What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I awoke to cold and windy conditions outside, so I waited until our new dog needed a walk and the fireplaces needed a re-fill to take a pic of my tote today. Morning temps of -5° wind chill eventually rose to 3° wind chill when I walked at 10:00 am. My tote is a Queen #31 medium congress from 1961-1971. I'm guessing that it is from the rear end of that period, as the covers are Delrin in the Winterbottom jigging. A single spring knife, this is easy totin'.

I forgot to post pics of some of the knives I'm carrying this week. I'll do that now, then head for bed - nothing better on a frigid night!:D:thumbsup:
Alox Knife this week is one of my most prized knives, an old cross Pioneer:

Love the old Pioneer. I once carried a very similar one every day for 3 years straight. I never had want for another knife.

Jeff, you’re always teasing us with your guitar projects. I sincerely hope that we get to see some of the finished pieces, maybe in Randy’s instrument thread, along with some traditional cutlery ;). How’s that Strat coming along? -Lance

That Strat is annoying my wife as we speak. I laid on as many thin coats of lacquer as I could get away with in this weather - hope it's thick enough- and is now mounted on a 2x2 through the neck pocket, which is stuck in a drawer of an antique cabinet in the living room. It needs to cure for a couple of weeks before I can wet sand and clear coat it.View attachment 1058810

The one I'm working on today is the 4th of 4 that I've worked on for this one guy. The first three were pretty simple - a little fret work, neck adjustments, intonation ...just a set up. This one was a basket case. I replaced all the electronics, once I get the bone nut fitted and cut and slotted, I'll be able to string it up and see if I got the electronics right. This guy is the guitar player for a woman in her church band, and I play with her in another band. She asked if I'd look at one of his guitars for him, since she knew I'd built my own. One guitar led to another... But he pays me, so that's cool.

My #1 electric, a home built. African mahogany from the sawmill, and a flamed piece of maple for the neck that I found in the racks at Menards.View attachment 1058811View attachment 1058812

Smart move. They are works of art. I love using mine. The Muscle bone version is the user and it has loosened up to perfection on the mainblade. The pull on the main blade is very mild now and super pinchable. I’d rate it at a five now, it was probably an 8 before. The secondary is still tight, but it has mellowed too, maybe a 7.5-8 pull, before it was a 9. I’ve been using both sheaths, but the fold over sheath is the most comfortable for me. The 46 Whaler is super large for a pocketknife, but when you put it in a belt sheath it is just an average sized belt knife. @Horsewright made this sheath and a pancake style sheath for me. I’m sure he will make more if anyone asks him.

I’m on the lookout for one of the single blade Whalers with the easy open notch next.

I’m wearing it right now. Here it is on...

You can see that this sheath keeps the top of the knife some distance from my back. I don’t like anything touching my back fat.

Holy smokes, Travis! I had no idea those whalers were that big. I think this is the first time you've shown it in context.
Very cool.

It's the last time I'm carrying this knife. I bought it from Estonia and now I'm giving it as a birthday gift to a collegue and friend. A lady whose both into outdoor life and also folklore. Should fit her nicely. The sheath looks now better than in the picture, I did a bit of refinishing like some sanding of the edges and a hot beeswax treatment.

I'm a day late with the pic, but most days I use pocket knives in the kitchen. Sunday I dismembered some vegetables:

Thanks for the kind words pal

I had to travel out of state this weekend for a dear friend’s memorial service/wake. My wife and I were traveling light, so I decided to keep my pockets light as well.

The small-yet-perfectly formed GEC 14 + Victorinox Rogue duo performed admirably. So much so that they remain in my pockets today...and may well become my regular carry.

Sorry for your loss :(

Thanks, GT. That is a Schrade Walden in "butter & molasses" celluloid.

01. Underrated stockman i think. I love how the sheepsfoot opens right handed also. And the Spey has a definite pen flavor to the edge shape.
Sweet! I’ve been on the hunt for one of those. Perfect edc size for me, I’ve been buying all the Queen made Moore Maker stockman I can find/afford lately. That one looks to be a fine example.

Thanks Jack, although a wee bit of luck never hurts. ;) Waiting for the results afterwards is the worst part anyway ...

Great combo on your side as well! A well loved 15 is always nice to see and of course the obligatory lambsfoot to seal of the deal. :D
