- great pic.......took me back years somehow, reminds me of a creature lying in wait!

I wanted a larger lockback in stainless with synthetic covers for the summer. I pressure wash decks and am, for the most part semi wet until fall:eek: I also have to put a fence up this summer so a robust lockback will be a plus. I haven't purchased an AG Russell knife in a looong time but was always impressed with past purchases. Still impressed today, f&f is stellar, centered and a SOLID thick blade, opens smooth as butter, brown Rucarta covers and a blade that locks up like a bank vault:thumbsup: Very impressive for the price. This will ride back pocket next to my leather clad field notes. The braided leather fob is perfect for extracting this somewhat thin brute.

That is a good looking knife!

I must have known very well what kind and size traditional knives I like, because this old suspended pocket sheath fits perfectly to my Otter. Or the other way round. :)

I must confess that lately I had a change of heart conserning what I want to carry and why. A slip joint with a stout spring and blade between 3-3,5 inches is the sweet spot. No need at this time for a locking blade, I choose a fixed blade for other purposes. As a normal carry this is just fine. Laquoiles and these Otters serve me well. Of course the GEC I will soon get is the pinnacle, wonder how much I will dare to use it?

By the way, I recommend trying something like this sheath. They are not difficult to make, you can modify a cheap nylon pouch for suspended carry if you like.

That knife checks a lot of boxes for me. Simple elegant pattern with a well ground blade. If only it had ebony scales....

For me a similar knife

I like the Lebanon area. I used to live 30 or 40 miles north of there, and my favorite stretch for smallmouth bass fishing on the Big Niangua is down that way. God's country.

That was in the '80s ~ I'm not sure if Shepherd Of The Hills outlet store was there then. Our trips to Lebanon mostly centered on getting fencing, feed, and miscellaneous homestead stuff at Bill's Farm 'N Home with Grandpa in his old Ford Pickup. And I had my Schrade middleman jack and Schrade yellow trapper, and very little money, so I had no concept of buying a pretty pocket knife like your stag barlow to collect.
Thanks for triggering some good memories.

DUNLAP I ask Jim to help me save the stag covers from a very old Shapliegh Hardware jack that was found on my father in law's old family farm. Knife was trashed, but I really liked the old stag covers. There were pin cracks on both ends, but Jim was able to build me this barlow. Knife measures 3 1/4” I tossed it in my pocket today

Thank you Harry, it is a stainless steel, 8Cr15MoV, similar to Aus8. Takes an easy wicked sharp edge with fair retention. I work with solvents in my deck restoration business as well as water so a stainless or a stain resistant steel combined with resin based covers is a plus. I am so impressed that I ordered the smaller non locking gunstock:thumbsup::)
Great carries today Harry and wonderful picture:cool:

@SteveC Great knife and picture!
@Pt-Luso @Ace Rimmer Y'all make a great case for loving lovely Case knives. Thank you for sharing them.

paulhilborn paulhilborn Paul, that is a very gorgeous knife that I did NOT need to see, but thanks anyway. (I'll send you the bill.)

Old Engineer Old Engineer Harry, those are great pics of that Woodie pair. Thanks so much. Please pass my appreciation on to your thoughtful daughter. I'm impressed by her observation and indebted to her, too.

That's a good looking knife, Paul. I have a couple of AG Russell's similar (but smaller) medium lockback Barlows, and the quality is impressive, especially for the price. You sharpen using the Work Sharp, right? How does that handle a knife with little bit of recurve like that one?

Carried this #78 for the first time today. Reusing this photo from the Beverage and Blades thread, 'cause it's the only one I took today.

Thanks Barrett, it's tricky but very manageable once I figured it out:) I use the very edge of the belt and have honed (pun intended) my skills on the Orchard Gem/Lick Creek 38 pruners:thumbsup: Nice knife and picture buddy:cool:

Thanks for the patina report, FBC. :) Your Guardians Lambsfoot is looking ravishing!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Rats!! I forgot to post some of my own carries.

Euro Knife of the Week is a curly birch knife my daughter bought for me in Toledo, Spain. (It was also my "free choice" knife last week, showing lack of foresight on my part.)

Thanks, Gary. I have babied this Guardian's Lambsfoot so far. I will eventually get over it and put her to work. :D
Your knives and pics are both looking really good.

Haha, I think the most dangerous thing I do with these knives is set them up for pics.
Your Guardian's Lambsfoot is looking rather dapper, good sir.

The Stag Jack is riding along with me today.

Three questions for you, Jambon Jambon . :)
What are the covers on your slimline trapper?
What is that inscribed rock all about?
Was your dog with you when you took this photo?
Hi 5k Q 's. The covers are jigged delrin. Inexpensive, light and practical. The kind of covers that can go to work. The stone just appeared one day in the woods. Who knows how it got there? The dog with me? The Pope is Catholic and the bears....in the woods.
