What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

:D :D Actually, Tom, I'm experimenting this week with a "fanny pack" to hold my knives, phone, flashlight, etc. My work requires me to frequently visit schools where pocket knives are typically not welcome. Just unbuckling the fanny pack to leave in the car is a LOT easier than emptying all my pockets! And my pants stay up much better! ;)

If you ever visit over here my friend, you'll probably find it easier to explain away the dozen pocket knives than the fanny pack! ;) :D

Good to see those two partnering again, Jack!:thumbsup::thumbsup: But what in the world is the Abbeydale resting on?? It looks like the Log of Melted Coins, or something equally Dalian!!

Thanks GT :) A Log of Melted Coins indeed! Bizarrely, I've seen one of these before!

Smashing! :)

I've read a number of theories regarding three notches on a knife. From marking it for use only with dairy and fish for those who keep kosher, to noting confirmed kills. I doubt either of those apply to this working knife. The number three has significance in many cultures, so maybe it's for good luck and protection. In other words: I have no idea, it was that way when I got it. o_O :D

Now it's Wooden Wednesday, so I'm adding a little tree to my day's carry.

Love that big Pruner r8shell  Do you remember the three notches thread years ago?! :)

Clean, simple, sturdy, elegant.

Both are sweet but I really like the fixed blade FBC

Beauties Tom! Wow!

Thanks Alan! Much appreciated.

These two today, trying to figure out a new way to carry the SAK without it being loose in my pocket. Looking for a horizontal belt sheath maybe.

Thanks Gary! :) I always enjoy the Bone on that Sowbelly, just a beautiful knife my friend!

Thanks Gary. I agree with Ron about the beauty of the bone coloring on your RR Sowbelly. Nice!
Thanks, Ron & Bob. :) That RR sowbelly introduced me to the pattern, and it may be my second favorite pattern (after canoes). I have quite a few, and they're all beauties to me (including one Ron knows well). Last weekend I had a Sodbuster Sat/Sun; maybe I'll go all sowbellies SATURDAY, SUNDAY, and LABOR DAY MONDAY!!!:D (As the announcers on radio ads for the local dragstrip used to scream.)

Since I got this one on Saturday, it has really grown on me

That one has a lot of charm, lambertiana; congrats!!:thumbsup: Stag lockback coffin jack?

Exemplary horn on that lambsfoot, FBC!!:cool::thumbsup:

GT, good idea. I do remember when fanny packs were all the rage, was it in the'80s? My wife is on the Ski Patrol at our local hill, and finds her FP indespensable for exactly the reason you mention, easy on, easy off.
Well GT, you won't believe what I found, a Buck Scout waist pack. Yes, that Buck. https://www.sportsmansguide.com/pro...pGRsjz3M1oE1yabf66ShgYIzCNHV11JkaApFiEALw_wcB

Get yourself some fishing tackle plastic organizers and you're in business.
Thanks, Tom. That Buck pack seems immense compared to the tasteful little black leather one I've been strapping on/off this week!!

Splendid sylvan trio for WW, r8shell!:cool::thumbsup: I'd never heard of the notches to indicate a knife reserved for a specific purpose, but that makes sense.

There's been a few Otter Messers around lately, so I thought I'd bring this out for a carry.

Clean, simple, sturdy, elegant.

And at just over 4 1/8" closed, looks like it'd ace the all-important peanut-butter-spreader test too!
I'm a fan of Otter's big spearpoints (as on my Black Cat)!:cool::thumbsup: Are the handles of your knife some kind of blond horn, Chin?

Simplicity from the early 1970's this morning. I picked it out of the drawer as soon as I eyed it.

I see what you did there, Stuart! :D:thumbsup: Stellar stag on that knife; in this case, the "eyes" have it. ;)

That Böker Barlow is still looking big-league, Grateful!:thumbsup::cool:

My new to me Dunlap again today. And gotta show the file work.

Jack, your disdain for my fashion sense reminds me of the constant abuse I get in that arena from my wife and daughter!! :p
Thanks for the big barlow comment, and for more photos from the Forbidden Forest!:thumbsup:;)
Was there a thread about 3 notches? I can't find it (so far) using the Search function, but that doesn't necessarily mean much.

Thanks for the good word, Tom. :) Your blue Farmer is vibrant!!:thumbsup: I was just looking at Farmers online this morning, wondering if one should be a Labor Day purchase.

Far be it to comment on ANYONE's fashion sense GT, let's just say it's question of linguistics! ;) :D  Nice threesome my friend, I have one of those Barlows myself :)

I remember vaguely that there was some controversy on the subject, but I can't imagine why and can't seem to find it in a search. Oh well, it's an impressive folder and I'm hoping whatever the notches mean they're good luck. :)

Hard to find anything with the new search function, even if you have the thread title :( I think John Slider may have been the OP

If you look closely you can see that the etching on the blade looks faded in the middle. It doesn't bother me much because of the barlows I have I chose this one to be the user because most of my traditionals have bone covers and I really am lacking in wood covers. I didn't really mean to, I like them both, I just ended up with more bone covers than wood. But don't get me wrong this knife is stellar. Once you get them cleaned out and oiled, they "click" and "clock" really loud and crisp. A truly wonderful time to be in the traditional knife renaissance!

The warmth of the darker scale on this "two faced" 77 S stamp is surprising despite the dreary, cool rainy weather!

The light side brightens things up a bit.

Great user knife that has happily been my go-to the since I received it and the patina is starting to show.
