What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Nice of your best man to give you a hand of congratulations on the marriage (literally!). I'll add my congrats not only for the marriage, but also for your choice of liquid refreshment. It's still morning here on the other side, but I'll likely join you this evening in relaxing with a dubbel or tripel.

Used the ebony White Owl earlier this morning to break down the box in which the mower parts I used yesterday for necessary repairs prior to yard work were delivered. I think this one will push the Peanut out of my pocket for today.

You just made me want a White Owl!

Glad to be of service!

I usually prefer a clip blade to a spear since I already have several spear blades in various Victorinox knives. However, I really liked the black/brown variation of the ebony on this one.

The size is very comfortable, and as Sam noted, it is a very classic design. I am pleased. Now I am tempted to get one with a clip blade in either snakewood or primitive bone.

Also known as 'Tiger Stripe' Ebony. I have a Martin guitar with a tiger stripe ebony fretboard. Lovely stuff.

I'm toting the Buck 55 lockback today, for this eventful day of trips to the doctor. Kate and I are getting our check-ups after getting our new daughters' the other day.

Until recently, when I was finally able to see some good pictures of various knives, I had been wondering what ebony they were using, since most of it does not look like gaboon ebony. It may be called tiger stripe ebony in some circles, but it is better known as macassar ebony, diospyros celebica. I really like macassar, it is a beautiful wood. There are a few species of ebony that look like this, but the vast majority that is used and sold is macassar.

Gary- I like it a lot! The damascus is easy to keep sharp with a leather strop, the spring is tight and snappy. I use it for carving duty, and it's a real pleasure to look at.
