What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

IMG_3822.jpg

Still caring for my sick ones today, so I'm carrying a couple of sharp GECs to cut up whatever food they can tolerate. Oddly enough, so far its been beef sticks and string cheese!:D

In 1886, a product was first sold in Atlanta, GA, that would later sweep the world in sales.

That Mauser is in great shape! I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but I gave one of those to my son many years ago. His looks very well used: missing the guard on the saw, blade sharpened several times, etc. But then the Mauser looks good either way!

:D Seems doubtful that it would be my glove. Did it look like the one behind my "Silver Bullet" Imperial?

Not really, as it is imaginary. I really need to start labeling my "humor." Always good to see that Imperial, Gary. :thumbsup:

My entry for today.

Best custom slipjoint made in it's time frame I have seen. Stag mirrors Queen winterbottom bone, no washers, D2, dovetailed bolsters, filework ... too bad Ed didn't make knives but a few years. Local to me and also retired Air Force. We collaborated on the blade shapes, styles, etc ... my interpretation of the perfect slipjoint in 2001, maybe even still today.

This blade is awesome for pull cuts.

Phenomenal, love it!

Thanks Dean :) Lads can do that to a knife ;) I was 21 when I got mine, and carried it everyday for the next 10 years. The cork-screw is very slightly sprained from overzealous uncorking, and there's a few scratches on the punch, but otherwise, it's in pretty good shape, all things considered :) The bottle-opener has certainly popped a lot of caps over the years! :D :thumbsup:

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed this post, very thoughtful, and timely... And those words ring so true especially in these times we are living.

Slowly staggering into Stagurday, I wasn't sure what to pick to carry today. Fortunately, the nice selection of stockman and whittler knives shown here helped me decide what to put in my pockets. A Kutmaster stockman.

...
And a Kissing Crane (Robert Klass) whittler that was part of the 1980 NKCA Museum commemorative set.

...
This Kissing Crane was not a part of the set that contained this 1980 Schrade, as it was part of the 1980 NKCS Museum Founders commemorative set (and I'm not carrying it today - no more pocket space).

Impressive variety in your stag choices, Stuart!! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup: Is that Kutmaster unusual in using a pen to replace the sheep foot, rather than the spey, blade? The Kissing Cranes whittler has a shape I've not seen before, with the "notch" along the backspring just behind the pivot for the main blade. :confused:

Glad to put the 78 in rotation.
My old work van resisted but fired up regardless of the balmy weather:D...

A new arrival yesterday so I snapped a quick pick of my latest #78 and then put my gloves back on asap:eek:
nsBgKN.jpg
Taylor, Corn Fed, Babalu32, & Paul, the jigging on your new 78s is outstanding!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I have a real fondness for checkered bone (and want to try doing it to wood on an Opinel someday). :):thumbsup::thumbsup:
Paul, like your van, I'd be reluctant to get going at -19˚F! :eek::D I finally had to replace the original battery in my 2007 Focus during sb-zero weather earlier this month! :(

The whole Queen fiasco has got me thinking that I need to carry my Railsplitter again.

Been working in the house, but about to run some errands with my Garonnais and Boker Tree Barlow.
Looks like a superb pair, JTB_5 JTB_5 , although I don't recall seeing a Garonnais before! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: If you have the time, I'd enjoy learning more about that knife. (The Böker Barlow is a resolution of mine for 2018. ;))

Been away for a bit due to a family issue, but hoping to participate more going forward. These two today:

That black Bark River and Orange Farmer are one of my favorite pairings of yours, Tom!! :cool::cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Day 1 carry for this single spring
That big pen knife looks like it's a party in your pocket, Duane! :D:thumbsup::cool: (What does the TK in TK Cuban stand for??)

I took the canoe to town today for its maiden voyage...pun intended:)

Looking good, @315 !! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

... I think it's gonna be in my pocket for a little while ~ it came out pretty sweet!

"Pretty sweet" sounds right to me, HeathH HeathH ! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: I really like the edges you've got on the blades! :thumbsup::)

Tried my hand at a forced patina with apple cider vinegar. For my first time, I don’t think it turned out bad at all. Time to let it go natural from here.

Congrats on the successful "experiment", Jake! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: I've got to try that one of these days on a pristine carbon blade. ;)

Captivating collection of canoes, GT!
...
Thanks Gary. That is a fine flotilla of canoes!

For Stagurday. :eek::rolleyes::D

Thanks GT! I need to train my eye better...didn't even occur to me. But then I don't have a green knife...hmmm...

That is a boat-load (???) of canoes! Very nice!
Beautiful and beautifuller!!
- Stuart
@Nature Boy , @flatblackcapo , peanutsxx peanutsxx , & D Duckdog , thanks for the canoe comments. :)
FBC, that Cherry Tree Chopper is quite a revelation!! :thumbsup:;):cool:
Stuart, the bolster stripes on the RR canoe are a little too busy for me, but the jigging is surprisingly nice, IMHO. The Winchester canoes are OK, but not built very soundly. :(

You guys and gals are probably sick of seeing this knife... but it has ruled my pocket since it's arrival.
ECQROer.jpg
Sick of seeing it?? :confused: Rob, I think I feel better each time I see pics of that sublime knife! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for the compliment Elvis,....I mean Gary! ;) Your RR Tobacco Bone is a beautiful knife! :thumbsup::cool:
...
Looks like you've been busy GT! :D :) I think RR do a nice job of their Tobacco Bone, really like the covers of that AGR Mohawk too :thumbsup:
...
Carrying this A.Wright Sambar Lambsfoot again today, and encouraged by one of @leghog 's recent threads, I've dug out the other two, which I bought in 1979 and 1982 respectively :thumbsup:

I always enjoy seeing stag-handled knives, Jack, and your "old friends Sunday" pair is notable! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Ron & Jack, thanks for the tobacco bone compliments. I'm a big fan of Rough Rider folders, but I'm not completely satisfied with their dyeing of smooth bone. The pics I posted show the "good side" of my tobacco bone knives; in each case, the other side is quite different, and not as uniform and vivid. No complaints about the Mohawk stag canoe, though! :D

Really like the looks of that modded 3-blade electrician, r8shell! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

That's a felicitous foursome, Jer! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Couple of other recent pick-ups that I've been toting this week:

5K Qs 5K Qs , I did not know what the the T.K. Stood for, but a little bit of the Google machine magic told me a tale, that it is the initials of a customer who kept asking for such a knife, as to the identity of said personage, I have no knowledge , thanks for the clue, I am really liking this knife, it's big, it's bright, and it's very well built, perfect to me in the walk and talk, no blade rub even though they are tucked in so nice and tight with that beautiful swedge on the back side of that big ole clip, and it came rather sharp from the tube, I didn't feel the need to even touch the edge, probably the sharpest GEC I have ever had out of the tube. :)
