What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

One of my favorites-from-a-distance landed in my mailbox..

EWdKS83.jpg

I finally get to give the Fayette Jack a chance! Fills my hand very well, I really love the frame. I had a feeling I would, but you never really know until you get to try it. Sorry for the poor picture, it’s a cold rainy day here in Pennsylvania.

I woke to a gray sky and intermittent rain and have a buddy's funeral to attend at Arlington National Cemetery this afternoon, so I picked a totin' pair to brighten the day. He was a retired U.S. Navy Medical Corpsman who graduated SEAL Team 1 with a mutual friend of mine and they both served a couple of tours in Vietnam together. His widow is a retired Navy captain and I look forward to raising a glass in his honor with her at the "O" Club on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall afterwards.

I am deer hunting with my family this weekend, it is supposed to snow today so tomorrow might be very good. Carrying these two, which are actually far more likely to see kitchen duty and open beverages than to perform any hunting related tasks :).

I had one of those Benchmades some time back and miss it. Never should have sold that one. What is the model name again?

That is a gorgeous photo of a beautiful knife! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks guys!

D Duckdog Stuart sorry to hear about your friend. I lost my mother and a friend not too long ago and what I’ve learnt is to appreciate life, do what we love and spend time with loved ones and people we care about. The beautiful pair you’re toting today I’m sure will help brighten up your day. The red bone on the CSC is just awesome. Life is short so let’s keep enjoying our knives!

:thumbsup::thumbsup: It was fun for me, Mark! :)

Beautiful brace of Barlows, Dee! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: A one-arm for each arm! ;)

Both lambsfoot and loaf are aces, @Dschal ! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

3 fine knives, Jeff; that Camco horn re-cover is remarkable! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks, Dean. :)

Captivating teardrop! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Thanks for the updates, Shawn. :)

Dylan, Gev, Dwight, Dean, & Stuart, I appreciate your honoring my knives, especially the humpback stockman, with your attention! :) That humpback has nearly-sunk joints, and the spear main is a real draw for me. :cool::thumbsup:;)
Dean, I might be carrying more knives now since I added a second canoe to my weekly rotation (plus I'm often carrying a couple of "free choice" knives each week in addition to my prescribed schedule). Working less so I have more time available to admire the knives I carry, right? :D

Dramatic pic of a dandy Forum knife, Spaten Spaten ! :cool::cool::thumbsup: Is there a story with the watch under glass?

That knife is certainly one of the best, @Âchillepattada! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Exquisite knife, Will! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

First-class sodbuster, Dave; I don't think I've ever seen one from Böker before! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

What a grand trio of old cross Pioneers, Senhor Pinto! :thumbsup::):thumbsup:

Incredible pair, Tom; I REALLY like that SBJr! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Wow, Stuart! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: As usual, you put the hammer down with your selection!

You always have such lovely pairs of knives! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Jaw-dropping pair, Alan! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for sharing the story about that knife, Ken! :thumbsup::):thumbsup:

That's a unique attention-grabber, Dwight!! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Thanks for the bonus info on the Brantford, Nick. :) Thanks for the canoe compliments, Nick & Stuart. :thumbsup::)

Dave, you have more confidence in my ability than I do! :p I'm counting on a commercial kit making up for my total lack of artistry. :thumbsup::D

:thumbsup::thumbsup::)

:thumbsup::):thumbsup:

That PAL looks like a fine old friend indeed, Harry! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Speaking of anatomy..... they seem to cost you an arm & a leg nowadays. :p:D

Excellent carries for this week!! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

First wintry day in South Louisiana. It's 53 and rainy. About a typical winter day lol. Daddy is celebrating. Looks like I'm well on track to retire in 11 years, and in better shape than I thought. Plus all 5 kids coming for dinner so I'm having a couple crown and cokes, cooking a big pastalya and enjoying the cold (for here) blast.

No, not Dylan. Procul Harum. :D
:D:D Well-played, @WoodManGM ! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

That's an appealing Sodbuster! :cool::cool::thumbsup: But what the heck is it setting on, and inverted brain?? :confused:

I'm going fishing on the Chesapeake Bay tomorrow .... A cigar cutting (and bottle opening) knife and a fish cutting knife should be sufficient.

Thanks GT! Nice carries, looks like the Joker is developing a fine patina :thumbsup:

These two for me this Thursday, which is my Friday for the work week :).

B0lF3tV.jpg
Thanks, Tom; I actually experimented with mustard to form a monogram patina on the Joker. :rolleyes: Are the white bone Northwoods gunstock and the Winchester coffin jack new acquisitions for you?? Nice!! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

An old Imperial...

View attachment 1017067 Today I had a GEC 26 and a 79.
My two upside down knives.
Those are exquisite knives, @willc!! :cool::thumbsup::cool: I've "evolved" to the opinion that those sleeveboards are the way a knife SHOULD be built - not at all upside down! ;):thumbsup:

I carried these on the trail today.

Orchard Gem in Antique Amber pick bone (an amazingly useful knife).

I've seen some folks posting knife photos with neat bugs so I found this one on the trail and snapped a shot with my EDC (Case Mini Copperhead).

Two (or three???) terrific trail companions, Dean! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Camillus #70 today

Capital knife, Steve! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

That's one of them Area 51 Alien Bugs. You're lucky to get away with your brains intact.

Thanks for your interesting comments, Mark. :) The T is for my last name, but it's not Terpstra (although I've known people with that name). I think my surname is an "occupational" one, ending with "ma" which I understand is quite common for Frisian names.
Splendid Böker stockman! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Harry
That Henckels stag Barlows has to be one of the nicest models out there, Harry! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Very fine, Taylor! :cool::cool::thumbsup: You're the Piano Man! :D

...
Thank you, Gary! More knives, more fun, right? That RR toothpick looks huge!
I think you're right, Dean. :) The toothpick is 5" closed - that's pretty big!

Thank you, GT- Today I will carry one I'm pretty sure you know. :)

Yes sir, I've seen Rough Rider's "work knife" before, but not that particular handle; it's a beauty! :cool::thumbsup::cool: (I have an amber jigged bone model.)

Blood Red jigged bone TC Barlow.

Knife and sheath both sensational, Dean! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Still Weck’n it. Can’t stop, won’t stop!:)

Thanks GT! The watch belonged to my greatgrandfather. He carried it in his pocket everyday to his job at Elecrto-Motive. My greataunt gave it to me a few years ago before she passed. Unfortunately, it hasn’t run in decades, but it still looks quite handsome on my shelf. :D

Speaking of handsome, that’s a stupendous stag knife you have there! :thumbsup::cool: Did you pick it up in Spain?

Great pairing Ron :thumbsup:

Thanks GT! So you have Frisian ancestry! :cool: I couldn't help thinking the T in GT stands for Terpstra, a Frisian last name which is connected to the origin of Ferwert. The second element of Ferwert(h) means terp in old Frisian (Wikipedia knowledge :rolleyes:). Well the T probably revers to a second name and not your last and I don't expect you to disclose its meaning as I like a bit of privacy too, but couldn't help to share my immediate thoughts :rolleyes:

And no, I haven't been there, but have been close for several times :) Ferwert is close to Holwert, where the ferry to the popular holiday destination (island) Ameland departs.

I have a Frisian friend Mark, but he has lived in Amsterdam all the time I've known him, apart from a couple of periods in London, and in Rome. I used to tell mutual friends he would keep me awake singing Frisian drinking songs all night! :D :thumbsup:

Have these in my pockets on this snowy day on the way to coffee and breakfast .
