What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I'm totin' this pair for Twosday: a Queen model 28 large Farmer's Knife and a Queen model 51 Dogleg Jack, both from 1958-1960.

Good looking pair Stuart! I have the one on top but it’s way beat up.

Have this one in the pocket today that I found at a flea market almost 10 years ago. It had quite a few rust spots, was really gunky and had barely any snap but the blades didn’t have much wear to it. I finally decided to clean it up, and forced a patina on it. Now it’s walking and talking and I think it looks decent. Looked at the covers under a loupe and see some woody looking grains but I still don’t know if they are wood or some man-made material.

Actually, Nick, that looks like it would make a perfect edc :thumbsup:

Lambsfoot again today! Hope y’all have a good one!

Good choice Joshua ;)

Interesting mix of textures on that stick, Jack Black Jack Black .

Thanks my friend, I'm not sure what the wood is. Assay marks on the silver collar date it to 1847

A Winchester and Wright’s for me today. :)

Lovely pairing Ron

Got two otters...

I thought that was going to be the start of a maths problem! Great-looking knife though :)

Great looking pair, especially the Ebony LF ! Hope your back gets better soon  I know all about back pain, no fun. :(

Thanks a lot Steve, much appreciated  Rotten isn't it? :(

Cpould be, sounds good. And that OT looks really good, Darren.

Thanks, Nick. The 28 has a blemish between the nail nick and bade tip from a small rust bloom. I think opining in my post yesterday that Queen Steel was very resilient may have jinxed me. Oh, well, the other blades survived, so there's that. You Kutmaster looks fabulous (faux mammoth) and congrats on saving another old working knife.

@Half/Stop I forgot to mention your dazzling duo this Twosday, especially that winsome Winchester. I hope that you are feeling better.

D Duckdog Thanks for the info Stuart! It’s nice to rescue old mistreated knives. This one has some blade play and gaps that you can see the world through them so I won’t be shy to use it.

dc50 dc50 Thank you! And yes I think it’s a good edc too.

The local orchard just started picking Paula Reds this week. Nothing like a just picked apple.
Edited to add: In a side by side apple slicing test my Laguiole, with it's thin flat ground blade, is a much better apple knife.

The Hay'n Helper looks like my kind of knife ~ made for work. And yet they made it handsome as well..
Nice bunch of parsley. Dontcha love this time of year with all the fresh stuff you can eat right out your back door?
I love the Hayn Helper! The two-blade is quite a chunk, but I love two-blades! And yes, this is a great time of year, and I’ve got to get some corn for tonight!

I've been looking at those Otter spearpoints for some time now, what's your opinion on them? I like the look of those large rivets.
So do I :D
Small initial impressions/review:
I got the "Drei Nieten Messer" #169 ('Three Rivet Knife') and the "Weber Messer" ('Weaver Knife') #180.
Let me start with the Weaver:
Materials are Sapeli wood scales with a C75 blade and steel bolsters, liners and pins.
Really light(3-4?) and rather rough pull(no hangups on closing though) to the half-stop and 5-6 pull into open position. Indexing at half stop is rather sluggish. The grinds on the main bevel aren't perfectly even, factory sharpness was good and secondary bevel was good, with a centered blade. The tip was not really nice from factory. Plunges were beautiful. All around no gaps, liners a bit sharp on the inside. Pins are flush, bolsters can be felt. Spring is flush in open and closed position, at half stop it stands a bit proud (pretty much exactly like GECs). The Sapeli wood is finished so that is remains some grip while still having some shine. The Steel parts are all satin finished, the blade has got quite a bit of shine to it.
What I changed is sharpening, filed a sharpening notch and rounded the insides of the liners. Also worked some froglube into the pivot(maybe I should clean it to get rid of the grittiness)
So overall it's definetly not GEC finish but it clocks in at 0.3 times the price and is advertised as a working knife, so I wasn't expecting GEC finish. If you're looking for a slightly swaybackish wharncliff this knife isn't too shabby :D

Now to the 3-Rivet Knife:
The Materials are smoked oak scales with blade and hardware being the same as the weaver.
First off it's quite a lot bigger than I expected (pretty much the same size as the #43) :D

Overall fit and finish is good (not GEC, but again only 0.5 times the price); everything is flush(can't feel the bolsters and pins), apart from the insides of the liners (and the edge of the blade :D) there are no sharp edges. The satin on the steel parts is flawless, the blade has the same shining satin as the mercator knives (and the weaver for that matter) (it really is a special look). The blade opens very smoothly with a pull right around 6 with no halfstop, but isn't centered. Walk and talk are nice. The tip grind was strange from the factory

but the main bevels are better than some GECs I have.

What I changed was sharpening, making the sharpening notch bigger, lubing the pivot and putting a chamfer on the inside of the liners. Overall I can absolutely recommend this knife.

On the endnote: both knives are pinchable.

I have pictures to go with all of this but imgur is down for maintenance atm so I'll edit them in later (if I think about it)

EDIT: Pictures are there now :D
