What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Vintage Friday

Fintage Friday? :D

I've had my own IXL along again recently, bringing me back to All The Things In the Bowl:

... except I seem to have misplaced my (main) Jeep key, which is all the more aggravating because that's the point of the bowl! :grumpy: I hope to find it over the week end, not least because of the blue Classic attached thereon....

The Esquire this afternoon, as we look forward to a downright balmy week end:

I'm moping around the house today after having a couple of stubborn wisdom teeth ripped from my head. Gives me time to play with my fixed blades, though! Including my new-to-me Fiddleback Forge Minimuk! (Thanks Panthera tigris!)

Your "3 Little Pigs" are fantastic, Dee! They've got this big bad wolf huffing and puffing! ;)

My Canoe of the Week is a cracked ice Chinese Imperial (and yes, I posted a matching mini canoe earlier this week if you've been keeping score ):

My Big Knife of the Week is an Imperial USA clip/pen toothpick (thanks, Dave). Wish I could find another one or two of these old guys!

Touché my friend. :D

Ice + Lemonade = Tasty Beverage . It also makes a Tasteful Carry .

Thanks Alan! You always know what to say to get the party started. :D

Tomayto, Tomahto. :D

That's one expensive bowl of soup.

Great knives, everyone!

I've been carrying my #73 lately, trying to earn it some patina. I've filed down the spey a bit to make it less pronounced. Not the best job or the biggest mod, but I guess not too bad for something that was done with a regular fingernail file ... :D

This knife reminds me of a strong, refined matriarch. Today we attend mass for my wife's grandmother of 97 years. This knife reminds me of our "Bubba".

Gary, I was trying to recall the words to that song but I guess I'm past the age of remembrance. As far as the humpback stockman, it's one of the knives I can't see myself ever giving up. The F&F and the W&T are amazing, sunken joints, and great blade selection make it a true winner.
Alan, I have a Case humpback stockman, too, and I agree with your assessment! I'm a fan of spearpoint blades, so a stockman with a spear main really gets my attention.

Friedrich Hartkopf. Did a fool thing to sell this, but I managed to trade it back! :D
Congrats on getting that fabulous Hartkopf back, A.L.; you must feel happy and lucky!;)

...
The Tackler is one such knife I only learned about recently. There's some interesting information on this lesser known Sheffield pattern in this thread for any of you straight edge enthusiasts.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1468885-Sheffield-made-Tackler-knives

Terrific Tackler, Chin! That photo really shows off the grain in the handle.

LOL! :D Sorry GT :o Not your gibberish my friend, just gibberish in general! :D You should hear me ranting about the Sheffield manufacturers inability to correctly name their patterns (the 'Senator' which is a Lambsfoot rather than a Penknife, or the short-bolstered 'Barlow' for example)! Pattern designations can sometimes be debatable, but the classic old patterns deserve to be properly described here, otherwise newer members will be misled. The Wharncliffe Knife should be one of the most recognisable of traditional knife patterns

Carrying my Arthur Wright Lambsfoot with ebony covers today :) Have a great Friday, and an even better weekend everyone, and please excuse my bitter rantings! ;)

Good point, Jack; almost everything I know about pocket knives I learned here on The Porch, and that probably includes some misinformation. I don't find your rants to be bitter (although "twisted" is another story :D). Your ebony lambsfoot is classic!

...
Frequently carried and so again today:
a flashlight to see,
a magnifier to see better
and a knife to cut.

Speaking of ebony classics, your black wood spear TC is definitely a Timeless Classic! I usually claim that the only TC Barlow in which I'm interested is a clip/pen antique amber sawcut, but your ebony spear TC inspires second thoughts on my part.

That Ganzo was my gateway to traditional folders. I picked it up last year on a lark, more or less, but it fired my interest to learn more in a way my 20-year-old Swiss Army Climber never did. Got my first GEC yesterday, a maroon Beer Scout, with more on the way. But the Ganzo still has a leg up because it has so often proved such a useful tool.
Congrats on your new Beer Scout, Taike! I have the Ganzo stockman whose photo you posted, and a Buck 303 and 373; they seem to be almost identical knives.

Great photo! I'd like to see more pics that feature secondary blades.

I rescued this Challenge Cutlery sleeveboard from a junk box at an antique shop!
Wow, beautiful rescue, Ernie.

Nice knives and pics, everyone!
I've posted this one in a few threads. I have to put it here too, since it is in my pocket today.

Superb Lloyd shadow stag, Gary!!

Repaired the peanut last night, back in the pocket today.

Looks good as new to me, rishma! I saw in another thread that you're suddenly going through some tough times; hope you get everything moving the right direction again ASAP.

...
After carrying my Yellow Rose #74 for more than a week and switched it up to a neglected knife in my collection. Crosscut mammoth Northwoods Willamette Whittler.

Holy Hand Grenade, Erik!! That's drop-dead gorgeous!

...
it was a Northwoods Fremont and a Vic Apprentice today.

Just a little snow on the back deck.

Have a great day!

Ken K.
Tremendous twosome, Ken! Your deck photo is such a contrast to my backyard, which is unbelievably snow-free for mid-February with temps far above normal (50+ F) for the next week.

Splendid knife and photo, Jeff!

I'm off out for another hike early-doors tomorrow. Taking these two out for the day :) Have a great weekend everyone

Exceptional knives, Jack! Hope you enjoyed your hike. (Would my intentions have been misinterpreted had I written, "Take a hike, Jack!" or "Hit the road, Jack!"??:D;))

Sometimes I just can't decide. That's when I carry both.
...
That's the spirit, Todd!! :D

Thanks, Dee. :)

As always, these were with me this week (and every week).

My better half is off to the mall and I'm sitting down to tune up the edge on my Lloyd trapper. Life is good!
Going to be 50 degrees today. I'm off to the trails as soon as possible.

Always like the Sodbuster picture Gary:cool: Your line up is complete:thumbup:

Today's forecast says rainy with a chance of whittling.

Great picture and knife Greg:thumbup:

This dynamic duo for the weekend. Bought the #15 HJ from Bob a couple of years back, such a great knife, thanks Bob;)

Like that knife a lot! I almost picked one up the other day.

Thanks. I really like it. It's a fantastic knife for hunting. I used it for processing some sheep and goats. It was a present from my in laws.

Thank you, Gary. I am inspired with your sodbuster and the excellent photo you took of it (one of my favorite photos that you post)!

What a beautiful pair, Paul! Amazing color match and both fine examples of their breed.

I'm carrying the ebony again today.

Nothing beats the real thing but this ivory kirinite looks nice and classy. Nothing like the gaudy nature of most kirinite that gets put on knives.
