What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

It's an old Carl Schlieper Christian, one of my favourite hiking folders, and a gift from Duncan :)

It's a dandy, I can see why it's a favorite. Going to add it to my wish list, along with a Case/Bose Norfolk and a British Admiralty Pattern 301.

So many great pics folks, so many great knives, here's my carry for today.

Picked this up at the local discount sporting goods store today... snapped off the stupid glass breaker, regrouned the butt end and trashed the pocket clip - pretty happy with it for $13!

Ox-horn. I've got to write that down. I'm always getting buffalo, ram, and ox confused. (the covers, I mean. Not so much the animals) :D

And yes, that's a live crawfish. Here's what they look like cooked:

To be honest, there was no labelling or packaging with the knife - I've just seen others of similar looking material, called Ox-horn.

I remember someone, who I would expect to know a lot about the subject, once told me that rams horn is one of the toughest handle materials there is.

Wow, what a feast! Is that a low country boil - or am I getting my regions mixed up?

Looks magnificent, in any case!

Those antique yeller Crownlifters are really something, hey?

You just reminded me I have one of those clip point Crownlifters tubed, I haven't used yet, because m'trusty spearpoint gets all the action.

More info/pictures if you please!

It's a Boker Tech Tool 1. The Tech Tool line is Bakers answer to a SAK - this one only has one blade. 12c27 steel with a good grind, pretty nice fit and finish for the money :)

That's the same Sandvik steel as on the stainless Opinels, right? Good deal, I'll have to keep an eye out for one of those.

I think "low country" is a Southeastern thing (Georgia, South Carolina). We were having a Texas/Louisiana Crawfish Boil. Similar, but crazy spicy. I like that spear, and it's probably even more suited to cutting potatoes and spreading butter, but I thought the clip looked "jauntier" :D It is my dedicated "party knife" I only carry it to BBQs, fish boils, and other festive occasions.

Close, but no cigar.
Sandvik has two alloys with similar names.
12C27
12C27 Mod

Opinel uses 12C27Mod. It's reasonably similar to 420HC.

12C27 has a bit higher Carbon content and a bit lower Chromium content.

Ah, thank you, Frank. I was at least close, though.:o

Cool, thanks, looks like an awesome get together and feast!

Oh, my Huckleberry Crownlifter definitely peeled and sliced its share of potatoes, and spread many a Belfast soda bread with butter while I had it with me in Ireland!

I actually aesthetically prefer the clip blade too. I just happened to find the spearpoint first, and once I'd found how useful it was, I never looked back!

That is a stellar wish list my friend, I hope you manage to complete it :)

I picked up one of those a few months back (cost more here, but then everything does), useful knife

You are posting some great pics Chin :)

Hope everyone is enjoying Sunday. Great weather here, and I'm off to my mate's BBQ. Hoping to catch up here at some point too :)

Pocketing the Anchor Knife again today, gave it a lot of work yesterday and it proved pretty good :) Also, I might need to open a few bottles ;)

Once you learn the right way, no other type of boil suffices!

Your pics are only missing some beer, r8shell! But that's a mighty sweet beer opener you got there.

Thanks. Here you go:

Great mammoth on that Dowell!

Nice upgrade on the bike too Paul! That new paint scheme is the best one out there man. My bike is all still tore apart after sending lots of it out to be powdercoated. Waiting for the new front end internals to arrive and then I can get that all put back together and start riding. ('16 RGS by the way)
