What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Boy, y'all are rolling out some wonderful wood for Woodsday. I had to go out back to one of the woodpiles to gather in a bundle to pick out something to carry today.

I picked this OVB (Hibbard Spencer Bartlett, 1884-1960) hunter to tote with me this afternoon when some of my buddies get together for cold beverages. I like to bring a knife along that will spark a conversation and this one should get them yakking. For my regular use during the day, I grabbed an Empire jack (1856-1930) that will ride easier in my pocket and can get most anything done that I'll need today.

That is some good wood. That OVB Hunter looks to be especially large. I'd love to carry that if I was headed out in the woods. Nowadays it's just city parks and beaches.

Stuart my friend you have an exceptional wood pile!!!  :D

D Duckdog Wow Stuart! Every single one is a beauty. Would love to see a group shot of your whole stash of knives. Your stepdad is a serious knife guy and you’re one lucky stepson!

Thanks, Nick. Yes, he was and, yes, I am. I'm not sure that I can get a group shot that would do them justice, though I may try some smaller groups ("piles") later. First, I need to get through unboxing and cataloging them. Been doing that for what seems like a month of Sundays already - every day there's something new to ID and catalog, then take a picture and post, and I'm slow at that. The folks on the Porch and in some other threads have been extremely helpful, and patient with my learning curve.

As much as I’d love to see the mother pile, I think I’ll rather get a daily dose of tease. I always look forward to see your knives everyday, you always have something cool or extra special. Yes I agree that we have a lot of knowledgeable folks on the porch here and most everything I’ve learned about folksy knives, is from folks here. Living in Los Angeles I don’t meet too many knife collectors and if I do they’re usually the tacticool guys. Thank you everyone for keeping it folksy!

Weekend getaway to Hocking Hills and this was waiting in the mailbox when I got home!
Cleopatra's Clever Clavicles! Congrats on the stag stockman, Ken!:cool::thumbsup:

... I have to replace a valve cartridge in the water control for our master bathroom shower and these two have already helped remove the silicone caulk around the escutcheon and stop tube and the Phillips head screws on the escutcheon and the handle adapter. Well, that was the easy part; I see frustration. anger, and sadness looming in this project. I should be finished around beer-thirty this afternoon.

That Cadet is a capital choice, GT. I like the Explorer, but have never found scissors useful on a pocket knife though many do - and I sew. Maybe it's the size of knife scissors, but whatever I need to cut with those size scissors, I can do with the spear or pen. I used the reamer/punch on my Cellidor Tinker more than I've needed scissors. Regardless, that Explorer is a handsome handful.

Thank you GT. Love the Swiss rigs!
Iris's Incandescent Irises! Thanks for the commentary on SAK tools, Stuart & Dwight, and for your compliment, Tom. :)

My 70th, this next Friday, was the loving cause for my three adult children, spouses, and five grandchildren to take my wife and I out to an early celebration. ... I’ll say 2 things. No Knife was hurt in the making of this image, and...”there’s no fool like an old fool.”:)

I had to go look in the cabinet in the garage. I used high gloss, marine grade polyurethane varnish from JC Penny. The little 1/2 pint can is probably 40 years old.

Glad to see that fetching colonial again!
Quincy's Queenly Quadriceps! Thanks for the varnish info and the Colonial props, Jeff! :)

Mine for today.

Ruby's Rosy Ribs! That AG Russell lockback pairs up well with everything, Tom!:thumbsup::cool:

A bit of emerald green for today.
Stella's Stout Stomach! Erin Go Bragh, Ken! ;):cool:

When I woke up this Twofer Twosday, it was raining felines and canines so I looked for a pair that I could safely carry in the damp (can't stay indoors any longer). I found these: a Case 054 lockback (1989) and a Bertram "Hen & Rooster" (1975-1980 while owned by A.G. Russell), both with brushed aluminum covers and stainless blades/springs. They are 3 1/8" and 3 1/4", respectively, and the Bertram is 1/8" thick.
