What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

................I've been to two funerals in two days (a side effect of having old friends for a long time). I carried the Böker 8842 yesterday and this Primble English jack today, as both guys were knife users and would have been sad if I didn't. Winter Storm Jayden spared us for a part of the grave-side ceremony for today's affair, but has pretty much settled in now.

Sorry for the loss of your friends, Stuart. Never an easy thing and two so close together is just not fair.

Let me preface my carries for today with an apology to my good friend Stuart @Duckdog! Before Thanksgiving I had the opportunity to visit with Stuart. I’ve visited Stuart several times before so we had a nice lunch at our usual sandwich shop then we drove over to Stuart’s home where I got to meet his lovely wife, Norma. I also got to take a look at some of his huge collection of vintage knives. It’s amazing at all the beautiful knives Stuart has. Now I admit to having gifted Stuart a #48 GEC bird knife during lunch. I was totally blown away when Stuart reciprocated the gift with not one but two beautiful vintage knives. The Miller Brothers (1872-1926) Jack knife. We believe it’s Rosewood, but it could be Cocobolo! Either way, it’s an amazingly beautiful knife. The second knife is a Queen #31 Half Congress in Winterbottom. I’m almost positive it’s bone but again either way it’s a beautiful knife. So a belated public “Thank You” Stuart! :) I’ll be seeing you soon and I’m looking forward to meeting Loki! ;)

I was referring to the two baseball players on the cover of the book. NY Yankees pitcher Ron Guidry who had one of the best seasons ever and Yogi Berra one of the winningest catchers ever on some of the greatest teams. I always follow Yogi's advice. One of my favorite Yogiisms was "when you come to a fork in the road, take it."
One of my all time favorite quotes, Alan.
Small Rounder along for the bone chilling ride today. Stay warm, folks!

For Minnesota:
Stormy Kromer hats
Sorel boots
Chopper mittens (deerskin with wool liners)

You won’t need that stuff every day, but when you do, you will be glad you have it.
Remember, if it’s cold, you can always add another layer. If it’s hot, once you are naked, that is as far as you can go.

I'm quoting this post that's over a year old and from a different thread (Carl's Lounge) because I just wanted to thank @Henry Beige for the recommendation of chopper mitts before my move to Minnesota last year. I bought these in the fall, and up to this point, they've been unnecessary/overkill. But, like you said, they sure were nice to have this morning! I'm carrying my #77 Yankee Jack again today.

Don't let the sun fool you, it was -28°F out when I took that picture, but at least by that point the wind had died down a bit. It felt much colder a couple hours earlier when I was out trying to get my wife's car started (her battery was not happy about the cold).

Hope y'all stay warm!

Thanks, Steve, I needed that.
