Hi Kris, I don't know if there's a name for that Damascus style, but I nominate kaleidoscope. It must be very difficult to accomplish.

Alan, it is a mosaic, course(low layer) W pattern. The pattern is created in the center of the billet and then brought to the surface through a very clever trick. The W pattern has many variations and a modified W pattern is very popular with damascus forgers.

1940s Graef & Schmidt smooth bone Jack. This was a rescue knife. It was used to open paint cans and mix the paint, it was sealed shut with dried paint. When I finally got it open the primary blade had a couple of dime size scallops chipped from the edge where he opened the lid on the paint can. Finally after all that abuse he put it away wet with paint and in the box it went for 50 years. When I finally got it open I reworked the blade and began cleaning the paint off the scales. It took a couple of days to save it but it was worth it. The blades still walk and talk and the bone is just beautiful with all its patina and warmth. Glad I saved it instead of tossing it, I saw something in it worth savin'. :)

Well worth saving, Ted! Nice job on cleaning that one up. These old knives are more appealing to me than a new shinny knife. I blame that on you and Gevo.:D

I lost this little fella two and a half years ago. I thought I dropped it outside and thought it was gone. Found it in the slit of my truck seat where the buckle is mounted. I was like a school child on Christmas morning when I found it. Makes a fantastic whittler!!!!

Always like seeing that Promethean Hunter...didn't Salem call this pattern, probably tongue in cheek, "firecracker damascus"? It is really great looking.

Have the Remington R4 with me today.

Jeff, when I saw that Hen & Rooster I thought, "wait until Jeff sees this". :D It really caught my attention as well. Very nice Stag and I love the shape of that sheepsfoot.
