What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Couple of vintage beauties, Jack! (Ironic that you claim not to name your knives, yet in the same breath, you name your foolery. ;) )

Thanks GT :) LOL! Well, my tomfoolery started long before the knives, and the knives go back to my earliest years ;) :D To utilise Cockney rhyming slang for a moment, there's certainly plenty of pocket tom (tomfoolery - jewellery) being shown today! ;) :D

Splendid pair again, Jack, distinctively displayed! The 2nd photo shows your Abbeydale jack as "guardian of the gate" into my idea of a Narnian entrance to heaven! ;)

Thanks again my friend, you are very generous. That photo is indeed taken atop a Yorkshire stile :D  Have a great weekend

sshakari Many thanks for your words. French knives often sport file-work and there's a long tradition of it - they do it very well too. I'll try and take other pictures of the Lag but it's difficult due to its shape and darkish colour. It has really nice thick Ebony scales that make it a delight in the hand. Despite being 11cm approx 4.3" it is not heavy as it's shadow-carrying no bolsters. The wood itself is an interesting shade, on first opening the package in the P.O. (yeah, couldn't wait ) I thought it was horn! It has a brown/grey hue about it and nice grain, not deep black but it will come with age. Hideously sharp:D Quite a tough pull which I like and a hard to close knife which I also approve of. Pin work on both sides so it's mark/mark. I just need some sauccisson de montagne to slice with it:)

GT Thanks be to you too. The spacers are entirely decorative, but they do look a bit like a gasket washer I suppose.:D The usual colour for an Ebony knife would be red, but I found the shade too bright for my taste so I ordered white, which I think looks good with black scales and polished liners. The liners themselves can also be decorated or chased if you want, but I left out that option. You can see another pic of it in Your Newest Addition thread, should you be interested.

Regards, Will

Damn that looks good!

Well, since this little guy showed up in my office mail this morning, I guess it's what I'm carrying today. Can't wait to get it home and on a stone though as the edge is blunt enough to bludgeon butter.

It was a Micarta day for me today. Just rec'd the Allegheny sheath for my fixed blade from Josh:)

Beautiful handles on that fixed blade, Paul. Great contrast of the materials.

Pocketing these two today :) Have a good Friday everyone

A couple of great looking knives that appear to be rather regular carrries for you nowadays, Jack. :)

I had a fairly similar dilemma, but my decision was made easier as this ebony single blade Sowbelly arrived yesterday!

Very nice looking Sowbelly, Mike. I think the Kindle Voyage cover classes up the photo. One of my favorite backgrounds, too.

That's a gorgeous TC, Rachel! Pretty flowers, too.

Dean, that’s a lovely pair; I don’t recall seeing that slender, tip-bolstered red stag knife before!

Thanks, GT! It's a Simmonds Hardware, Germany that I picked up at a local antique store earlier this year - well used with one of the tip bolsters missing on the obverse and the blades have lost some metal over the years. I really like it as it has a lot of character; made sometime between 1890 - 1940, probably the early 1900s.

An Ebony Talon was in my pocket today.

Working waaaay too many hours these past few days. Toting the Washington Jack in the watch pocket for this final leg of work.

I couldn't decide, even though one was brand new and one had only recently come out of box-prison. So I repeated one of yesterday's knives instead. :D

That's an awesome sowbelly, Mike!

These three have been with me since last night,

Not sure what I like more about that Chamblin whittler, the delightful Damascus or that stunning stag. Thanks for sharing!

he addiction is real. A week after my first GEC, the second one arrived.

Quite real and quite incurable. :D Nice 25!

Congrats on your commendable new cutlery, TB! I've been hanging out here for a couple of years, and still have so much to learn, even in terms of some "basics"; what is the name for the blade shape of your saddlehorn?

I believe the good Mr. Bose has referred to the secondary on the sowbelly as a skinner blade in an earlier thread. :)

That's a good-looking Buck!

This is why I stopped having knives shipped to work, unless I determined that timing would be better (say, for a small GEC one-off order) to get it during office hours -- either way, I don't generally open it and drop it in a pocket from there. Even the Opi #6 I ordered recently came a little bit on the dull side, which is a bit of a surprise for them. A little time on the grey Opi finishing stone fixed it right up, though. :D

Felt a little green today... Weird how you don't really get an idea of just how big the jumbo Congress is, even when put next to something as small as the #18. It's a big feller -- 5" dead on the nose.

Didn't seem so out of focus on the tiny phone screen, sorry. :o

Always enjoy seeing your Ohtas, Gary, and I'd forgotten that you had that fixed blade with the astonishing "face" in the handle!!:thumbup:

A couple of knives that were in my pockets last week and moved to kitchen duty this week: Opinel #6 and a Buck toothpick.

Thanks, Gary. I like that Buck Toothpick! What's the length on that one?

Thanks Dean, I like your choice for today :)

I'm off to visit the City of York later today (it's 12.35am here), carrying my Sheepsfoot TC :) Have a great weekend everyone

Long time, no see, Mike: welcome back!! :D Glad to see that even with a crazy workload, you made time to nab one of those Northwoods Zulus!
...
Congrats, Mike! Is the blade signed by whom I think it is??

- GT

Thank you, sir. I was anxiously waiting for the new Northwoods to drop, and didn't want to miss it.

The sowbelly is etched with the signature of who you're thinking of :) It's the 2016 Shot Show Case/Bose version. I have been curious about the single blade sowbellies, but never saw one that caught the eye... When I saw them in ebony, I couldn't resist. Much slimmer than the regular sowbelly, but feels really nice in the hand. Almost don't even miss the sheepfoot digging into the fingers ;)

I bet that Opinel made quick work of that pepper!

Thanks. Love the Voyage as a background. Yours looks well carried in your photos. Mine goes everywhere with me, and rides in the back pocket.
Talon was a nice choice today for you.

Yesterday and today. Burt Foster EDC and a SBG from Hiroaki Ohta.
