What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

A recent kind comment and an inquiry from Will Power Will Power prompted my decision to tote a lighter load today, hence this Queen 15 half congress from 1949-1958 period. At 3 1/2" with a single spring, it's light and lithe.

As you can see from the pictures, the weather has turned very pleasant here, so I'm alternately watching football and splitting firewood.

And very nice indeed Stuart:cool:

Those tangs seem to sit low and who in their right mind can gainsay Winterbottom Bone?;):D

Totin’ the 44, Gunstock today. Sorry about the dark, indoor picture. It’s a rainy, dreary, day here. So I’ll just be watching football, and dropping by the porch occasionally. These 44s are pretty beefy little knives. I’ve only had mine for a couple of weeks, but I really like it . A2B9C33B-8843-4318-B60B-550150923212.jpeg

A Churchill and a Cadet covers a LOT of bases.

True fact, Jeff!:thumbsup: That's a VERY competent, covetable pair!:cool:

Beautiful bone on that swayback, Gary! Great color, and jigging, with a perfect patina!
Thanks, Lance. :)

So everybody talks about knives for watch pockets, usually accompanied by a pic of a peanut or similar, I scratch my head and think "They must have tiny pockets, or sumthin" ...
Tractor Supply's Schmidt brand canvas carpenter pants, every bit as good as carhart imo, and quite a bit less expensive. ...
I KNEW those pants looked familiar! I have a pair of Schmidt carpenter pants and think they're excellent!:cool::thumbsup: I also have a pair of Dickies canvas carpenter pants that I really like, but the watch pocket isn't as big as on the Schmidt. (The Dickies do have an additional "leg pocket" below the hammer loop on the left leg, which is a great feature. ;)

By placing the knives vertically in the watch pocket, you certainly maximize storage space, David!:thumbsup: But what I wonder about is whether you can get your hand past the knives to access the contents of the "regular" pocket; that's where I sometimes run into trouble with the pockets on some pants. :(

Your picture of a Swayback Jack made me realize what an idiot I can be. I have one much like it, and I like it very very much. When Case discontinued production of the model, I found myself hardly ever carrying it, because I knew it couldn't be easily replaced. I realized that since I'm carrying a 130-140 year old mother-of-pearl knife by an obscure maker (Peters Cutlery of Solingen-Merscheid) with hardly a concern, I should go ahead and pull the SBJ out of the drawer.
They are both in my pocket today. :)

I'm glad I could stimulate some thinking, and some bold action, @r8shell ! ;):cool: That's a pair for you to carry with pride!
Actually, I wonder if my "every knife should be carried" philosophy is due to my coming back to pocket knives relatively late in life. I'll bet I might have a more cautious approach to carrying rare or expensive knives if I had started collecting knives at 32 or 42 instead of at 62. No use NOW in my being extra careful and risk averse so I can enjoy my knives in my old age - I'm already there! :D:cool::thumbsup:

It's weird how we make decisions on our carry patterns. ...
These jigged chestnut bone CV SBJs make us do strange things. o_O ...
If we were logical about it, we'd just pick one knife and use it every day. Where's the fun in that? ;)
...
I hear you, Alan & Ace & Rachel! I think the part of my life least influenced by logic is my "knife life".:cool:

Gary, you have a quietly, quality knife there! Queen made some great ebony and cocobolo jacks.

I agree on it being Photobucket (aka @^%$#!). No access for about 24 hours!
...
I like the look of the two-bladed SBJ!:thumbsup:
...
I just got an SBJ in chestnut, but I guess they don't make those two bladed anymore. I'll bet it is more substantial in hand.
Thanks for the S&M and SBJ comments, Dean, and for the Photobucket confirmation. :)

Something about the covers on this 1974 Case 85 physician's knife said "aftermarket modification". ...Still, with Case's brief re-introduction of the 85s, it's a fun conversation piece to carry....

That's a sexy Solingen stag stockman, G2!! :cool::cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hope everyone is having a good weekend :) My two today, my Ashley's Choice Lambsfoot and a Vic Electrician

Hope to catch up a bit more tomorrow
Superlative pair, Jack!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Stag and Alox are probably the covers I admire most.

Today I am carrying a couple of Case red shield knives.

I'm a big fan of the red Case shields, Dean.:thumbsup::cool: Your mini copperhead "on the rocks" is intoxicating! Is the copperlock a full-size or a mini? Does it have a blade coating of some kind?

Beautiful knife in your pics, Mark!:cool::thumbsup: The funky fungi are fascinating, but scary!:rolleyes:

Scarlet and Gray Saturday - go Buckeyes!
Looks like the 25-26 combo worked like a charm for OSU, Ken! ;):cool:

Edit to show some Saturday Stag content. Duh! I hate it when I do that! :D

Congrats, Darren; that's a superb knife! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

A new old one for me today. I like old penknives as you guys can tell I’m sure.
That Ewok pen knife is sensational, Nick!! Beguiling bone!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Of course I am carrying some Stag today while cleaning up the garage and cracking some Hickory Nuts . Nancy makes some great cookies with the nut meat in them . We have about 5 Gallon more to crack . Northfield 73 in Stag and Taylors Eye Witness Lambfoot . Two of my favorite knives .
...

Harry
Those knives are NUTS, Harry! ;):thumbsup: I can see why they're a couple of your favorites! The stag 73s have moved my needle for the past 3 years, I think.

Lambsfoot Knife of the Week for me since last Monday is this Wright stag senator pattern (thanks for the GAW, @R.c.s ):

Thanks Gary! Usually I don't have to much trouble getting to the main pocket. Depends on brands. The Schmidt ones are good. I actually looked at some dickies today at wallyworld but they didn't have the color I wanted in my size. Your carry choices are as usual superb this week. Really liking the senator pattern labsfoot, as it stands out from the handle shapes usually found with a labsfoot to me. Plus the stag is awsome;)

Queen Barehead in ACSB and D2.

Beautiful knife, Will.

Yep, that's the ticket, Steve.

Today's carry: a 1973 Case Whittler. A good friend gave me this knife almost 25 years ago. It was carried in rain, hail, sleet, and snow, thus the pitting.

An honest knife.

It’s a Case 62032 Texas Jack with Chestnut Jigged Bone and CV for me today! It’s a simple but fully capable knife.

That's a beauty, Ron, and I, too, strive to be "simple but fully capable".

Old reliable. Looks good.

I strive for both of those goals, too. A handsome knife, Alan.

2016 Yellow bone 14 with Spear and Pen.

I often favor old knives, Paul, but that's a gorgeous young 'un, right there.

Because 2 pens are better than 1

Well, those two are beeter than most, for sure, Nick.

I fancied up a little bit for Sunday.

Boy, did you. Good picture of a fine looking knife, Jeff.

And a knife to keep it on topic!

Both knives hit the high notes! BTW, are those three separate systems or are they integrated?

And very nice indeed Stuart:cool:

Those tangs seem to sit low and who in their right mind can gainsay Winterbottom Bone?;):D

Thanks, Will. I had forgotten about the smaller Queens when I pulled out the new pile from a newly opened old box until you mentioned a single spring pen. I'll try to carry and post more of the smalls, as I dig through and post the newest lot.

This Sarganis small fixed blade, blade length is just 2 1/2" long but packs a lot of cutting power in that blade

A very fine fixed blade, Gary. I'd hunt with that anytime.

Cool knife, Stuart, and the associated mystery has me channeling Bugs with, "What's up, Doc?":cool:;)

Lambsfoot Knife of the Week for me since last Monday is this Wright stag senator pattern

Thanks, GT. I think the pattern number clinched it for me. That beautiful foot o'lamb you are totin' clinches a lot of desirable features in one package. Congrats!

Thank you for your kind comments, Gary! The copperlock is a mini and the blade coating is black PVD. It is good to see your 2/4 literal EDCs again!

Carrying these two today. The Barlow is my project knife for this week. When the spearpoint version first arrived, I wanted the edge to be a little thinner, so I used a belt sander to thin it down, and sharpened it. It was successful but not to the degree I liked. I am going to try to be more patient with this clip point and use my wicked edge. The scout is a Winchester in “French ivory” :).

That Ewok pen knife is sensational, Nick!! Beguiling bone!:cool::cool::thumbsup:
Thanks GT, it’s very rare Ewok bone!:)
I always liked the shadow buster and yours is a nice one.

Well, those two are beeter than most, for sure, Nick.
Thank you Stuart. Your Queen half congress is real purdy and it’s making me want to click the “buy it now” button on one I found online a while back but I’m doing good resisting the temptation.

It's Oddball Saturday, again. :p

I just took a walk around the neighborhood, and a visitor posed for a picture with my oddball knife of the week.

My morning coffee knife. I decided that I will not limit myself to one knife today so I may switch knives as I feel the need....ahhhh life is good. :D
