Nice one, Atiger! My dad has always been called "Dutch" instead of his given name (George); I'll have to be on the lookout for something like that for him.Old York barlow - never wild about one-arm blades but I like the caramel-colored bone handles.

You are correct sir, they are plastic .... errrrrr I mean French Ivory. I love the Euler's Identity knife, although most of the math is lost on me
...
Quite a change from the black and blue to the cream and zebra! Thanks for the Euler's Identity props, Tom.
Cool shot of that venerable I*XL Barlow, Dean!
Sorry to hear about your coffee cup. You never know what formulas might come up at lunchtime; my daughter once sent me photos from a Spanish bar of the napkins on which she'd been explaining the quadratic formula to a friend!! And I think r8shell's scrimshaw skills deserve MUCH more respect than my intellect!Yes, Gary, the cold meds are having an effect on me. For one, I've been super clumsy the last few days and even dropped and shattered my favorite coffee cup!
It's always good to see your special RR stockman. I carry that photo on my phone to show friends in case Euler's Identity comes up at lunchtime. Seriously, I looked that up on Wikipedia - I have even more respect for your intellect now!

That Shapleigh is premium, liamstrain!Mid 1940s? Shapleigh HDW Diamond Edge Barlow, and GEC beagle today.

I hope you shake off the flu soon, Rachel. Thanks for confirming that you could see what I was talking about; I was starting to think what I thought I saw was just another cataract symptom. (I like the simple but effective optical illusion you posted.)Whoa! I see what you mean, Gary. I've been fighting the flu all week, and now I'm having M.C. Escher fever-dreams looking at that knife.

Thanks for the info, Gev. I was trying to imagine what it used to be - maybe simply a piece of a hot tin roof!...
Gary
Just an old piece of metal I found in the back yard while renovation
Fantastic Euro-stag on that LionSteel, Alan!Lion Steel Opera lockback that I just received from Brett. Lotsa nice knives out there.

Hey old timer. Allow me to interject........that's a #15. Not a 77. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.![]()
![]()
I know. I wasted mine away years ago. :foot:
Nice pair buddy.![]()
Thanks Bob I didn't even know Case made a #15![]()
That's okay. I didn't know GEC made a backpocket as well.![]()
![]()
Yea Bob GEC did make one but they only made them I year that was 1974 a GEC 6 dot. That's the same year they made a 110 in Hen's Tooth Ivory And I'm luck enough to have two of them I'll send you one.![]()
Bob & Randy, I hope you're enjoying yourselves! :grumpy: I'm innocently trying to learn from masters like you as I usually do, with no idea that you're spreading misinformation as you yank each other's chains!Very rare. In fact, almost as rare as.........well, you know.![]()

Quality quartet, Ken! Looks like the red/black string is over, but the pair of Aces of Spades is eye-catching!...
I carried these two yesterday.
![]()
And these two today.
![]()
Have a great evening everyone!
Ken K.
Thanks for the follow-up, Jack. Your familiar pair today (whatever day it was) is practically perfect!...
Thanks a lot, I think that was one of my very first pics of that knife, and possibly my first in that styleTaken at a place called Jackdaw Crag, with the River Wharfe below
Nice to see your Otter, I was sharpening my Webermesser just the other day
...
Hope everyone has a good Friday, and an even better weekend. Back with the 'old firm' today![]()

Irresistible White Owl, Will!Treating the stainless White Owl to an outing today. I think it's a pity GEC is so parsimonious with their stainless releases though.

Thanks for the Car on the Ice (or car in the water) update, Harry. Your stag 73 certainly is a knife to be proud of!
Phantastic photo, Buzz!
That's a debonair dark duo, Gev!A New York State of Mind

Holly Grail, Jeff!!
Thanks, Dee. Sometime I'll have to send you a knife riddle I made up for an old thread about a year ago; it was kind of wordsmithish....
The wordsmith is at it again!
You can't be stopped, Gary.![]()
...
Stunning chestnut bone SBJr, Paul Thomas! This is what I had today. One for the dirty work, one to have razor sharp just in case.
![]()
You have some classic pocket knives, Joe!![]()
I finally got the main blade to cut paper 95-98% cleanly.
...
Heritage knives are always cool, but heritage stones might be even cooler, W.M.B.!I just touched up the edge on my Mercator with a stone that belonged to my wife's grandfather. I think it must have belonged to his father before him, I'm not sure how far back it might go. The box appears to be rosewood, and is carved to fit the tapered stones top and bottom.![]()
...
You won't regret getting one!A Kat is still on my list!
That is one gorgeous knife, Dean! Well photographed
Thanks! I was really pleased with how close the yellows were.
I really like the patina on that sheepsfoot Barlow of yours. A handsome blade indeed.
Cool shot of that venerable I*XL Barlow, Dean!

Here it is Saturday night, and I'm responding to posts from at least 24 hours ago, I think. My life is too rich and full!
Here are some knives I've been using in the kitchen all week:

Thanks guys! I have to make sure to come around here at least once a day again! I have been around the internet (my watch interest has taken the forefront of my time) and swung back to the Porch to conclude: this really is the best place on the internet with certainly the nicest people!
Great-looking fixed-blade, one I've admired before, but it looks even better in your pic
This inexpensive Case arrived this week. Not the best F&F but it is one of the sharpest out-of-the-box knives I've had lately
![]()
NICE stag guys
Thanks for the follow-up, Jack. Your familiar pair today (whatever day it was) is practically perfect!
Thanks! I'm usually not much of a fixed blade guy but I really love this one. Looking forward to times when I have more use for it!
Hooahhh!
Are you going all Al Pacino on me...lol:thumbup:
Thank You
Nice Puma! Is that the 255? I've got one marked 39382 on the pile side lock lever. I carried it for years. It always had a little vertical play but not enough to bother me.
