What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

View attachment 992240
These today, and probably the rest of the week as well. No Uncle Henry fixed blade, so all 3 folders lock! Really liking the 127, I been on the fence about a case in this style, but all I can find locally are 2 blade, and I really wanted a single. Plus the price of the case been holding me of some to. Finding this Schrade USA one was a real treat. Really like the LB7 to, while not quite as "elegant" as the 110, it feels more robust to me. And that's say'n something!
I love the Schrade folding hunters. Mine is a 2 blade Craftsman made by Schrade. It’s a lump in the pocket, but no big deal on the belt. FYI: there’s lots of sheaths for folding hunters on the auction site. I found a Queen sheath that fits mine.
This was an interesting experiment. I carried this Remington R5 today as my work team was volunteering at our area food bank (they do great work locally). The last time we did this was several years ago, and when I took out the knife I was carrying to break down some boxes (not enough box cutters to go around), a coworker gasped and asked why I had a “weapon”. I put it away and remarked “it is just a pocket knife” and moved on. The knife in question was a OHO.

This is a 3 inch lock back and very thin. We were opening boxes and packaging, and again not enough box cutters to go around. Someone asked to borrow the box cutter I was using, I said keep it as I was reaching into my pocket, and he said “you have a pocket knife? Great”. He wasn’t being sarcastic.

So I returned to the conveyor belt and continued to open boxes and packaging, but when I needed to take a box of food over to a pallet I left my knife on the conveyor belt (it wasn’t moving, we were just sorting cans and dry goods on it). People started using it without a thought, including our Chief Marketing Officer who remarked “That is nice, you must have been a Boy Scout”. I then got a little worried it was going to disappear :), but it was interesting to see their reaction to a traditional as opposed to the modern I used before. Not sure if it was the OHO itself, the size, or me opening it one-handed, but this little guy received either compliments or no reaction at all.

People are funny. Especially non-knife people. “Weapon? No, Mrs. McGillicuddy, the weapon is between my ears. This is a tool.”

That is a very attractive 66, Jason. One of those "Wow" kind of knives.:thumbsup:

Just a "word to the wise": based on my experience, one chestnut bone knife is not enough! I think I'm up to 6 chestnut jigged bone CV patterns from Case at this point.

I’m trying to take the edge off the urge for more chestnut bone by carrying this today. Also, congratulations on retirement!:thumbsup::cool: I too hope to be retired some day.

Tabasco is a staple in my house. Used some on my eggs this morning! May use a different Louisiana hot sauce tonight--having red beans and rice. (We usually have at least a dozen different hot sauces around, as well as fresh peppers, like jalapeños and chiltepines). Life needs spice!
Louisana hot sauce will put some nice color on a carbon steel blade too.

Just landed today, kicked the smaller Boker stockman out of the pocket already, she's a beaut !

Böker makes some fine knives, and this is no exception.

OT, but what Pelikan model is that? I have never seen one of those.

Today it is my favorite (and only) Polish knife:

Like this knife, not crazy about the handle but the overall shape is cool. Any more Polish knives out there? Or what traditional Polish style knives are there? Area of knife manufacture like a Solingen, or
Sheffield? Just checking out their site, interesting.

Enjoy your retirement from full- time teaching, Gary! As long as you have hobbies, interests, or just things you like to do, you will be busier than when you were working.

Josh, Dwight, Steve, Jeff, Spaten, thanks for the kind/wise well-wishes to help me celebrate my "new chapter" in life! :):thumbsup:

As much as I like Alox, GT, that Pocket Pal is pretty nifty looking. Sometimes simple is enough.

Thanks, Stuart. :) I think that Pocket Pal would perennially be practically perfect for a "normal" person.

... I found these two, still laid next to each other since I last carried them almost a year ago. When I posted them then, I became the beneficiary of some excellent research found by 5K Qs 5K Qs as to the maker of the Liberty Bell knife. ...

Edited to add the link that GT found which provides a fascinating discourse on commemorative knives, in general, and the Liberty Bell LB-1, in particular: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/schrade-walden-liberty-bell-lb-1-a-significant-knife.513980
