What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

If I could ride Chui-888's bike to r8shell's Crawfish Boil I'd be one happy dude! I like the knives too!

For me today, this little Erickson.

Real nice Gary....except for the white stuff still hanging around! We only have it on the hills right now. Should be gone in a few days with the rain though lol.

I'm noticing the D2 is starting to take on a slightly darker grey sheen. Taking a long time to get there though!

Hope you take to the straight edge GT, just a short step from there to a Lambsfoot! ;) :D

Thanks my friend, but I've no idea how old it is I'm afraid. Maybe I WILL try and count the rings! ;) :D

Looks like you've been busy in the kitchen this week
Jack, this may be a case of asking for forgiveness rather than for permission, but I'm pretty sure I may have sneaked that Land Shark into the Guardians of the Lambsfoot thread at some point!
I have a hard time identifying uses for my pocket knives other than whittling or food prep, so I keep at least 4 in the kitchen each week. And although man does not live by bread alone, I do find myself chopping fruits and vegetables at least twice a day (and even some meat, now and then). ;)

...
Gary
A great lineup of real cutters. The top Mam looks like a great carry and light too
...
Thanks, Gev. My big MAM reminds me of a toothpick (perhaps because it was recommended by sitflyer, whose GEC Powderhorn is legendary to me). And you're correct that it's a very lightweight carry.

...
Thanks, Gary. Too bad about Colt; I thought their knives were well made (judged primarily by your photos).
...
Today, I'm carrying my Ulster scout (circa 1927 - 1940) and GEC Tidioute Whip (circa 2017).

I appreciate the sentiment regarding Colt, Dean; I may have to teach myself to use a popular auction site so I can still lasso a Colt every so often.
I knew those new GECs had a long, slender look, but I had no idea that an Ulster scout would have such a slim spearpoint main blade!

An urban outfit

...
Wonderful Barlow, Gev! But speaking of slim and slender, the fish in the bolster stamp takes that concept too far! :p

That AG Russell pen looks good with your Case/Bose!

Off out for a hike first thing in the morning, so I'm going to be packing these three :) Have a great weekend everyone ...
I hope the hike was enjoyable, Jack; your Three Amigos look very capable!

Had just my 77 Barlow in my pocket when going to the Badger Blade Show...

Came back with the 77 and these in my pockets ;...
Harry
Congrats, Harry!! You had an incredible day at the Show!
I've often dreamed about those Böker Sportmessers, and that TEW fills up your display, right?

Bulldog Puppies

Looks like a very healthy and handsome litter, Dee!

Today with a whale in the pocket !!!

f3dwdv.jpg
Thanks for the curiosity, this knife is made by Couteaux Farol in La Rochelle, France. It is made of Ebony wood and has a length of 11 cm (+/- 4.25 ").
...
Intriguing knife, Pt-Luso!:thumbup: Do you have any idea what the maker's mark stamped in the blade represents (in addition to the company name)? I looked at the Farol website and saw that they have many knives with this handle shape, and that what appears to be a "mouth" for the whale is actually some kind of spring. Can you describe how that spring works, please?

...
This arrived yesterday, another Black Box Winchester. Single-spring, Swell Centre Penknife. This one is going to be the user, fantastic slim knife, the Rogers Bone is super and you get a decent Spear master. All it needs is a good sharpen up and use. These are really good knives, a Small Gunstock 3" from the same series, came with with it and despite its small size it's burly and v.attractive. Not skimpy and toy like like some small knives can be, devil to photo though:eek:

IMG_4468.jpg
Congrats on another new BBW, Will! How many do you have now? You seem to be quite successful in locating and acquiring them.

Carrying this old saw-cut Wostenholm I*XL barlow today...

That's an achingly-beautiful knife, Atiger! Metro Atlanta must be where fine old Barlows go to retire. ;)

The top one has been with me for two weeks, and still is.

CaseSWBJ_01.jpg
What a phenomenally pulchritudinous pair, Jeff!:thumbup::thumbup:

First day or for my new Copperlock. It does fit nicely in hand.
N34Siee.jpg

I find many of my posts have been indoors of late... Need to get out some!
Congrats on the colorful Copperlock, Tom! How do you like the release bar in the middle of the handle rather than back near the end?

...
Lol, I just meant it is odd when the shield is upside down and i am showing the backsprings. Not sure why, just want to see the blades and tools on a scout knife I guess. My own idiosyncratic preference I suppose :D

Nice selection of Opinel GT . I have been looking at them a lot lately, I have one I want to try to mod a bit this summer.

Carbon steel and carbon fiber for me today.

I like that dark duo you have, and I especially like the carbon steel/carbon fiber rationale!
Thanks for elaborating on the shield thing, and for the compliment about my Opinels. :) What sort of mod are you planning? The smaller Opinel in that pic I posted has morphed into a cigar-shaped handle with a spearpoint blade; that wasn't the original plan, but I'm happy with the final result! :o

...
I've been busy and haven't posted in about a week.

I carried these two today.

Ken K.
Welcome back, Ken. As usual, a very handsome pair!

Fantastic photo of your very appealing knife, Chin!

...
Hope everyone is enjoying Sunday. Great weather here, and I'm off to my mate's BBQ. Hoping to catch up here at some point too :)

Pocketing the Anchor Knife again today, gave it a lot of work yesterday and it proved pretty good :) Also, I might need to open a few bottles ;)

That's a great pic of your new Anchor Knife, Jack; I'm even more smitten with the handle wood now that I've seen it in a different light! ;) As always, I enjoy pics from your extensive "knives and water" collection. :D

Joe, you have a lot of knives that this old man considers to be classics!

Thanks. Here you go:

You Texans have fresh sweet corn already??? Yet another reason I envy you, r8shell! ;)

Will - Now I know who some of my competition was! I am glad it went to someone who appreciates it! It's a great knife! :D

The top one has been with me for two weeks, and still is.

CaseSWBJ_01.jpg

Jeff - The Chestnut CV knives are some of the best in recent years from CASE. IHMO of course!

Thanks. Here you go:

Rachel - Regardless of the region, a good BOIL is a wonderful thing!:D

I am not really Totin this one today. Well it has spent some time in my pocket on my trips to the kitchen and some of the other important rooms in the house! After all there is three of the SEC's finest playing some B'Ball on TV today!:D

I'm gonna ask for a pass on this one, if the mods feel it doesn't belong I'll remove it. If it wasn't for the the thumb stud this is all traditional. David Winston drop point Liner Lock with maroon linen micarta covers. I've had this one for 15 years, it makes an excellent watch pocket knife.

XLJnuxs.jpg

Believe it or not the 25 will probably be the "big" knife with the crowd I'll be around today.

Sweet Knives today all!

This one makes an excellent worry stone with the fishbone texture while taking 911 calls at work.. its been a doozy of a day

Gorgeous Barlow, Drew!

My heart goes out to you in your work; it can't be easy doing what you do day in and day out. It's people like you that help all of us!:thumbup:

Also, I might need to open a few bottles ;)

I haven't seen that one in awhile, Jack! I consider that the best looking of the Radio Jacks.

That's a gorgeous knife, Gary! What is the handle material? (Totally off topic, but I think your wedding ring is cool, too.)

Thanks, Gary. The Ulster Scout is their model 1503 which is the smaller one, as such it is definitely more pocketable. It and my Case Junior Scout are just the size I like in a scout knife.

I think your Yankee Barlow is the best looking of all the versions and cover styles.:thumbup:

Today I'm carrying my favorite TC Barlow. It is carried often because it can be pinched open, has an easy pull and it's a spearpoint. It's also blood red. :) GT christened it "True Crimson." Photographed with the pocket slip that is it's home more often than not.

Real nice Gary....except for the white stuff still hanging around! We only have it on the hills right now. Should be gone in a few days with the rain though lol.

I'm noticing the D2 is starting to take on a slightly darker grey sheen. Taking a long time to get there though!

Thank you. Such a nice Trapper, Jake. I look forward to seeing the patina change on that D2. I'm still waiting for changes on some of my D2 knives.

I'm on a hill so I still have some snow. It'll be gone soon I hope!

That CV Swayback is a beauty. One of the nicest knives Case makes.

What a phenomenally pulchritudinous pair, Jeff!:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks for the compliment, I had to look that one up! I am glad I was able to find them still. Always like seeing your Chestnut CV sodbuster jr. and peanut.

Thanks Half/Stop, IMHO I agree with you except I am becoming addicted to vintage CaseXX knives!!

Thanks, Dean! The Erickson is covered in Antique Ivory Micarta. It's got a great look to it. Thanks on the wedding band too. I actually picked it out, and my wife liked it! ;)

Great TC you're carrying today! That pocket slip is very nice looking too.

GT Thanks, :) I'm not successful, I just suspect a whole load of luck has to do with most things. Don't believe in fate, all is random ;) Is there a mathematical equation for luck?:D I have Med Stockman, Small Gunstock, Whittler, Coffin Jack and the Swell Centre Pen. No duds, these are brilliant knives.

Ron Thank you too. Don't worry, I'm not after the whole set.... Only want two others now. Well, back up could be good too:D

Gary I'm not experienced, but I think Ken E is the best contemporary American maker, his work is so varied, doesn't confine himself to limited patterns and he gets the proportions as well as the quality so right on his examples. Too bad I can't tempt him!;) I think that Wharncliffe is really beautiful, bang on!

Regards, Will

Not to worry about that my friend, it's certainly close enough to be worthy of discussion I think  Thanks for the kind words on my Anchor Knife my friend, it's seen a lot of use this weekend, cutting wood, rope, cardboard, etc. The edge has held up great :) Nice line-up there

I haven't seen that one in awhile, Jack! I consider that the best looking of the Radio Jacks.

I always enjoy carrying it Dean, thanks :) That's a great-looking TC

I'm heading over to Sheffield today on a mission for Charlie C! Carrying this one, and an early A.Wright & Son Burma Knife that I'm afraid I don't have a pic of (and don't have time to take one now) :o

I hope your mission was a success, Jack. Any success for Charlie has the potential to be a success for all of us in the long run! :D (This is just my imagination running wild, but who wouldn't want to see a Charlie Campagna Lambsfoot SFO?) :D :D

Always a pleasure to see that beautiful golden Wright, too. ;)

One of my favorite knives right there, made even better with the addition of the EO notch! (I have one in jigged bone with an EO notch that was added by BigBiscuit, but I'd be too afraid to attempt it myself on my Ebony #25.)

Pre posting for tomorrows carry. Could be my most favorite vintage Jack Knife. An equal end Spear/Pen KABAR. Amazing bone covers, a shortened main but both blades SOLID as can be. Worn smooth over the years, plus a wrap around spring on the pen side:thumbup:

uuONB5.jpg

RDzowO.jpg

Wonderful bone on that one, Paul!

I finally filed my taxes, it's the weekend, so it's time to bust out the "Party Knife." Gonna go barbecue :D

That is a perfect party knife, Rachel! And my mouth is watering just looking at those crawfish! Sadly, I haven't been to a crawfish boil in years. Hard to get live crawfish in the desert. :(

Imperial jackknife and Colonial Forest-Master:

Nice knives, GT, but I can't say the same about that shirt. ;) :D

So many knives, so little time...

Jake, I'm not usually a fan of micarta, but that trapper is stunning in it's simplicity and form.

I'm gonna ask for a pass on this one, if the mods feel it doesn't belong I'll remove it.
XLJnuxs.jpg
I'll be interested to see what the more experienced say, but I think it's a real looker!

Jeff, that's one elegant Case for sure, beautiful covers.

Dispatch 184 I'm looking to have one of those fishbone barlows made, different but certainly catches my eye. Looks to be a sheepsfoot, no? Looks great, will keep that in mind.

GT I do like that Remington Barlow you're sporting. Can you tell me what year it's from?

I think the mid-point release on a lockback is superior to having it further back. A simple slide of the thumb back an inch to reach the release as the other hand folds the blade.

Nice carries everyone:thumbup:

Barrett, nice #48 and well worn cap, thank you for the compliment on my KABAR. My Minnesota Twins cap is similar condition wise to your St Louis cap, I just can't seem to part with it though:thumbup:

Will walk my dogs later today so this one seems appropriate.
