What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

The 13, being a Congress pattern, has a total different feeling in hand than the 15 or 78. Being 3-5/8 in length in falls exactly between the other patterns you mentioned. The 13 is a relatively slim design which makes it easy to carry. The Speaker Jack having Sheepfoot main and Pen secondary blades makes a good combination. The Pen nail nick facing to the rear also offers no interference with the main as far as ease of opening and they both ride low in the frame. My favorite 13 pattern is actually the Clerk which has Wharncliffe main and opposite end Pen opening on a single spring. This is a really nice thin knife. I would probably not list the 13 as my favorite from GEC, but it is a really nice pattern. :)

Thank you my friend! :)
Thanks Half/Stop Half/Stop

That would be a cool idea, but it isn't Rivendell. It is a custom knife made by Roland Lannier. He calls it "Spring Heeled Jack" and it is made from using resin-soaked comic book pages. He uses comic book pages for his production knives, but I asked him if he could make one for me with pages from an art book. The picture you see is El Greco's "View of Toledo," which I got to see in person when I chaperoned a trip to NYC. It is funny that you should mention Rivendell because I had been trying to decide between a scene from LOTR or the El Greco piece.

I like it, any way you frame it. Maybe I'll just pretend it's Rivendell, and smile whenever I see it!

My new Fight´n Rooster barlow, which hasn´t left my pocket since I received it last week. It seems to be kinda special: it has a blade stamped and etched with Fight´n Rooster, but on the Bolster it´s marked Tobacco. This usually appears on the bolster of Bulldog Brand barlows, afaik. But because the knives of both brands were made in the Olbertz factory in Solingen in the ´80s, it might be an error or the use of left over parts. Who knows....

Love that shadow pattern Micarta Frontier, r8shell! Very cool!

We have a lot of excitement around here . After this sinks , we will go watch the Stop Light change.

:D :D

Thank you for the compliments, Barrett, I am humbled by them. I am by no means a great photographer, there are many others here who deserve that honor. I just try and do the best with what I have and I have found that I enjoy it quite a bit. I currently use a Samsung Galaxy S8+ for my picture taking. Not only is the camera somewhat decent for a phone, but it has some great built in software too. I had some great discussions over dinner the other night with a professional photographer and it really got my interest even more piqued, to the point where I am considering investing in a good camera and maybe taking a class or two.

That will have to wait until after we purchase a home though. And yes, home buying is turning into a rather arduous process and I really want it to be done. The market is abysmal for buyers and though I have heard reports that the "bubble" will likely pop soon, we do not have the luxury of time. We currently are renting and the property owners have decided to level our entire street in order to build half a million dollar villas for the independent living needs of their wealthy and retired clients. Fun stuff... It is unfortunate that it is more expensive to rent right now than to carry a mortgage. Otherwise, we might seek out another rental and bide our time a little longer.

Thanks for the info about your photos, Dylan. They always look good to me! I take all my pictures with my iPhone, and for the most part I think it does well (far better than the 5 megapixel digital point and shoot I had 10 or 12 years ago), but sometimes I just can't get it to do quite what I want, especially indoors, or trying to get close-up photos of small things (like, you know, knives). :D

That's an unfortunate situation, being forced out of your current place and having to find a house quickly. Best of luck!

Those ebony Churchills look superlative in any setting!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I wonder if the Churchills will win an Oscar tonight?? :D
Well, they have my vote. :D

Yes indeed, his fixed blades look to be good value. I have never had a file knife, but I like the idea of them. Great to see Betty :)
I have been told that the new files are much harder to work with that the old files, do to the higher amount of alloying of the steel being used. I guess there are still lots of old files floating around. Now you want to talk about cool, Those guys that made files by hand back in the day have my respect, for sure!

I've never been too excited about the peasant but your mod always catches my eye. Very nice mod job!

Actually this is the big brother to the 71, the 21 Bull Buster. I have a couple of 71s reserved from the upcoming production run. I do like this 21 quite a bit though. A big knife but still pocketable and it worked wonders on a slab of smoked prime rib the other night.
Mmmmm prime rib!

Thanks for the clarification. I passed when the 21's came around, thinking that they would be too big for my tastes buuuut now you have me thinking that I might have been wrong.

A (new to me) ebony Chruchill.

I like both of your knives, but really like the Case penknife; I have one and it is a favorite of mine.:thumbsup:

My evergreen TC spey. A beautiful design.

That spey blade TC and the sheath are top-shelf, Dean!:thumbsup::thumbsup: A spearpoint blade is my favorite, but a spey is in my top three. I think I'd really like to find a mini trapper with spey and wharncliffe; that would definitely be an "improved mini trapper" IMHO!

Out of the safe for some Sunday love :)

BAM! That's what I'm talkin' about!:p Thanks, Jeff! ;)

... I bought this one in 1970 & it was in my jeans pocket every single day for over 30 years until I retired it. I take it out of the case, oil the joints, and fondle it occasionally, because it makes me smile.

Unfortunately not, but it is a place that I like a lot, especially being on the esplanade to have a coffee, next to that swimming pool that is seen next to the water of the river...
Very attractive setting! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you for the kind compliments, as always, GT. I am finding that my current ratio of red knives to black is a bit skewed, I need to find more red covered beauties. :D
I appreciate the well wishes as well. I wish I could say that this weekend was successful but it was not to be. We found an amazing house and put in a rather remarkable offer. It just seems that everyone else thought the same thing too and we ended up competing with 16 other offers... Ours was not chosen. The hunt goes on!

I have been away since the past Friday and have finally made my way through the weekend of posts (whew!). I was helping some hunting buddies with an annual charity fund raising wild game dinner that they hold to support Hunters for the Hungry, a program that provides donated venison to community food banks and feeding centers. ... I was in charge of grilling the pepper, onions, and venison andouille sausage on a flattop (we had two trailers with cooking stations and smoker/grills, as well as two very large smokers/grills and a commercial catering kitchen (indoors).

This is the first of three batches of peppers/onions, which were then mixed with three equal sized batches of grilled sliced sausages (too busy then to snap pics):

I do not know the rules , but I would assume that it is in when it is sitting down in the Lake . At that point in the lake it is probably only 4 feet deep .

5K Qs 5K Qs Thanks, GT, for your compliments and for your extensive erudite, educational, and consistently comforting commentary for all of us on the Porch. The few days that I was away accentuated, for me, the true value (as measured in warmth and information, as well as the axiomatic advantage of alliterations) in reading your observations, much less getting a kindly nod. It's good to be back.

What is the story on this recovered BF stag jack? Was the stag not to your liking?

The color bone and shape of the jigging looks nice.

Dirk,

Hopefully someone has already corrected you on the Fight’n Rooster Barlow ....time to do a little research before you beginning guessing about knives...here a simply search using Fightn Rooster barlow would have provided the answer that the knife was made just as is in the photo

thx Boggs, I'd never say, it wasn't build that way, but I wonder, if it was usual. I' ve only found one further example, a 2- bladed one, of a F'n R with a Tobacco bolster on the other forum, but lots of their Barlows with plain bolsters. On Bulldog Brand Barlows they're more common. So it might be a very small series or even something made on special request. But there's noboby left at Olbertz you can ask nowadays, sad but true
