What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Is that one of those new ragg bone models? Lovely.

Trying this out this week, and am diggin it so far.

It's one of the old ragg bone models, Mike. Thank you for the compliment. I like to think it was made around 1905 but our good man Primble has a wonderful thread where you can read all about it here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...d-Company-History?highlight=new+york+knife+co.

Your carrying a fine knife today. Let us know how you like it once you've tried it out:thumbup::thumbup:

Nice indeed. Wonderful coloring on those handles. Not familiar with that makers mark / maker though.

I have been totin' this beautiful new to me #79 Workhorse in Ebony today. Just a wonderful pattern. I think it really speaks Old School to me. I guess that is why it feels so at home in hand and pocket! :D

Very classy, jrawk. I'm feeling like ebony today, too.

Very classy indeed! I just had to get out some ebony in solidarity:D

Very nice Gevo !!!!

All thanks go to the ghost....Mr. Primble. I should be out on the water with a tight line. Who's line was that...lol

Gary
Man o man...that Rough Rider canoe is just great! They just keep getting better and better.
...
Thank you my friend :) The Rodgers is actually a very recent acquisition

That's another great tranche of cutlery you showed GT, that model RR Canoe was my first Rough Rider and my first Canoe
...
Thanks, Gev and Jack. :) Rough Rider's gunstock checkered bone is a thing of beauty to me, but the canoe is the only knife I currently have in that handle material. Jack, thanks for setting me straight on the Rodgers buffalo lambsfoot; I just assumed it was one of your "old friends".

TK Cuban - copperhead jigged bone.
...
Goodness gracious, Ken, that is a stunning pen knife!:thumbup:

[EBONY]
OK, a lot of dark wood (mostly ebony?) with silver "trim" today, and it all looks SO distinguished. Why do I have only ONE dark wood knife (I think mine is old cocobolo rather than ebony)? Here are some of your knives that I admire greatly!:cool::thumbup:
...
This morning out on my constitutional.

...
I can see how that fine knife would help you constitute, Dean!
Very contemplative, Gev; a sure guide to Nirvana, I'll bet! ;)
You inspired me, with that fine example and pic, to go with my 15 that hasn't seen the pocket time it deserves lately.

Double Nirvana!
Nirvana in lambsfoot!
jrawk sees everyone's ebony, and raises an ebony Esquire!
Very classy, jrawk. I'm feeling like ebony today, too.

And Rachel calls! :eek::cool::thumbup::D

Oh man! I had just spent ages typing out individual replies to those who commented on my boker and to those who's pictures I thought should get special merit - I covered four pages and then skadooshed the whole lot! Gutted.
...
@GT - I find it odd that GEC is the only maker in my congress collection to put the main blades on the right hand pivot, how come nobody else does? As for opening knives, and after a bit of research, I think I'm more inclined to use the thumbnail of whichever hand is at the pivot end of the knife I'm opening when it comes out of my pocket.
...
Sorry about your frustration, Paul; even "restore auto-saved" gave you no relief? I often save my posts into a word processor as I compose them, just for a little extra peace of mind.
I admire your ambidextrous opening strategy! I have to use my left thumbnail for almost all of my opening. :(

...
Thanks, GT. I like that Joker, I really need to pick one up one of these days.
Thanks, FBC. :) That Joker is a big, but very pleasant, knife.

"
This week's picks
Case sodbuster jr cv
Schrade old timer 304t
Schrade walden 233
And a western 652
When I was a lad there was a rock group called Classics IV (big hit: "Spooky". Great song!). You have Four classics there, johnny!

There are so many things to like about that knife (and photo)!

Thank you my friends. I have missed everyone. The fishing has been terrific all season. The good part is I have purchased zero new knives and sold none. The bad part is I have bought more fishing tackle that I did not really need. :o:D
...
Thank you everyone ! Hope that I did not over look anyone. ( ohh - I did !!! It was GT - thank you sir and NO dinners on me !! :grumpy::D:D:D)
...
Sounds like you transitioned smoothly from knife knut to fishing fanatic!:D No dinners, not even fresh fish??

Gary - Thank you my friend. This Gem is one of three I was able to catch on the exchange last week. All are superb patterns and since they are previously loved, I won't have a second thought about dropping them in my pocket. Thank you for the Anniversary nod from yesterday. I didn't get time to post yesterday so I actually forgot. This is where I come to relax. I have been blessed to make so many wonderful friends here on The Porch.;)
You can say that again, Ron, and I totally agree!:thumbup:

Today, every yesterday since early December, tomorrow's todays:

I admire your commitment to that beauty, Sarah! (I also really like your Greek euro!)

OCD downright sucks sometimes.

I have my everpresent peanut. I also have my favorite pattern, my Case Tribal Spear. To top that off, I have my Case Lannys Clip. Let's toss another Case Bose in there, my coffin jack. Oh wait, we need some diversity, lets toss in my Tuna Valley scout. Oh, wait, here's my Wiseman barlow. My LaRock dogleg jack and LC are going to get a spa treatment. But wait, what about my Victorinox black alox Pioneer (need that up on the beach, fishing etc). Oh yeah, my Schatt and Morgan heritage stockman. To top it all off, my Queen zebrawood Mountain Man slipjoint found it's way to my truck.

Not all at once mind you. I'm going on vacation this Saturday. The dog will have to take what's left of the seat, next to the giant pile of knives.

Yes, I'm kidding, he's going to be holding onto some of the knives for me...
I'm not a medical doctor or psychiatrist; OCD stands for Over-Carry Disease?? ;)

That wood, that nickel, those punches, that winsome vintage New York Barlow - great to have you back on The Porch, Primble. OOPS, I mean, fetching foto, Gev! :D:D

...
This one for Walnut Wednesday.

Nice, Dean; I like the way you're specializing to a particular type of wood for Wednesday!

...
Today I went with another Grohmann and a Vic.
...
For those interested here's a group shot of my Grohmann folders.

Have a good one all!

Ken K.
Thanks for the group shot of your Grohmanns, Ken! It's great to see all those knives you featured lately showing up in a single photo!

Knives in my pockets this week (part 3). I think all I have left to show this week are these three (and my knives on kitchen duty this week - I'll save those for tomorrow or Friday).
A Case chestnut jigged bone CV Sodbuster Jr, shown with a matching swayback jack I posted Monday:
OOPS! Never mind; imgur is acting badly, and I can't see the usual view of 60 thumbnails per page to locate the image(s) I want, and I can't find anything trying to sift through full-size images, one at a time.

Great knives posted up today! So good to see you around Primble:eek::D I was totin' this new to me Gem today. :D

LOL! Inevitable! :D Thanks for the report Mr P, glad to hear you've had some tight lines :)

Thank you my friend

Carrying these two today :)

A fine combination Mr. Jack.:)

That knife belongs in the rabbit hole hall of fame. ;):D:D:D

Ron, that #79 is such a good looking knife! Crossing my fingers that GEC will do another run of those some day.

Nice shot of your #14, ms3902! I think the Antique Yellow #14's were the best looking knives out of that whole run.

Sticking with the Ebony theme of this thread lately, I've got this one in my pocket again today (older photo of it):

I tend to do most of my posting via tapatalk, as my desktop is beneath Rory's room and I don't want to disturb him (never wake a sleeping baby, cos it just ain't worth it!). Mobile phones can be pretty frustrating sometimes - especially when your internet speed is comparable to drying paint.

Loving the ebony WLST again mate!

Giving this another chance...

IMG_1532.jpg

Exquisite bone there Will, I'm sure it will win you over in the end ;)

Note the background: A few days ago a mate of mine dismantled an old pier that was at the bottom of his croft going into the sea. He offered me some of the timber - greenheart - some of which was rotten but a lot of it is true. This is the hardest and densest wood I have ever tried to cut (ruined a chainsaw blade) but it smells amazing when it burns. I had originally intended to keep it for the stove this coming winter but I might do something else if I can think of something.
