What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

What time is it? Why, it’s Stag’O’Clock!:);)

Carrying the Outlaw.

Beautiful Stag Ken! Congratulations also! :)

I’m Totin this 77 Stag Barlow today! :)

Crank yer Boogie! :thumbsup::cool:
Oh I did.:D
And I finally listened to my partner to quit holding back like I was afraid to make a mistake, and just play like I do when I don’t care about screw ups. Went much better then.

I'm glad to hear it.

:D:p:D

In my pockets today:

Thanks, my friend!
Great pair, as usual.
I picked out this folder by the late J.M. "Mickey" Maddox to tote today. Mr. Maddox, of Ringgold, GA, learned to make knives from Ron Little and purchased some of Mr. Little's equipment and materials when he passed in 1977. I believe that this knife was made in the 1980's. Mr. Maddox died on December 5, 2015 at 89 years old. Well, I went outside to get a good picture of the knife only to find that we'd just had a cold drizzle and my intended photo prop, an upstanding ash log, was wet. Off came my shirt to protect the knife. Now, I was freezing and my hands were like butterfly wings holding the cell phone/camera. So much for photographic genius.

That’s a keeper, and likely irreplaceable.

We would have taken your word that it was oak, since your logger’s shirt was hiding it.

Great selection of Ebony knives.

Thank you, Dylan! :) Your photos always impress.

Thank you, fellas.

A fine reason indeed.

Dylan I have been warming up to the A. G. Russel knives too. Here is a large sow I received recently from them. It is very close to perfection.

A fine photograph, Dwight, it looks to be a very well made knife. I opted for the same one, except mine will have the clip blade and the bomb shield (I'm a sucker for that bomb shield...). Should be here Monday.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, I'm pocketing these two today :)

An excellent pairing, Jack. The Ironwood never disappoints.

I carried these two on the trail today.

Dean, that blue bone looks fantastic! It makes me less apprehensive about having it reserved. I'm still not crazy about the bolster stamp but I think I will be able to live with it just fine ;).

I have a wee bit of Stag and a Lamb dressed in Scarlet with me today. I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

The 81 made it until the morning. Woke up and decjded to take Ryu with the family to see Mary Poppins. Then back.home, switched to the 81 who is helping me make beef stew.

Fwiw, the kids LOVED the movie. Me and the wife liked it a pretty good bit also. Very reminiscent of Disney of old.

Thanks for the instructive tale, FBC, to show us that determination can pay off!;) I'm glad you found it, but semi-amazed that you did. It's enough to make me consider carrying only bright red (or better, neon rainbow) knives. You obviously knew approximately where to look; any idea how it happened? The Drover managed to crawl out of both a slip and your pocket? Or hadn't you actually returned it to the slip after the fence post photo? Were you wearing gloves and tried to put the knife in your pocket, but "missed"?
You are most welcome, my friend. I think it may be the longest post I have ever made.:D
I had spotted a sunny spot up ahead and in preparation for a photo I had taken the two knives out of my pocket, both were in slips. When I got to the sunny spot I realized that the slip I had the 35 in was upside down and empty. I had returned it to the slip after the fence post photo but I just wasn't paying attention when I fished them out of my pocket for that next photo.

The flu caught up to me and laid me low for the last few days. So this has been the only knife pic I could manage.

Happy Black Friday All...

Appealing 78, John!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I'm not much of a micarta fan, but that black micarta is more than just OK. ;)

Case rough black (gum fuddy) humpback stockman.View attachment 1048108
Standout knife, Alan; the spearpoint main on the humpback stock knives is a real draw for me!:cool::thumbsup:

These two, hot dog shields and natural micarta.

Striking patina and wood on that one, Dave!:cool::thumbsup:

The Camillus is my constant companion for the time being.

But I have to admit that the Remington scout is sitting on my work desk today, so I can admire it. For two knives of identical pattern, size, cover type and being of similar vintage, they elicit far different emotional reactions. I would describe the Camillus as solid, strong, capable and useful. The Remington is artful, wondrous, lovely and somehow grounding. I receive joy from using the Camillus in all of my daily duties. I feel gratitude for having the privilege of inspecting and handling the Remington, something I'm not used to experiencing in my knife collecting. One is a superlative tool. The other is simply a masterpiece. One piece helps me to understand who I am. The other gives me a glimpse of who I might someday become.
...
Great post, Buzz; articulate and even poetic ("having an imaginative or sensitively emotional style of expression")!:thumbsup::cool:

Old Friends Friday : These 2 TEW's are Old and I do carry them a lot . Sheepfoot and Lambfoot...They are both in my pockets today

Old friends are the best friends, Harry; tremendous TEWsome!:cool::cool:

That hog takes the blue ribbon, Stuart!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks GT, I spent many hours and many quarters in arcades in the '80s. ... This machine brings back a little of that nostalgia :). Terrific group of knives you have there, especially the colonial
...
At least you were a kid in the arcades, Tom; I was old enough to know better! Thanks for noting my knives. :) Your blue Farmer and Plow make a memorable couple!:thumbsup::cool:

Bullish on the lambsfoot.
Great pic, Vince!:cool::cool: I like that statue, and that's no bull. ;)

While wandering around the (jigged) bone pile, I found this little old slim fella and decided to give him some pocket time. He, the sowbelly and I will be ready to greet my Friday afternoon group at our local watering hole this afternoon. A Schatt & Morgan barehead jack from 1902-1928.

Getting good pics was tough today in the flat light of an approaching storm front.
- Stuart
Despite the conditions, you prevailed, Stuart. Awesome shots of that superb jack you discovered!:thumbsup::cool:

Holey clip blade, Dee, your Scagel is scandalously spectacular!:cool::thumbsup:

These were back on trapper Tuesday, carried in my Mr. Rogers rig.
btINIaC.jpg
That Mackinac Bridge trapper is especially cool, Jer!:thumbsup::thumbsup: What's a Mr. Rogers rig? A cardigan sweater with a knife in each pocket?

... Lots of driving - my father in law is in the hospital. He’s got an irregular heartbeat. Hopefully they can regulate the tachycardia because that causes clots which cause strokes.
Should be ok, but when you’re in your 80s, it’s concerning.
That’s very kind, Mitch. Happily, he’s home tonight, and feeling good:thumbsup:

Hey! Lookit that Sailor! I love that.

I like TL29s, for sure. The attraction started first with camper/scout knives, then Swiss Army knives. Having utility tools and blades is just so handy.
That hard use screwdriver blade with a scraper takes care of all the ugly jobs that you wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) use a nice blade for.

The Dick Butkus of pocket knives:D
And the best bang for my limited buck, too.
Glad to hear that your father-in-law is back home, Jeff.:thumbsup:
Thanks for explaining why you're so drawn to the TL-29; makes sense to me, and I can kind of relate to the "evolution" you describe.:thumbsup: I have several electrician knives (Camillus, Boker USA, Colonial, Rough Rider, Holub), but because I always carry a SAK, I've thought about turning the screwdriver of at least one of the electrician knives into a shorter cutting blade, like a sheepsfoot or coping blade.
Thanks for noticing that sailor knife; the angle of the pic is obviously misleading about the size of that blade. ;)

...
Let’s see. Classic gentleman’s pen knife in your pocket, in line at the buffet by 4:30 for the senior’s discount, falling asleep by eight...:D
We’re gettin old, my friend.:eek::oops:
Wait! There's a senior discount at the buffet at 4:30?? Oh, never mind; that's when I usually go to the gym. :D Can't argue with your conclusion about getting old, but I've been an early to bed, early to rise guy my entire life - can't seem to shake that habit from growing up on a dairy farm.

Alan, I ordered a Case and when I got the invoice, I realized I inadvertently scooped up a three blade version in CV. ...
I think that's a "mistake" you won't regret at all, Dylan! ;):cool::thumbsup:

Thanks GT! Eh that would be two many choices :D:rolleyes:
:) It's cool to see the different preferences and tastes folks have here!

For the Twelfth Day of Christmas (Jan. 5) and for Epiphany, also known as el Día de los Reyes (Jan. 6).
Another cool pic of your stag lambsfoot, Vince!:thumbsup::cool: 4 years ago today, I was visiting my daughter in Spain, and we took a bus from Denia to Valencia. We tried to take a cab from the Valencia bus station to the hotel where we'd reserved a room, but the guy could only get us to within about 3 blocks because of a huge Kings' Day Eve parade! It was a challenge to fight our way through the crowds, with each of us dragging a suitcase along. I was amazed at how big a holiday Kings' Day was in Spain!

Highly handsome Swayback Jack! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

...
Thanks pal, I've not had a RR with those fancy bolsters yet (though I've had similar Colt knives) :) Nice Anchor Knife too
...
Hope everyone has a great weekend, I'm pocketing these two today :)

Ironwood lambsfoot and Abbeydale Jack are a grand pair, Jack!:cool::thumbsup:
Thanks for mentioning my "whimsy picks". :) The carbon steel is a departure for Rough Rider, so I wanted to check it out, and I'm quite impressed with the two I ordered.

Thanks, Jack, and glad that you seem to be on the mend. That's a pretty pair that you are totin' today

Thanks a lot Stuart

A true Knife Knut! :D Great photo of a classy knife my friend, hope you're warmed up now :) Perhaps you're descended from this feller, whose just about to take a photo of his sword (though you have considerably better dress sense)?! :D ;)

Thanks very much Dylan, stellar pair, I love the jigging on that bone and the striking colour

Choice pair Taylor

Very sorry to hear that Kevin, hope you're feeling better soon mate

5K Qs 5K Qs Gary, the spear main on the humpback makes the knife a standout. Plus, look at that swedge. The w&t and f&f on this one is second to none. My only nitpick is Case's tendency to only jig the central section of the cover.
