What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Loving my recently acquired GEC 18 Beagle. Was playing with it in the lobby of my office building yesterday while waiting for some colleagues to go grab lunch. Dropped it about three feet onto tile. The result is the ding in the photo (the white, shiny part on the top of the bolster; shiny because it's reflecting the light above me).

There was a time this would have driven my crazy. Now when I see it, I'll think about my current life situation. I just started work again a few months back, my first full-time position after being a stay-at-home dad for four years. During the search process, I was hoping for something outside of the lab - I was a scientific research technician (check), for something where I could make a more direct impact in public health (check), for something where I could really grow professionally (check). The cherry on top is that my new co-workers - the ones I went out to eat with - are not just great at what they do, but are fantastic people. I'm blessed - thanks for letting me share.

Oh, and I won't be playing with the knife over tile or concrete/asphalt now! Although, I think I will go ahead and toss it in my pockets with keys/coins now - I'm guessing it will survive.

Does that one have an end bolster, or is it bare-headed? Consider yourself lucky it didn't fall in a way that cracked the covers, now it's got character!

My forum knife is getting a little character/patina.

As usual well done everyone!!

Thanks for the comments Gary and Will.

I went to the market today and picked up, among others, these two little beauties which I carried today.

A Schrade 807UH and a kinda cool CIL knife which is marked made in Sheffield.

I'm off to the deer camp tomorrow for a week of hunting so I won't post for a bit.

Have a great day all!!

End bolster, thankfully. The stag looks fine (was the first thing i checked). Because of the little ding, I feel like it's uniquely mine now.

Sure is, and looking good too.

Ted! Great pics and congrats on that forum knife...the color is excellent!

My new EDC showed up a little unexpected! 3.5" closed, 154CM steel, dark jigged bone with a "modified" blade setup (wharncliffe instead of the sheepsfoot).

Thanks Reese!!!

OK Jake, that's STUNNING:cool::cool::thumbup:

Very nice Bob:thumbup:

Another day with the Presidential.

Love that Presidential Dean:cool:

This one is a Winchester black box / Queen. I always like seeing your posts of that 804.

Thanks GT. I really really like it! It will be in my pocket again today.

Have a great weekend y'all!

Great knife Kevin:cool:

This fine little gem found it's way into my mailbox yesterday. It is such a great pattern.... a split back serpentine whittler, I guess.

Knew that was a Winchester black box as soon as I saw the jigging, and then the shield. A terrific knife. I had another pattern in the series, but found the pull too stiff for my tastes.

Ran a half-marathon today. This Osage Orange Coyote was with me later in the day.

Congratulations on the half, Travman! I hope to run one some day, too.

Really nice handles on your coyote. I like how the natural curve of the grain seems to mirror that of the body of the knife.

I've carried my Forum Knife for the past two days and have been enjoying it. Its final duty for tonight was cutting lime wedges to serve with posole:

Carrying the 82 Dixie stockman today.

Fine example!:thumbup:It's my favourite Stock type of knife: long, but carries with ease, low riding blades and a very interesting assortment- Turkish Clip, Wharncliffe and Drop Point. Some people might object to this as deviating from some perceived dogma of what 'Traditional' Stock knives should have...but not me, all credit to GEC for producing a graceful and practical interpretation.

I have one of these in Blackwood but would welcome the 'right' kind of Stag or Osage Orange  (Tidioute) as a user if I come across one.

Regards,

Will
