What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Yowza, Dee!!!:eek::thumbup: Was that hard to find? I'd heard rumors of a Ruple sowbelly last year (I think), but I don't recall actually seeing one, even in photos.

Jack's mention of Old Friends Friday kind of fits with my knives for this week I haven't posted yet, since a couple of them are knives I carry every day and consider "old friends" (although they're definitely NOT seldom carried, which I think was Jack's original intent/defition of knives appropriate for the "Old Friends Friday" thread).

Case chestnut jigged bone CV Sodbuster Jr (thanks for the SBJ, Bob, and thanks for the "signage", Dave):

And this LF&C penknife is one of my oldest knives (may be THE oldest knife I own - I should try to settle that question):

Thanks Gary!
PM sent. :)

You and your friends have great taste.

Fightin rooster again today. That's 4 days in a row now. Maybe a record for me! But it won't be with me tomorrow.

Sitting in my recliner enjoying a quiet house while my wife took my girl and stepson to find me a birthday present. Full as a tick on biscuits and sausage white gravy with hash browns that's she made me for breakfast. Just waiting on hamburgers she's buying me for lunch. I think I'll keep her awhile. Hehe

Nice knife. It sounds like the wife's a keeper too.[emoji2]

Very nice! Is today your birthday? If so happy birthday!

Daniel.

It is. But funny as you get older it means less. All I wanted today was to enjoy a day with my wife and kids. And I'm loving it. Thanks!

Thanks a lot GT! :D  I never tire of seeing this one :)
...
Thanks for the compliment on my Euler's Identity knife, Jack. :)

Thanks Gary, Your Case Sodbuster ages so well:cool: Enjoy your weekend:thumbup:
Thanks, Paul. I wish I aged as well as most of my knives!

...
Orchard Gem.

Classy knife, Dean!

...
I carried these two today. A TC Barlow and a Vic Cadet II.

Have a great day all!

Ken K.
Notable pair as usual, Ken!

A shortened drop point will suit that handle well. I look forward to seeing it.

I've still got these two with me. The Boker and I are getting along now that my thumb is healing. :D
Rachel, your black/white combo and the story of the "Böker bite" remind me of that old joke, "What's black and white and red all over?" (Original joke has "read" instead of "red", I guess.)
My Opinel mod happened last summer, and I posted the final result earlier this week, so you could actually look backward to see it. :D I'll save you the trouble though, and repost here:

I went with some bling today, a large (Case #75 size) stockman from Rough Rider in brown sawcut bone with worked bolsters.

Jeff, you are King of the Big Stockman! That sawcut bone RR is cool!

"On the shores of Gitche Gumee, Of the shining Big-Sea-Water......"

Another inspired photo, Ken, and I really admire your amber bone Case canoe! I have that model on my "wish list" at at least 4 dealers, I think, but just haven't closed the deal yet.:o

Gary, that Mam is stock. It's got a bit of up and down blade play so I may try the model without the liner lock. It makes a good kitchen knife and rides in the pocket nicely. It's major problem is that it competes with Opinel.
Thanks for the follow-up, Alan. In your photo, the handle finish just looks more "refined" than on my MAMs. I have a sheepsfoot in the friction folder set-up, and a larger drop point with liner lock, and I'm pleased with both. It certainly does have a problem in its competition with Opinel, but in my "collection scheme" it has a major advantage in being from a different country than Opinel.

In December I had convinced my dad to buy a Victorinox tinker as a good work knife, and he loved it so much that he bought his brother one for Christmas, and I guess he must have really really loved it because he ended up buying one for me 😁 I received it just now and immediately put my suspension clip on it and put it into my pocket.

Now I think I may have inadvertently started a knife tradition for the Snyder men ( my grandpa probably started the Victorinox tradition with his love of the classic though )

I really love my Victorinox recruit for its size and everything, but the tinker is only a bit bigger and adds the phillips driver and awl so I'll probably love it just as much.
Congrats on your new Tinker, H&S! I think that's a pretty accurate analysis you did. I like Recruits a lot, but the Tinker adds those very useful back-side tools.

The Barlow of Barlows! IMHO [emoji6]GEC Soupbone TC Barlow. Henstooth!

Memorable knife, Todd!:thumbup: (And being artistically challenged, I enjoy seeing it in an unfiltered photo. ;))

Thanks Gary!

Thanks for the kind words for old me and my old friends. And thanks for the informative PM.

Have a good Saturday everyone! Natural Stag TK this morning. :D

Those are a couple of very striking knives, Ron! Wow!:thumbup:

Croisdale and my Sheepsfoot TC today :) Have a great weekend everyone

Nicely matched handle material in your carries, Jack!

Have a superlative birthday, SVTFreak!:p Does the fact that you won't carry the FR tomorrow mean you expect a sharp present today?? Looking forward to seeing what you get!

Here are a couple of knives that I carried all of last week and they moved to kitchen duty this week: Cold Steel Kudu and A. Wright & Son stag senator.

5K Qs - that Victorinox is bone. It was made by a 14 year old boy that is clearly one heck of a knife artist. I have had the case Cane for years. Still looks clean as a whistle.

5K, nope. Tomorrow the FR gets a break strictly because it's Sunday. Sunday is my ivory Davison wedding knife for church. Then it's the baby shower for my wife and coming boy. So I'll be carrying his 48 improved trapper that is already designated to go to him. I'll post pics!
