What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Disappointed as my Irish are out of the dance but they lost to a great team, congrats Mountaineers.

Carrying not only my favorite GEC but my all time favorite knife period.

Jack Black : I do not recall seeing those before my friend . Really like the Smith Barlow .
Are they still doing excavations inside the Yorkshire Digs ??? It has been over 25 years since we were down into it . Amazing things to see .

Thanks Harry, they are, Star Carr is perhaps the longest running dig. Maybe we're all descended from Yorshiremen! :D

Nice Jack. Looks like the misters are getting along?

Thanks my friend :) First time I've paired these two, but they seem to be getting on OK ;)

Great stuff! :)

Thanks pal :)

Thanks, Jack. Nice carries today! I really want to add a Ray Smith Barlow to my accumulation one day. I've admired his work for awhile now. He's about 80 miles from me. Maybe I could pick it up!

Thanks Gary, Mr Smith certainly makes a very nice knife :)

Yet another great pairing Tom

That's a nice watch, as well as a nice Barlow Paul

Excellent picture! Love the angle, it catches the depth of the jigging.

Thanks glennbad. The top knife is a 14 lick creek. But I think it looks at home along side the 15s.

Paul. Another beautiful photograph. Yes, in terms of climbing the mountain for a two bladed barlow, I think you've reached the summit.

Cool Cat GT

Hope everyone has a great weekend :) I have these two trousered today ;)

Your comment is making that Black Cat purr, Jack. :D That's quite an impressive rural vista behind that impressive pair of knives in your photo!

Nice green everyone!

GT - the lock back Canoe from a day or 2 ago is really cool , never seen one like that.

I am carrying Irish colors today but it is hard to tell on my #42. It is green micarta but I am struggling to capture it (must be camera shy).

I agree with Tom completely; the green groundswell Friday was astounding!
Thanks for the approval of that Rough Rider dogleg lockback mini canoe, Tom. RR has a little series of knives that are dog-related in one way or another - I think they all at least have a dogbone shield.
Eye-catching orange Alox! Pioneer?

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I've been waiting on this knife for some time. Thanks to the KSF crew and GEC!
Welcome back, HST, and congrats on the new Northwoods! IIRC, that's not your first champion Northwoods by any means!

Found it right about where I figured. But it was nearly buried in the dirt.

Interesting mod on the nail file of your Cadet, Joe. Was that done with a specific purpose in mind?

...
She won't see much action though. Sitting here with frozen peas on my boys after the big V cut today. Gonna be a long weekend. I hate sitting around. Time to sharpen knives I guess.
Yikes! Do sharper knives reduce the amount of time frozen peas must be applied?? ;)

Time to change out what I am carrying and go out to eat some Corned Beef & Cabbage . Will carry what just came in the mail . Two # 13 Whips
...
Harry
Going with the newest of the new today.
Ea5NZTT.jpg
Harry and Alan, congratulations on the outstanding new stag Whips! Your pics remind me of an old Hollies song, "Long Cool Woman in a Stag Dress". ;)

The knives aren't green, but the background is. :) Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Belated Happy SPD to you too, r8shell. That's a grand pairing; I didn't realize just how white the covers of your Keen Kutter are until seeing it next to that Forum Congress Jack!

Got to wear the Sunday best today for a family party, so I'll be carry this light and slim antique.

That's a VERY appealing knife, Stan! Will you tell us a little more about it? Thanks!

Paul, IMHO that's pretty much a quintessential pocket knife right there! 2 blades, 2 bolsters, dark wood with silver accents, spearpoint main ... Can't ask for much more than that!

...
To Everyone here,
As a group you guys have excellent taste in knives. I really glad I found this place.
...
+ 5K  You hit the nail on the head, Stan, and could have taken the words right out of my keyboard! The people on The Porch have superb taste, many of them know an incredible amount about knives, and they're generous in so many ways! Welcome; looks like you've been a BF member for quite a while!

I've said it before and I'll probably keep saying it, Joe: that is a handsome old canoe!

That's why I prefer a smaller sized knife, they are easier to get out of the pocket.
:D:D To me, this was a pretty hilarious remark in context, Mike!

Going with my John Lloyd stag shadow and a Burt Foster forged Damascus/California Buckeye Burl Utility today.

I'd forgotten about that remarkable burl handle, Gary, but it was instantly recognizable in the pic!:thumbup:

I'm not a big Canoe fan but I really like that. Picked these two up at the post office today and put them in my pocket before I headed to work.

Congrats on a praiseworthy pair, Wheeler80!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend :) I had these two with me for a trip to York today, Mr Smith and Mr Wright ;)

I agree with Harry's comment that I don't recall seeing those knives of yours very often, Jack, but they're brilliant binary Barlows!

...
Thank you, Gary. To answer your question, a few years ago, Victorinox did a special run of the Cadets with no rings. They were in four or five colors and came with a sheath. I had the blue, orange, silver and red; later I sold the blue and orange (not a good idea). My photo below shows the silver. I like them without the ring which is also how the Alox Soldier, Solo, Bantam are made.
...
I have my Congress Whip (nice name for a knife) again today with one of my favorite Cadets in tow.

Thanks for the Cadet info, Dean; I think I may have seen those colorful sets of Cadets in a couple of knife shops in Spain when I visited my daughter 2 years ago. That Whip sure looks long and slender like its namesake!

I always enjoy that particular light/dark combo of yours, Tom!

Disappointed as my Irish are out of the dance but they lost to a great team, congrats Mountaineers.

GT Are you sure that RR is Irish? I'm having trouble discerning:D;)
...
Fabulous photo of an iconic knife, Paul! Sorry the Irish men bowed out of March Madness; the women are still in, right? Tom, your comment made me laugh earlier :D, but the RR apparently as Irish as it appears. I pulled it out in part to support Notre Dame's men's BB team, since they're one of my teams in the "Science Division NCAA Modeling Competition" we have at work, but the Stroke of Luck canoe couldn't provide help beyond squeezing out a win in the first round game! :(

(

Thank you, Gary. The Keen Kutter has some very subtle off-white grain, but I can't get it to show in a photo.
That was my Fancy Friday carry. I'm back to a WWII workhorse for the weekend.

Hi Frankster,
It's a Northfield Cutlery swell end Jack with a spear main and pen secondary, almost identical to the modern #77. I purchased by chance back when I was under the impression that Buck knives were the pinnacle of knives. I have learned other wise in the years since, not that I don't love my USA made Bucks still.

Ken,
Those are gorgeous! Who made the sheep's foot? I love the scales and fluted bolsters.

I actually came across the site doing some googleing, and after trying to register found out that I already had an account from 2008. I've never been a bid forum person, but these new smart phones make it so easy and convenient. I can't believe I missed out on all those years.

At the risk proving to be a complete ignoramus, I've never heard of that maker. Do you have any history on them?

There are so many and they are all great today! It's been a long time since 5:00AM and these two have been with me the entire time. Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!

I posted earlier this evening, but was so excited about what everybody's posting that I forgot to include the knives I'm carrying! :o
For the first weekend in a long time, I had time to pick out some knives not on my week-to-week carry schedule, just ones I like that haven't gotten carried recently (and some are relatively new so they're not even on my schedule that's in desperate need of an update). Here are some I grabbed for this "wild weekend".

A buckshot bone Colt canoe (thanks, Dave):

A Marbles stag bone sowbelly stockman (thanks, Randy):
