What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I want to say those marbles were called agates or "aggies" but I could be mistaken. I always liked the clear ones with color swirls inside.

I think they might have been called that here too r8shell. The clear ones with the swirl were the standard 'mabs' here, and the other small ones were collectively 'fancies', and worth 3 'mabs' I think. The top 'marble' was worth 20 'mabs', and was actually a steel ball, known as a 'ball-baarrion'. My dad worked in a factory, which among other things, produced ball-bearings, and I would ask him to get me me a few. THe first time, he brought home one of the actual ball-bearings, because that was what I had asked for (as opposed to the steel balls which make up a ball-bearing)! :rolleyes ;)

Very nice pics on both knives. I always find those navy knives interesting![emoji1303]

Thanks Daniel :) You've probably already seen it, but if not, there's a good thread about them here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ve-for-the-Navy-Knife?p=16953705#post16953705

Thanks, Jack!

I had this Evergreen TC Barlow with me on the trail today.

Nice pic Dean, and a reminder of another nice knife I should carry more :o ;)

A fine new addition Harry

I do not have one coming every week but I did pick up an old Western folder today , a new 13 is in the mail , a Lambsfoot should be shipping any day now , and another 13 Stag is a possibility plus in late March there is a Blade show close to me . I really don't need a dealer to do an SFO or Gec to come out with another model anytime soon .

Look forward to seeing your Lambsfoot my friend (and the rest of course ;) ) :)

Single clip #15 in my pocket today. We spent the morning at the zoo (Ellie's first time), but I neglected to get a knife photo with the lions or monkeys.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, and that you have a fantastic Sunday :)

Watchpocket Barlow and HJ9 for me today

Thanks, Gary.

Thanks for the marble info, Rachel and Jack. I suspect there's regional variation among marble names. We called some type(s) of marbles "aggies" but I don't think they were the type of marble Rachel referred to. I think we called "the clear ones with the color swirls inside" "cat's eyes", not "mabs"; they were very common in my neck of the woods, and as Jack mentioned, not highly valued.

All so great, each of you! 🤙 I just keep carrying the same two every day. I need more imagination I guess? [emoji6]
Alan, I admire the members who are committed to the same knife or two almost every day!

THanks GT :D  Great pic of your Sodbuster

Thanks, Jack. Your daily double have charismatic covers!

Still toting the Boker stockman around for now. I think this one may have a home in the pocket for a while.
That's a captivating double-shield Böker, freekboi! I can understand how it could take over your pocket.

Bradford Guardian 3 and an AG Russel premium scout.

Nice the see the AGR premium scout again, Tom!

Thanks, Gary! The Case Scout is 3 3/8 inches closed and it is the smallest scout I've got - perfect for watch pocket carry. Your kitchen duty knives are good looking; do they still look that pristine?

I had this Evergreen TC Barlow with me on the trail today.

Thanks for the scout jr info, Dean. The stainless steel sodbuster jr. still looks quite pristine. The Imperial toothpick looks the same as in the photo, but it's really far from pristine with its heavy patina. Your Barlow looks like one of the first signs of spring out on the trail!

Terrific knives everyone!

Thanks for the comment Gary. The Pocket Pal is smooth alox.

Very nice Fremont thefrank.

Today I carried a Grohmann in stag and a Vic Spartan.

Have a good one!

Ken K.
Thanks for the Pocket Pal info, Ken. I have several Pocket Pals, but they're all red celidor. Choice stag on your Grohmann!

Added this to my pockets today : Case XX 5279

Equal End and single spring in Stag .

Harry
Wow, Harry, that Case stag pen is a centerfold knife!!:thumbup:

First carry of the denim micarta.

Congrats! That's a commendable choice!

My first stockman. I'm enjoying it.
That's a classic, rishma; congrats!

A big Thank You to 10fingers for this awesome Winchester!

Catchy pic, Barrett! In what sense is that beer like Sputnik?? How is the beer? I've had some scotch ales that I found commendable.

A pair of cheery Sunday champions, Jack!

I went to a gun and knife show yesterday, and hoped to show off some bargains from the show today. But I saw nothing that I wanted to buy, which is unusual. So I'll just repost a couple of knives that I carry every day. The Minichamp actually came from a previous gun&knife show excursion. The Rough Rider stockman came from r8shell!

'Cat's Eyes' is a good name GT (like the road safety device) :) I wish I could remember all the rules to the game we played on grates in the street and school yard, but it's 50 years ago now! :D

Thanks pal, I never tire of seeing your special Stockman :)

Aggies were originally made of agate. Their weight made them formidable shooters.
We called the oversized marbles "boulders". These are giant boulders my dad brought back from Colorado, some conference he used to go to.
And my new fish-tail.

I enjoy seeing it too, GT. Please let me know if the skrim starts to wear or fade. You are the beta tester of the EDCability of my India Ink/wax technique. ;)

I confess that I didn't really play marbles much, I just liked to collect pretty ones. We used to play jacks (the game with the ball and spiky things) and I was a champ at pick-up-sticks. :) I think those were more popular girl's games back then vs. marbles.

I've taken to carrying my MJ fixed blade on the weekends:

Plus this sturdy beauty today:

Try to imagine both with some patina, as I'm too lazy to try to take a new picture today. :D

GT and Jack Black : Thank you very much for the kind remarks on my Case Pen Knife . My Wife bought it for me about 8 years ago , I had never carried it before . It is a 1940 to 1964 vintage one .

Decided to switch things up today and carry this C.Tenney Trading Co half whittler with desert ironwood burl handles as my Sunday go to meeting knife.

Super cool knife and terrific cat's eyes :D

My marble memory has faded some over the years. I do recall the "cat's eyes" and "steelies".

I really like seeing what you folks carry everyday. I comment when I have the time and I appreciate every post in this thread.

I've pretty much been carrying these two exclusively now for a few weeks. I find the combination of blades they offer me pretty much meets my daily needs.

The Wharnie is CPM-S35VN at 60-61HRC which I sharpened up a bit with no problem. It cuts like crazy and the sturdy wide blade makes it perfect for tough duty and it slices well too. I like the steel a lot. The Cocobolo is some pretty nice wood and the the sheath is something a little different then what you see everyday. A nice package in my estimation.

The Lloyd Trapper, with some awesome (my favorite handle material by far) stag and CPM-154 hasn't seen a lot of use yet, but has done what little I've asked of it so far. I put a new hair popping edge on it that I should be able to maintain with a leather hone. John's knives are really well made and the fact that they're a bargain for a custom knife makes it easier for me to carry and use this one.

A "bucket shot" from this morning. I'm afraid you'll see the same knives for awhile...

Gary
That Lloyd is a pleasure to see any time and it's only going to get better with age :D

The clearie shooter won the lag and this one is for keepsies ;) Its Ringer...so get your ducks in a row
