What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

@Atiger That's a beautiful old knife with a lot of soul, Wayne. Thanks for sharing.
Peregrin Peregrin I really like that little Crotts, Gary. Perfect for fixed blade carry in a coat pocket (or even in my big pockets pants).

I woke up to a fresh blanket of snow this morning, and it is still falling, so I'm not sure what I will be up to today (I certainly have plenty to do at home). I am carrying these two though, an A.Wright Lambsfoot and a Dutch Army Knife :thumbsup:

That pair looks like it can get the job done, whatever it is! :thumbsup::thumbsup: I should add a Dutch Army Knife to my shopping list, given my ethnic heritage and terminal case of Alox Pox! ;)

Nice Portuguese knife!!!
Thank you sir. :) I have 2 MAM models that I like very much! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

You're welcome my friend, you are always very generous :) I guess the mark was supposed to look like a British silver (Assay) mark, which it resembles.

Stan worked for Wostenholm when they were made, and after recently being given some parts by the former owner of one of Sheffield's old cutlery firms, he made a few up, but using different materials (buffalo in this case), and polishing the blades, and bolsters. The tangs have the Schrade-Wostenholm mark, but Stan has stamped the brass liners :thumbsup:

Thanks for the informative post, Jack! :thumbsup::cool::) Your Stan Shaw I*XL stockman is even more special than I thought! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

That's what a stockman knife ought to look like!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Excellent whittler, Ron! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

This old ‘33-‘41 Russell barlow today...

Resplendent Russell Barlow, Wayne! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Love that Holub, GT!

JK Bluegill and GEC 14 in Ebony accompanying the usual suspects today.

Thanks for the Holub homage, Shawn. :) Sure wish I could get it sharp; I grind away on an extra-coarse DMT diafold, take off Sharpie marking in all the right places, and can't slice paper! :(:mad:
Nice pair of knives in your pic, and I like the background of an infinite grid of rebar!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Today, I'm totin' a bipolar barlow - one dark side, one side bright. A Case 6143 from 1978.

Its carry-mate is a previously posted Imperial barlow from 1956-1988 (shown together in an old photo).

That two-tone Case sure is unique, Stuart! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

A knife and a book from 2004. I finally got around to finding this Guinness book, as it's rather important for me and my family (Thomas Peck is my dad).

Very cool, Aaron!! :cool::cool::cool::thumbsup:

This mention made for a much more mellifluous morning. Thanks, GT.

I, too, see the symbiotic symmetry in these paired patterns, almost organic. I really like the look of the jigged bone on your knives.

All-out alliteration alert!! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup: Thanks, Stuart. :)

Cool pic of a hot knife, Dean. :cool::thumbsup::p Looks like your scratted Ancient has the power to hold off an approaching Ice Age!

Another find my friend brought back for me from the flea market (along with the vintage cast-iron pan) is this I*XL Wostenholm Barlow. It's got a carbon steel blade, and excellent walk and talk, and the absolutely ugliest faux-stag covers I've ever seen. :eek:
I'm carrying it today, trying to decide if it's worth trying my hand at replacing them with some wood.
View attachment 864024
Very subjective, I know, but I kind of like those covers! :rolleyes: The texture (and, unfortunately, even the color) reminds me of the veins on the backs of my hands! :p

One of my all time FAVORITES today, 2015 Lick Creek freshly stropped:thumbsup:

Very appealing knife, Paul! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thank you, GT! My first pic of the 15 was in sunlight, which I think made the red bone look more brilliant than it actually is. It is darker, more subdued hue, though not at all unpleasant.

I decided to shirk the black today and go over to the light side (for at least a day... ;)). Still rocking the red 15 though.

Thanks for the color commentary, Dylan. I definitely prefer the stately, darker, dignified red to a flashier, brighter, riotous red! ;) Another gorgeous daily double for you! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

I’ve been carrying my GEC 25 Barlow w/Red Sawcut Bone this week. When I return to carrying a 25, I’m always pleasantly surprised at how much knife can be packed into a diminutive model like this one.

That red 25 Barlow is a beauty, Ratbert! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

We should have a poll: is your knife simply elegant, or elegantly simple? ;):cool::cool::thumbsup:

Alox Knife of the Week for me is a silver Cadet (thanks, Ken):

I don't want to leave my barlow brothers (and sisters) hanging today, so I'll be rotating in carrying one of these tres amigos throughout the day. They were produced by Queen in 1972 to celebrate both the sesquicentennial of Queen City Cutlery's incorporation in 1922 (the year Schatt & Morgan fired 5 supervisors who formed QCC) with a "1922 Q 1972" tang stamp and the Drake oil well in Titusville, PA. The Drake well was drilled by Edwin Drake in 1859 on the banks of Oil Creek (!!) south of Titusville and was the first commercially successful oil well in the US.

The reflection of a white oak limb in the bolsters adds a unique "photo-etched" look.

The pepper flakes on the lower two pile-side bolsters shows the peril of storing knives on one side only, especially in a humid coastal environment.

Very busy day around here today and have to use some old photos of what I am carrying today . It is a Two TEWs Friday today .

I really like these 2 old guys . I have come to the conclusion that the Sheepsfoot or a Lambfoot blade is MY most usable blade . I will use which ever one I pull out first .

Thanks, Stuart.
After I found a way to carry it, it's always with me.
It's sold as a neck knife. I put a short piece of paracord on the molded sheath, loop it on my belt and drop it in my pocket. I can retrieve it with one hand. Works great!

Excellent whittler, Ron! :cool::thumbsup::cool:
Thanks Gary! :)

Thanks Harry! I believe these have Nickel Silver through out like the first run of NF Single Blade Barlow’s, Clip, Sheepfoot and Wharncliffe models. I would have to check my tube on the Lick Creek to see if it says STL. Good luck to you to my friend! :)

:D I believe ours came from the same mold, but then mine was given a sickly purple bruise dye-job. I win! :p

And thank you showing some beauty to cleanse the palate, so to speak. :) Here's some more.

I'm calling for a 'Steward's Enquiry'! Just look at this piece of junk! o_O :p ;) :D
