What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I have close to 15 pages to get caught up on here in this thread. I am sure you all have been sporting some terrific knives and I'll allow myself some time to enjoy them here soon. In the meantime, I have these two with me today.

Turn that wonderful knife on the left on it's side (horizontal) Dylan and it will mirror your picture behind the knives:cool: Nice duo today:thumbsup:

Great looking knife, but I thought I would never have to look at math problems again. Hope I don't have nightmares!
Sorry. I'm sure it gives some of my students nightmares too. I love math, it makes people cry :)

8) -5 ;
9) d = -3 ;
10) t = -1 ;
11) a = 5 ;
12) n = -2;
13) x = 1/2;
14) z = -6;
Great knife! :thumbsup::)
Sorry, you didn't show your work. Lol

Carrying light today :) Old Timer Tuesday? Is that a thing?

Is it a thing? Don't know, but it is now :)

Apparently if you need help with math homework you just post it in the background of a traditional knife image
Lol. I think everybody just loves math. Right?

Cool pic Dean :) :thumbsup:

Thank you, Jack. Funny thing: When I took that pic I thought, "this looks like a photo Jack would take." :)

Pleasing photo of your TC with the distinctive coloration, Dean! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

For the second week in a row, I have a surprising (to me) number of Case knives on my schedule.
As always, I have this chestnut jigged bone SBJr (from a BigBiscuit GAW):

Thank you for the knife compliment :)

An excellent carry of Cases, Gary!

Disappointed to wake up with my back still sore today, and after our three-day weekend a four day week always throws me. Weather is pretty miserable too :( Thought I'd treat myself ;) :thumbsup:

I'm sad to hear your back is still sore, Jack. :( Hopefully, your many lambsfoot knives will provide some joy!

So do I :D
Small initial impressions/review:
I got the "Drei Nieten Messer" #169 ('Three Rivet Knife') and the "Weber Messer" ('Weaver Knife') #180.
Let me start with the Weaver:
Materials are Sapeli wood scales with a C75 blade and steel bolsters, liners and pins.
Really light(3-4?) and rather rough pull(no hangups on closing though) to the half-stop and 5-6 pull into open position. Indexing at half stop is rather sluggish. The grinds on the main bevel aren't perfectly even, factory sharpness was good and secondary bevel was good, with a centered blade. The tip was not really nice from factory. Plunges were beautiful. All around no gaps, liners a bit sharp on the inside. Pins are flush, bolsters can be felt. Spring is flush in open and closed position, at half stop it stands a bit proud (pretty much exactly like GECs). The Sapeli wood is finished so that is remains some grip while still having some shine. The Steel parts are all satin finished, the blade has got quite a bit of shine to it.
What I changed is sharpening, filed a sharpening notch and rounded the insides of the liners. Also worked some froglube into the pivot(maybe I should clean it to get rid of the grittiness)
So overall it's definetly not GEC finish but it clocks in at 0.3 times the price and is advertised as a working knife, so I wasn't expecting GEC finish. If you're looking for a slightly swaybackish wharncliff this knife isn't too shabby :D

Now to the 3-Rivet Knife:
The Materials are smoked oak scales with blade and hardware being the same as the weaver.
First off it's quite a lot bigger than I expected (pretty much the same size as the #43) :D
qX5EpDX.jpg

Overall fit and finish is good (not GEC, but again only 0.5 times the price); everything is flush(can't feel the bolsters and pins), apart from the insides of the liners (and the edge of the blade :D) there are no sharp edges. The satin on the steel parts is flawless, the blade has the same shining satin as the mercator knives (and the weaver for that matter) (it really is a special look). The blade opens very smoothly with a pull right around 6 with no halfstop, but isn't centered. Walk and talk are nice. The tip grind was strange from the factory

but the main bevels are better than some GECs I have.

What I changed was sharpening, making the sharpening notch bigger, lubing the pivot and putting a chamfer on the inside of the liners. Overall I can absolutely recommend this knife.

On the endnote: both knives are pinchable.

I have pictures to go with all of this but imgur is down for maintenance atm so I'll edit them in later (if I think about it)

EDIT: Pictures are there now :D

Aw man, I'm liking that Wharncliffe too. I'm a sucker for swayback/pruner handles. My list is growing too long now :D

Good review, thanks!

Was just going through old pictures last night and come across this Northfield 73 in Stag so I decided to carry it today in a slip , as always , for old times sake . This is the knife that cemented my like for GEC and Stag . These are the first pictures that I ever took of this favorite in 2115 . This knife is also made of Unobtainium .

Great looking pair, especially the Ebony LF ! Hope your back gets better soon :thumbsup: I know all about back pain, no fun. :(

Another sweet pair, I really love the look of those Short Ebony Lambsfoot knives. I wish we had better access to them over here in the states.
Thanks for the compliments! :)

Lovely pairing Ron :thumbsup:
Thank you sir! :)

Half/Stop Half/Stop I forgot to mention your dazzling duo this Twosday, especially that winsome Winchester. I hope that you are feeling better.
Thanks Stuart! Long live the Queen! Nice pair there today! :)

LOL! :D Thanks my friend :) :thumbsup:

Two knives today, my avatar TC and a Case teardrop.

Very nice indeed Dean :) :thumbsup:

Definitely a classy Clerk, Ron! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

With a knife like that, whenever you carry it must be like a vacation!! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

Another vibrant vintage stockman! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

That EO teardrop is a very attractive knife! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks for the tip(s), Nick! :thumbsup::thumbsup:;)

Thanks, Stuart. :)

Premier pair, FBC!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: Is the lower one one of your German stag whittlers?

IMHO, that's almost an ideal stockman! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: (I don't like the exposed tip on the sheepsfoot.)

What a couple of vibrant, colorful knives, Harry! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

I noticed that; hope springs eternal! ;):thumbsup:

Thanks for the canoe compliment, Jeff, and for confirmation on the musical stuff (about which I know almost nothing). :)

The power of suggestion! ;):cool:

:D I'm pretty easy to please, actually. :thumbsup:

Thanks, Stuart; the mini copperlock is the one I actually settled on for this week. :)

Thanks, Jack. :)
By coincidence, my schedule this week has me carrying an Okapi identical to yours as my International Knife of the Week. :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Couple of classic curvaceous knives, Ron! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: I hope your plant reaction isn't too bad and you'll be back to 100% ASAP. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Nice RR peanut, John! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: It's about time for my Labor Day buying spree, and I'm likely to order my first RR peanut (in amber jigged bone) and at least one of the RR yellow-handled carbon steel folders (probably canoe and sowbelly). :)

Things go better with Coke!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Pleasing photo of your TC with the distinctive coloration, Dean! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Champion Calf-Roper, Ken! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Love the color on that copperlock! Very handsom knife. :thumbsup:

Thank you, I’m a sucker for tip bolsters!

In my pocket today,
That’s a beauty you have there. Perfect clip point, and that jigging makes me drool. :cool:

I’ve got this guy today.

Thanks for the compliments! :)

Unobtainium! :eek: Harry, I don't know anyone in their right mind that would want that ugly thing!!! ;) :eek: :D But, you can will it to me! :thumbsup:

I just knew I could count on a very good friend to come up with a solution on what to do with some really ugly Stag . This one however will be going to my Son .
Thank you for the kind offer .

Have this one in the pocket today that I found at a flea market almost 10 years ago. It had quite a few rust spots, was really gunky and had barely any snap but the blades didn’t have much wear to it. I finally decided to clean it up, and forced a patina on it. Now it’s walking and talking and I think it looks decent. Looked at the covers under a loupe and see some woody looking grains but I still don’t know if they are wood or some man-made material.
If it melts, it’s not wood!:D
Hey that’s a beauty and well worth the restoration.
Lightly peen the hinge pin to get rid of that blade play.

More 44 Stag goodness today!
I usually will carry the same knife all week and don’t post pics of the same knife a day later, but I’m breaking my own rules here because I love this knife!
I patiently awaited the stag covers and this is my only purchase from the run of Buffalo Jacks. IMO, Great Eastern knocked this one out of the park!
