The 79 Workhorse Whittler is an excellent pattern. Stout and slim they are one of my personal favorites.View attachment 901507 I haven’t carried this 79 in a while.
Actually thought it was lost till I found it in a box a couple weeks ago.
These are great sized patterns.
I like a punch blade too, and with smooth bone and keystone shield, it's a winner! I bought one on the exchange here a few years ago while waiting for the 2016 Traditional Forum Knife; GEC's "Drover" is a single-spring, spear and punch harness knife built on the #35 frame, probably the closest to the Schatt & Morgan.View attachment 901540 View attachment 901520 View attachment 901521
I would be very interested to hear what Queen knife collectors and fans of Harness Jack patterns think about this knife.
I missed out on Charlie’s @waynorth 77 Washington Jack harness punch in the 77 pattern. I really like the looks of that knife. I find a punch to be just as useful as an additional blade, maybe more useful. At the same time, I have been looking to add an older Queen knife to my small collection. I was able to locate this brand new, old stock, 2009 Schatt & Morgan equal end cigar harness punch knife.
It reminds me quite a bit of the Washington Jack, but with the punch on the opposite end from the main blade. I actually prefer that. The springs are strong which I like on a punch. The fit and finish is not bad at all; very close to GEC quality. However, I cannot tell if it is supposed to have a half stop. If so, it is barely there.
If I am only going to keep one Queen knife, this is probably not a bad one to have I guess.
Leslie, I too find a punch quite useful as an secondary blade especially with a spear main, so HJ's (and alox SAKs) work well for me. This smooth amber bone HJ is an good example of some of Queen's finer work, top notch F&F and a solid build from quality steel. It is somewhat wider than it needs to be for the blades to fit properly but it's that same width that makes it so comfortable in hand. Although... with Queen now gone this one probably won't see much work. Instead it will likely be set aside as something special from Queen for me to enjoy and possibly admired by future knife folk. So because of that I kinda hope you take yours and... use the stuff out of it!View attachment 901540 View attachment 901520 View attachment 901521
