What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Padruig, a very nice pair and great composition to boot! Tell us about Blackie if you would. Is it by chance the same as the Tidioute that our friend flatblackcapo posted after you?

Thank you for the compliments, Tom. I believe it is the same frame as FBC's knife, but a different blade. His has a spear, mine a sheepfoot. They are both just fantastic knives, in my opinion, I am rather fond of both blade types.

Here is another shot of my pair with the sheepfoot blade out.

GT, I'm no expert on CCC, but in brief, it was founded by a knifemaker by the name of Bob Cargill, back in the '80s I believe. He thus predated the current crop of American traditional small batch makers by decades. As his health failed he partnered with Blackjack, which is when the Effingham IL tang stamp came into use. Knives of this era were very well made in my opinion, but some will say any CCC knife from this period on is not authentic (or worse). Perhaps others here more knowledgeable than I will add to this history.

Here's a synopsis of the brand: http://knifetalkin.blogspot.com/2013/08/cripple-creek-cutlery.html

On the second post of this thread Mr. Cargill is quoted. He was apparently embittered by the partnership with Blackjack. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/viewtopic.php?t=13559&start=15

Speaking of which the Effingham CCC barlow is back in my pocket today.
I don't know any more about the history of Cripple Creek, but this is a Bob Cargill bolster-lock folder from the pre-Cripple Creek days. He has a Facebook page, but it doesn't seem too active.

Well the camo Vic classic GT gifted me has to leave my pocket for a bit.
I was visiting my mom for a few days and I finally got to have the red Vic classic I found on the ground when I was 3 which she took " until you're old enough ".
It needed a good soak and flushing with some hot soapy water, a quick sharpening, and a bit of mineral oil, but otherwise the knife itself is only slightly used.
I was going to give it to my dad, but he didn't think he'd use it much and left me with the burden of having 3 of them to choose from ( such a first world problem right :D )

GT, I really dig the Staglon, too. I have a half dozen bone handled 8OTs, and an original stag, but I love to carry the stainless Uncle Henry.

Well now, that's a story. And how long would that wait have been?:D
Only 19 years, but if I hadn't gotten it while I was there it could've been 30.
Congrats, H&S; glad you finally are old enough to reclaim your Classic!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::D Moms sometimes seem to have a warped sense of time! ;)

Yet another classic Barlow, Steve!! Your entire collection must be monumental!!:thumbsup::cool:

While on vacation the last couple weeks, I managed to find some Victorinox knives that pleased me, and are currently all in my pocket. I picked up a red old cross Pioneer the first Sunday and a Pocket Pal the second Sunday at an antique store in the little town 3 miles west of the little town in which we've been staying. I purchased the black Alox Money Clip at a consignment shop yesterday. (The Minichamp is one that I've carried daily for a couple of years.) Anyone know if the slight difference between the shield on the Pocket Pal and the Money Clip (horizontal cross arms of Pocket Pal don't connect to surrounding shield outline) indicates anything about relative ages? (Even better, can anyone point me to a Vic "logo chart" with dates?)

Seeing yours makes me want to carry my pocket pal next week maybe starting this weekend:thumbsup:

I stopped by an antique store when I was staying at my mom's, and most of the knives were more than I was willing to pay though there were a few Rogers and keen kutter.
They did have a real rusty one without a price tag that I was interested in because I thought it could end up being be an imperial Kamp king in my pocket for a good price, but it turned out to be a Sabre Japan missing it's bail so I didn't even bother to ask for a price.
