What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I took the kids hiking at Glacial Park today. I carried the Winchester Doctor Knife as a secondary, the kids were carrying their mini-trappers that Ken Daniels gave them a couple weeks back at a knife show.

Over 110 year old coined pen knife from Bastian Brothers Rochester NY. Click the link in blue, it's an interesting post on what led me to determine it was that old.

Started the day with another knife but once I learned of Bob Andrews passing I slipped this Bull Nose I purchased from Bob in my pocket.

Rest in peace Bob:thumbup:

This old WW2 era Camillus Radio Jack was gifted me sometime back by BigBiscuit. It's been modded with an EO notch and Cocobolo covers. Absolutely a great knife.

Here is a thread with a couple of charts to date the tang stamps of yours and Rey's IMPERIALS.
Both great looking knives!

Dennis

I was looking around after I picked up my first Imperial over the weekend. Got into a conversation with Phill and Ted about the possibility of instability of the celluloid, and how it can cause problems with other knives stored with them. Ted provided an interesting link talking about their chemistry and preservation. Here is the link Ted provided, a little long winded, but interesting.

Thanks for the links, Dennis! I always have to search for that Imperial tang stamp chart, but it sure is a useful resource! And I'd never seen that particular celluloid link; superior info!!

Yes, I've read a bit about celluloid out-gassing, and that's why this knife will be stored on an open shelf, not in a box with other knives. I tend to avoid cell, but this was such a pretty example, and very inexpensive.

+5K to everything Rachel wrote. I have all my celluloid knives spread out across the tops of the window frames in the front room of our house, hoping to reduce the chance of out-gassing and hoping to minimize collateral damage if out-gassing does occur!

I am sporting my new mammoth covered folder by Glenn today!
Holy Cow, Ernie that's a delectable knife!! For some reason, I thought "Chocolate Milkshake" as soon as I saw it. :o

From an incredibly good friend.

That redbone Case is quite memorable, Bob!! Congrats!:thumbup:

The vet was happy that nothing serious has gone wrong. To use the precise Vetinary terminology of the Cumbrian vet "he's boshed 'is knee a bit". An anti inflammatory jag and no tennis ball chasing for a few days. A load off my mind. Phew!
Glad to hear that the diagnosis was nothing really serious, Paul. One of our poor little dogs had to have an eye removed and the lid sewn shut a couple of weeks ago! Doesn't seem to bother the dog nearly as much as it upset my wife and me. I have to just try to think of that dog as always winking at me now. :o

Been trying to post in this thread ALL DAY! :grumpy: Sorry for 'going all GT'! :o ;) :D
...
I'm still recovering! :D That is a great line-up this week my friend
...
I've had these two with me today :)

"Going all GT" :D:D Took me a lot of time and effort to build that reputation, but I imagine I'll lose it pretty quickly as I try to be more sparing with my BF time. :( Thanks for your remarks about my rotation this week. :)
Jack, you've been acquiring some fabulous knives lately.:cool: I may have to re-rank my favorites of yours!!

Randy, that Radio Jack came from the factory with the EO notch. It also originally had a bail on it, but I decided to leave that off when it was re covered. ;)

Magnifique, Harry! Very nice carving:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Thank you for the compliment on my picture. They were gifts that I cherish from the illustrious Jack Black on my last Birthday. Was it my last one..

I get to handle all the pieces each day and marvel at what his table must hold:D:D:D Thanks Jack:cool::cool:

Thanks GT, it's a very photogenic knife, so many different planes for light to reflect off of and the relief cast dramatic shadows that are constantly changin' dependin' on the angle and diffusion of the light source. It's like them Chestnut Brown Bone Sodbuster JRs, they just play with the light and I don't think I've ever seen one take a bad picture. ;)

Bob's SFO. I tried to get him to call it the coal miner. I'm a bit partial you know.....He called it "The Working Man's Sunday Go to Meetin Knife".

Here is an except from a personal email about it:

Okay Josh, You've got three! They turned out just as I had them pictured in my head. I think they look great! The Reservations are rolling in too!* "The Working Man's Sunday Go to Meetin Knife!"*
Thanks,
Bob

Good name, good friend good ambassador for GEC.

The other knife was made for me to honor my family's heritage, my time in the mines and memorialize fellow miners that perished underground. Mine has meaning, Bob's had beauty and style. They are quite a pair.

It was a fantastic day, Brett. Thanks for the kind words. Your beautiful picture of your carry with your daughter's carry inspired me to include my children's knives in the picture.

Every time my kids see a member of the Daniels family they walk away with a new knife. They call it their Kiddo Knife Club. They've each gotten those mini-trappers, a full sized trapper, and a fixed blade. My son also has a peanut and my daughter a doctor's knife. I'm amazed at how many knives Queen has gifted my children. It's the highlight of each knife show we go to. They're even in the Queen catalog this year in a picture they took with Courtney Daniels after she gave them the peanut and doctor's knife.

I was told that at this last knife show there was a fellow who spent some time in the Queen booth with his son, but decided not to buy anything. Before he left he went back into the Queen booth and asked to buy a knife. Ken asked him why he changed his mind, and he told Ken that after he had left the booth he realized that his son had a knife. When he asked his son about it, the son said that the man in the Queen booth had given him the knife. He came back to buy a knife to show his appreciation. Ken refused to sell the man a knife, saying that he hadn't given the boy the knife as a marketing gimmick. He just enjoys gifting knives to kids.

I am constantly amazed at the knife community and it's generosity.

From an incredibly good friend.

Thank you all for the nice comments on my old Case Redbone. The beauty of the knife is only exceeded by the beauty of a special friendship that brought it my way. :D

Thanks buddy :D ;)
