What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I woke to a gray sky and intermittent rain and have a buddy's funeral to attend at Arlington National Cemetery this afternoon, so I picked a totin' pair to brighten the day. ...

Stuart, I offer my condolences on your loss.

Terrific texture on those two, Tom!:thumbsup::cool:

... I lost my mother and a friend not too long ago and what I’ve learnt is to appreciate life, do what we love and spend time with loved ones and people we care about. ...
My sympathies, Nick, and thanks for sharing that lesson.:thumbsup:

That RR toothpick is pretty cool, and I quite like that little Imperial ;);)
Thanks. :) Hey, there's that tiny Imperial again!;)

...
Thanks Gary!
Speaking of anatomy..... they seem to cost you an arm & a leg nowadays. :p:D

Excellent carries for this week!!:thumbsup:

White Owl Today:

Wise and wonderful old bird! ;):cool:

First wintry day in South Louisiana. It's 53 and rainy. About a typical winter day lol. Daddy is celebrating. Looks like I'm well on track to retire in 11 years, and in better shape than I thought. Plus all 5 kids coming for dinner so I'm having a couple crown and cokes, cooking a big pastalya and enjoying the cold (for here) blast.

Sounds like you're living the dream, sir!:cool::thumbsup::)

5K Qs 5K Qs ~ I like that JJ Martinez. Is it Bullnose/Sodbuster Jr sized?

Appreciate the compliment on my horned Camco!
Thanks, Jeff; that Martinez is like a SBJr. I have that same model with wood covers in a pic with a chestnut jigged bone SBJr:

Thanks GT! The watch belonged to my greatgrandfather. He carried it in his pocket everyday to his job at Elecrto-Motive. My greataunt gave it to me a few years ago before she passed. Unfortunately, it hasn’t run in decades, but it still looks quite handsome on my shelf. :D

Speaking of handsome, that’s a stupendous stag knife you have there!:cool: Did you pick it up in Spain?
Thanks for the watch info; must be a cherished heirloom!:cool::thumbsup:
I found that stag Martinez on a Spanish website, then had my daughter (who was living in Madrid at the time) order it and bring it with her when she came for a visit to the USA one summer. (The wood handled one I bought in Granada, Spain when I went to visit my daughter.)

Dandy dark duo, Jeff; practically twins!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

No such thing as too much Sci Fi... But calling me "young" is pretty fantastical. :D

Switching to my Saturday carry, the stag Churchill.
...
Totin this Sambar Churchill today......:)
Jeff & Ron, you gents are living the high life with your stag Churchills!:cool::cool::thumbsup: Churchill the statesman purportedly said, "Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm."

Thanks, GT. I'm still savoring the shiny newness. :D

You and Ashley have made an appealing choice, Jack!;)

That's a dazzling red stag #54, Dave! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Pocket carrying my new Buck 112 today. Honestly, I didn’t even notice it in my pocket, rather than a belt sheath. It has pretty fat stag on the pile side, but still not an issue for me. View attachment 1017881
That's awesome, Lance; congrats! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Mine today, an old Thornton. We had a saying in the infantry, 'travel light, freeze at night', so antifreeze is essential!

I heartily agree! I just asked the local shop to try to get me one of the new pocket worn whiskey bone CV knives. It will be interesting to see how they compare.

I like them, too, Gary!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Beautiful examples you have.

As I mentioned in a post yesterday, I am scooting out of the house and into my truck to go deer hunting for a few days. As a result, I will not post for a bit (I can hear the sighs of relief.), will miss football today, and will miss the "11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" wreath laying ceremony at the American Legion post to which I belong. In honor of both Armistice Day and Veterans Day, I wanted to post a remembrance to someone whom I did not know.

I have an M1913 Patton Saber Hilt Section Knife with tang stamps: SA 1914, serial 9041, that my stepfather acquired somewhere. According to a hand-written inscription (and attached paper tag) on the leather sheath, it belonged to PVT W. H. Byers, ASN 33 747 193, L Co, 116th Infantry. My limited research shows this to be PFC William H. Byers, L Co, 3rd Bn, 116th Infantry Reg, 29th Infantry Division (the Blue & Gray). That unit suffered terrible casualties on June 6, 1944 during its assault on the west side of Omaha Beach as a part of Operation Overlord. The division’s historical society's records indicate that PVT Byers was brought into the unit as reinforcement on 25 July 1944, was promoted to PFC on 26 July 1944, and Killed In Action on 31 July, 1944. At that time, his unit was finishing its take-over of Saint-Lo', France and engaged in fierce fighting to take the town of Vire. Here are a couple of pictures of the knife and sheath:

Amen.

I worked for a watch guy who said you should wind a mechanical once a month to keep the oil from getting sticky or something.
There may be something to that. It probably needs a professional cleaning and oiling, but that would cost many times more than I paid for the thing.
