What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

You know, one molotov cocktail at 2am on your "picked date" could bag a win for ya ;)

Please forgive my late responses folks, it wasn't my intention to ignore anyone. It just has been a rather busy weekend.

I love that pair of Ebonics knives, Dylan!!:thumbsup::p

Black and Red stick in my head! ;) Captivating combo, Dylan!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I hope the house hunt is successful soon!

Thank you for the kind compliments, as always, GT. I am finding that my current ratio of red knives to black is a bit skewed, I need to find more red covered beauties. :D
I appreciate the well wishes as well. I wish I could say that this weekend was successful but it was not to be. We found an amazing house and put in a rather remarkable offer. It just seems that everyone else thought the same thing too and we ended up competing with 16 other offers... Ours was not chosen. The hunt goes on!

Ya found one! How do you like it?......the 71.

Actually this is the big brother to the 71, the 21 Bull Buster. I have a couple of 71s reserved from the upcoming production run. I do like this 21 quite a bit though. A big knife but still pocketable and it worked wonders on a slab of smoked prime rib the other night.

Great photo (as always), Dylan! Do you use your phone to take photos, or a dedicated camera? Also, good luck on the house hunt. That's one of my least favorite things to do. :D (We're renting a place here in MN until we get settled a bit and know the area better, but I swear my wife has looked at houses online every day since before we got here, and will probably continue doing so every day until we buy one. I don't know how she does it. I feel like I'm still recovering from house hunting five years ago when we bought our place in AZ.)

Thank you for the compliments, Barrett, I am humbled by them. I am by no means a great photographer, there are many others here who deserve that honor. I just try and do the best with what I have and I have found that I enjoy it quite a bit. I currently use a Samsung Galaxy S8+ for my picture taking. Not only is the camera somewhat decent for a phone, but it has some great built in software too. I had some great discussions over dinner the other night with a professional photographer and it really got my interest even more piqued, to the point where I am considering investing in a good camera and maybe taking a class or two.

That will have to wait until after we purchase a home though. And yes, home buying is turning into a rather arduous process and I really want it to be done. The market is abysmal for buyers and though I have heard reports that the "bubble" will likely pop soon, we do not have the luxury of time. We currently are renting and the property owners have decided to level our entire street in order to build half a million dollar villas for the independent living needs of their wealthy and retired clients. Fun stuff... It is unfortunate that it is more expensive to rent right now than to carry a mortgage. Otherwise, we might seek out another rental and bide our time a little longer.

Apologies, I let myself carry on a bit too much there. I am carrying the two knives that I deem the most used/useful of my ever burgeoning collection.

Thanks for that info on the polished edge Jeff/Eric, I always wondered about that:thumbsup:

Ironbut, talk about character:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I think the Uncle Henry Schrade Waldens all had serial numbers on the inside brass liners? unless that was just on the #897?

Thanks Paul. The serial # on it is 15234. This one very rarely saw a sharpening stone, but was always razor sharp. I drove a truck delivering canned goods, produce & fruit all up & down the East Coast at the time & while waiting to load or unload, I'd strop it on any cardboard case available.

I have been away since the past Friday and have finally made my way through the weekend of posts (whew!). I was helping some hunting buddies with an annual charity fund raising wild game dinner that they hold to support Hunters for the Hungry, a program that provides donated venison to community food banks and feeding centers. We prepared and served grilled venison backstraps, grilled turkeys, grilled peppers/onions and venison andouille sausage, rabbit pot pie, fried catfish, fried quail, fried frog legs, goose stroganoff, venison ragout, and venison and vegetable stir-fry for 250-300 folks (other volunteers provided baked goods and desserts). I was in charge of grilling the pepper, onions, and venison andouille sausage on a flattop (we had two trailers with cooking stations and smoker/grills, as well as two very large smokers/grills and a commercial catering kitchen (indoors).

This is the first of three batches of peppers/onions, which were then mixed with three equal sized batches of grilled sliced sausages (too busy then to snap pics):

The folks in the background are deep frying the catfish, quail, and frog legs. I carried 3 small pocket knives with me, but when it came time for a picture to post, they had been "borrowed" for beer opening, cigar cutting, etc., so I had to grab my trusty GESCUT/Sabre daddy barlow from the truck:

Now that I am returned home, I'm totin' a bit lighter today. Just this one:

Green knives usually don't appeal to me but this one would definitely get me to change my mind!

Thank you! GEC did a great job on all the spey TCs.

Wow!! Outstanding knife AND slip!

Thank you!

Gorgeous knives, Jack! The congress jack looks classy in ebony.

Hi Paul. Just an additional comment on the serial numbers. They continued for awhile into the Schrade era. I have both a Schrade 897 and 885 with serial numbers - SO3995 and 9313 respectively. The serial numbers make a great study, especially for the 897s as they got into some pretty high letter and number combinations.

I've been a photographer for 50+ years Dylan with just about every type of camera. I too recently acquired a Samsung S8+ phone/camera and it works very well for many types of photos. For the smaller file sizes of the Internet it works especially well.

My brother's family all has the new Samsung, and I'm blown away every time he sends me a picture. My old LG G3 just can't come close. I try to use my DSLR on the weekends, but I tend to get a bit lazy for that.

Anyways, I decided to carry my NOS Camillus TL-29 today instead of a small fixed blade. It's teamed up with my EDC Peanut, SAK, and Space Pen.

That's quite a setup there Stuart. And for a good cause.
Thanks. After we shut the fryers and grills down we moved inside to a private cocktail lounge that one of the guys built next to the catering kitchen in that outbuilding you see in the pics. We had grilled up a mess of lollipop lamb chops for the cooking crew and fixed a libation or three. This pic is truncated; there are fourteen at the bar and 8 more seated at wall-side booths.

Josh, is that Rivendell on your sodbuster handle? Tell us more!

That would be a cool idea, but it isn't Rivendell. It is a custom knife made by Roland Lannier. He calls it "Spring Heeled Jack" and it is made from using resin-soaked comic book pages. He uses comic book pages for his production knives, but I asked him if he could make one for me with pages from an art book. The picture you see is El Greco's "View of Toledo," which I got to see in person when I chaperoned a trip to NYC. It is funny that you should mention Rivendell because I had been trying to decide between a scene from LOTR or the El Greco piece.

What do you like about the speaker jack? I’ve not held one and am curious about the pattern. How does it compare to a 15 or 78 or other jacks?
The 13, being a Congress pattern, has a total different feeling in hand than the 15 or 78. Being 3-5/8 in length it falls exactly between the other patterns you mentioned. The 13 is a relatively slim design which makes it easy to carry. The Speaker Jack having Sheepfoot main and Pen secondary blades makes a good combination. The Pen nail nick facing to the rear also offers no interference with the main as far as ease of opening and they both ride low in the frame. My favorite 13 pattern is actually the Clerk which has Wharncliffe main and opposite end Pen opening on a single spring. This is a really nice thin knife. I would probably not list the 13 as my favorite from GEC, but it is a really nice pattern. :)

Fantastic combination Ron ;)
Thank you my friend! :)
