Bought it several months back. Finally got a pic today.

Edited to add: I can't keep up with most of y'all with all the beautiful, high-end knives. Forgive my lowly attempt.

There have been sooo many great knives posted in this thread lately! Including all of the incredible new desert ironwood that's been showing up lately.

I just have to make special mention of these because I have a "thing" for old Schrades and Camilluses.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I don't know - it's a 6 to one - 1/2 dozen to another situation. A tip sticking out of the snow or another dead branch looking like thing among the detritus of the forest floor. Fun looking in either case. I've had success both ways.

One day my wife and I walked out and she asked - "when should we start looking for sheds?" I replied - "well now - pick up the one at your feet". :D I love that kind of occurrence.

Another example - went camping with a girlfriend back in the day. She hadn't been in the northern Maine woods - but we only went to Mt. Blue. ;) We were just walking around the dirt road outside the camp and she asked - "when will I see a moose?" I look down the road about 80 yards and pointed and said "will that one be a good start?" Nice bull just standing there -watching us, watching it. :cool:

Yup - but incoming snow so you might need to wait for another melt Pinemoon Pinemoon

OK - more knife content :rolleyes: This one soon to be in the rotation. Needs a bit of work but what a beauty.

Cheers, Ray

Hi Ray
I talked to my Philippine friend about your knife.
He says it's a traditional style used in the forest like a machete, or for splitting small firewood. It's not for cooking or hunting.
He said it could easily date to the WWII era.
I'll ask more about the sheath later...

Vintage Albert Oates - what a beauty :thumbsup: cigarrodog cigarrodog . One of my favorites of late. Congrats!

Thank you. Originally coming from the modern side, and liking blades 4 inches and longer, the cutting edge on the Oates is 3 and 1/4 inches. It feels like old times, knife wise, compared to my other traditionals.

@kai76 Thank you.

@kai76 Thank you.
I too came from the modern side about a year ago, it would be interesting to hear what brings some of us back to the traditional.
