What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

bCHEpj7.jpg

Couldn't decide which, so like a true knife addict, I figured why not carry both? I reckon no one here will call me crazy...
 ONLY two knives!!? Are you crazy!!??;)

I only had 3:p Even though I don't often take a pic with it included, I always have a USA Schrade LB7 on the belt.;)

Here are some posts I selected to respond to last night, but then I went to bed instead. Little did I realize that events today would keep me from posting until now!:(

Thanks GT, asteroids isn't full size, it is a replica and about 4 feet tall, but it is very fun :). Really cool shield on the electrician's knife

These two for me today, Happy New Year!

Thanks for the Atari info, Tom. I've never really played video games on "home systems", but did stick a lot of quarters into arcade games around 1980 (mostly Donkey Kong, but also Space Invaders, Asteroids, and Missile Command - IIRC, the last 2 were way too challenging for my rudimentary skills). (One exception to my claim about not playing video games at home: my first computer was a Radio Shack Color Computer (using a color TV as monitor), and I bought a cassette tape version of Donkey Kong to play on it.)
Thanks for the RR Electrician comment; I, too, really like the advice on the shield. ;)
Your white pair could shed light throughout 2019!:cool::thumbsup:

That is a crazy cool knife GT. So many great things going on with the damascus, covers, shield, and fish etch.
Thanks, John. :) I really like the pattern, size, and bone :thumbsup:, and the blade etching is at least interesting!

5K Qs 5K Qs Thank you Gary. Have a happy new year.
You, too, Alan; thanks! :)

Good morning!
Hey, Gary. It's a Senator / equal-end pen knife, pattern 6279, 1 Dot. Just a little bit longer than a Peanut.

Great Stockman, and that Gunboat Canoe is wonderful! Don't think I can recall seeing a three blade Canoe.
Thanks for the Case ID, Dennis, and for your kind words about my knives. :) The 3-blade gunboat canoes are "out there", but often very pricey (I was even able to buy a 4-blade canoe from @black mamba ;)).

Woke up to -20°F wind chill to start off the year so I thought some Winterbottom Bone would be appropriate ;)

Could the sunshine and the knife make -20 seem toasty?? Beautiful knife, Steve!:thumbsup::cool:

Gary the Case Slimline is a great knife, versatile and inexpensive. Love the yellow CV, got to find me a good one.
Thanks, Jerry. :) I hope you can find a good one!

Happy New Year to you too, GT.
Can I ask, what makes the distinction between fancy canoe and plain canoe? That plain one has a lot going on!
Thanks Gary, it’s a handsome old Catt. You sure are starting 2019 fancy, even your plain canoe is fancy!

Case half congress today.
Thanks, Mark & Nick. :) Yeah, "plain" and "fancy" are probably not very accurate terms for how I divided my canoes. :( When I look at the two lists of canoes, it's quite obviously based on cost: maybe "under $20" and "over $40" are better labels (although I see all my stag canoes in the "fancy" column, regardless of cost).
Nick, thanks for the Catt info. :) Your half congress is exemplary!:thumbsup::cool:

Your Empire IS classy, Kevin, with the "beaded"(?) bolsters and shield. What's the writing in the bolster on the left?

Back to this Cattaraugus.

Completely covetable Catt, Mark!! :eek::cool::cool:

No sir; full size. :)
Thanks for the info, Vince. :) For some reason, I just can't get comfortable carrying a full size trapper, although I really like the mini trappers.

...
I wish each and everyone here a Happy Healthy New Year in 2019!!!

Thanks for the wish, and for posting another fantastic knife, Ron!:cool::cool:

Gary that was taken last February of 2018
Thanks, Dave. :) Literally wild!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Happy New Year Everyone !!!
Today I start the new year in great with a beautiful Portuguese knife...

Very enjoyable to see that knife with the little gentleman with a cane on the blade!:cool::thumbsup:

It's a fairly new acquisition, GT. GEC made a handful of Glitter Gold #78's for this year's Rendezvous. Apparently they were so unpopular that there were some left over after the Rendezvous, and I was able to call Chris and order one. It's not for everyone, but I kinda like it. :D
...
Thanks for the brief history of your Glitter Gold 78, Barrett. :)

I’m not big on New Years resolutions, so as of right now, I only have two:
Play more guitar
Quit swapping my pocket knife(knives) every day just because.

So these two again:cool:View attachment 1046832
One of the reasons I've ended up spending some time to lay out a weekly rotation schedule is that I was spending WAY too much time deciding what knives to carry each day.

...
I thinks you may underestimate yourself, GT. ;):D
Thanks, my friend.

I hear ya, it's the old and patina'd that give me the most pause to consider.

I think you may be prepared for just about anything with that trio.

I carrying this one into the new year. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YA!

Thanks for the affirmation, FBC. :) Your ebony Guardians knife and the sheath are top shelf!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Decent day out today to get some pictures of today's carry ; TWO 77's and both are Smooth Bone Autumn Gold . Barlow and Washington HJ .

Harry
Notable pair, Harry!:thumbsup::cool: (Cool Christmas pics, too. ;))

Your green knife really hums, Ken :thumbsup::thumbsup:, but that machinery looks rather ominous. :(

Some really nice Ebony for you today my friend .
Thanks for the very kind words Ron . You are correct . They are both made of Unobtainium right now . Someday , hopefully a ways off , they will not be . But right now , I am very proud to have them .
Thanks for the comments on the Family Photos . My favorite Christmas Gift has coffee in it as I write this . A saying on the cup says " MY FAVORITE PEOPLE CALL ME PAPPY " .
We hope that you and your bride also have a great New Year . I think we both married above our pay grades my friend .
Be safe and be well my friend .

Harry
Thanks Harry! I do like my Ebony! I think of it as the Sambar of the wood world! ;) Thanks for the well wishes for the coming year! I be in touch soon!:D

Beautiful BB, Will, The chestnuts bring out the hint of brown in the covers.

They would be appropriate (and appreciated) on any day, Ron.

It is my understanding that, although Queen started making molds of their Winterbottom covers for use with Delrin in the early 1960s, they did not fully convert from bone handles to Delrin until 1968. So yours is pre-1968, at least. Here's my #10 heavy jack from that same period with a #15 half congress from 1958-1960, both in bone.

Thanks Stuart! :) Those are some beautiful Winterbottems my friend!

I greeted the New Year with optimism and expectation as my son, a buddy, and I sat in our duck blind yesterday morning. We were met with a beautiful sunrise, a fair breeze - and a balmy 60°. We saw ducks loafing in far away coves, but none flying. Still, it was a good morning together and we have a few weeks of duck season left. Deer season ends this weekend, so I may be in abstensia for a few days (depending on the weather). This was the view in the blind yesterday, with my Case 048 slim-line trapper and Daniel Cannady small game knife sitting idle in the background.

Gary,

We had a lot of fun with Centipede and Pac Man, addictive :D

The best home system for games (1980-81) was the Atari 400 (computer with the plug-in cartridges) it was as close as anything to the real thing speed and graphics wise. My wife (a non gamer) spent hours getting through all levels of Pac Man. It was an expensive system, about $400 or so IIRC. It had custom sound and graphics chips in addition to a 6502 chip. The additional RAM needed was supplied via the game cartridges. Not so good as a computer but a very advance game system for the time.

When I sold it quite a few years ago at a Hamfest I had three buyers I thought were going to fight over it.

Lion Steel Ebony Drop Point Bolus today:thumbsup:
siJAg8.jpg

This particular knife has piqued my interest, Paul, ever since I saw them on Mike's site. I think I am going to pick one up but I am torn between the Rams Horn (which Lion Steel does so well with) and the Ebony. I am also very much looking forward to Mike's Warhorse. That is going to be a heck of a knife!

Well, I hope everyone had a very fine Holiday season and that the New Year is bringing all sorts of happiness, new and better things, and more importantly, knives! I am carrying these two today. Every time I have Lyle's SFO in my pocket, I feel so honored to have had the opportunity, a truly special knife.

I really like your Spanish and Portuguese knives, Gary. Will be looking into them. (Actually, I'm ordering a Spanish knife this weekend.)

I sure like the looks of that one Paul.:D

Thanks Dylan and Dave, Dylan, what a great pair with fantastic smooth covers. I'm fortunate to own Lyle's Lick Creek as well and I too feel very lucky:thumbsup:

Dave, the different blade options had me stumped for a while, but very happy with the drop point:thumbsup:

Carried this old dog and stared at in embarrassed disbelief one Dwight ( @Fodderwing ) sent me without saying a word. More later when the world/ life stops spinning so fast (no camera again anyway )

This old dog is a balloon end swell center whittler in pick bone. It's old as the hills, shattered and broken with perfect walk and talk and not a hint of wobble. A Shapleigh Hardware diamond gem (sellers pic ) I bid at the last second upon seeing it and the computer locked up :eek:When it came to life it was mine. Went to the mailbox to retrieve it and found a box from Dwight o_O The shenanigans of you Band of Brothers make a guy tear up. As Paul would say....I'm not worthy. The lord is mysterious
