What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Jonathan Livingston Seagull?
Anyone remember this?

Hi Don - 6:30 - I think I see the sun through the clouds o_O - probably the over shine from Sebago. ;)

Do you see the Scarlet Tanagers down where you are? Saw a golden eagle last summer. That was a 1st and very exciting too. My neighbor who travels the state of Maine routinely and is most often out on the sea reports seeing them pretty regularly. Impressive even considering the beauty and grandeur of the now Bay Eagle neighbors we see regularly.

Cheers,
Ray
I love the comeback the bald eagle has made here. I see them regularly now on the lake. Never seen a golden. Neat that you did!

And I don't think we have scarlet ts, but I'm not that knowledgeable on songbirds.

It’s cold and windy but at least I’m on the water :)

I’m sitting on three Mitchell 300s, and two Michell 304’s. I use the 304’s for smallmouth, walleye and trout. The 300’s get used for largemouth bass and pike. My very first reel was the 304, handed down to me by my dad when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. It’s caught a mess of fish over the last 45 years I’ve used it, and many before that.

Beautiful photo Dwight
Thanks Jack. The Yorkshire Rose reigns supreme.

As some of you saw in my Beverages post last night, the family of my late buddy found some of his pocket knives while we were cleaning out his house the past few days. I didn't know that he had any, and he never carried them for the 20 or so years that I knew him. They knew that I like knives (the fixed blade on my belt may have been a clue) so they gave these to me yesterday, from the top: Schrade 108OT (1946-1973), Case 051 Fishtail lockback with Pakkawood covers (P1051 1/2 L SSP, 1986), and a Craftsman 95075 lockback. These are as they found them, and they are incredibly sharp (and I know that he couldn't sharpen a knife). I'm totin' all three today.

We also found these two puzzling pieces. I thought that they were leather punches, until one of his nephews mentioned that my buddy worked summers during his early college days (he ended up with a Phd in history) installing HVAC ducting. Bingo! They are sheet metal scribing tools, one factory made (with replaceable tip), one handmade.

Great post Stuart. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks, Dwight; I'm very fond of the Mohawk canoe. :)
Charismatic custom navaja!!

High-class historic pruner, Dwight!:cool::thumbsup: That jigged bone handle is perfect for a pruner - even looks sort of like a prune.
Thank you GT!

Here's the quartet I literally EDC along with my rotating schedule of knives:
A fine quartet. As I recall, you carry a fanny pack?

My new Rosewood Lambsfoot from Jack Black Jack Black Jack Black :cool: also a cool Moziac called "Trust" is one of a series that local artists have done and are painted on the side of town buildings

Lovely pic Dave :) Hope you'll be very happy in your new home, and also HAPPY BIRTHDAY my friend :)

Woods walking today so as always on my belt was my Henri Tikkanen Puukko and as accompaniment - cause 2 knives are always better than one - I was carrying Cedrick the Ettrick. A pretty pair.

Look at the color developing on the birch bark handle.

An otherwise nearly rainy day - some might consider a bleak day - here in the mid-coast but brightened up considerably by an extended sighting of a Scarlet Tanager and it's mate. They were as curious about us as we were of them. This was the very 1st time I have seen one in Maine - though I had seen one ONCE in Connecticut.

Mostly went to explore around a bit today, but talked to a warden he said the fish are small and stunted from the acidity. But said the gators get big lol, didn't spot any gators today. I also went to Great lake there but at least on the side I came in on it's very limited access to the water, but there is kinda a boat ramp but it's gotten overgrown. Main dirt road in is really wide and smooth(Catfish Lake Rd), but some of the secondary ones have plenty of potholes. I came in from the Maysville/Pollocksville side. But people was coming and going in cars, warden was in a car to. It's a little over an hour for me to drive there. Not sure if there's a boat access to Catfish lake or not

Thanks David. Seen the signs but never heard anyone talk of fishing there. When I want to freshwater fish locally I stop by the little town pier in Pollocksville. Going to carry my HSB today. OH
