What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Auspicious pair, Jeff; I especially like that Kabar!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I think the KaBar must be some kind of ancestor of this Rough Rider half-hawk that's one of my favorites:

:D Jeff, I hope the social obligations and chit chat turned out to be much better than anticipated.:thumbsup:

Here's the quartet I literally EDC along with my rotating schedule of knives:

I agree. There certainly is a strong resemblance between the old Kabar and your RR! Half Hawk, huh? Now I have a name to go with it!
The social obligations and chit chat were tolerated!:D At the rehearsal dinner, the groom presented his gaggle of young groomsmen appreciation gifts of a pocket knife! Cheap imported SAK knockoffs:rolleyes::D NONE of those youngsters had a scintilla of familiarity with the idea of carrying a knife!o_Oo_O
Some people’s kids these days...
I did show one of them how to sharpen a blade on the unglazed rim on china, but his knife was so poorly ground that it was hopeless.
Nice to see your 5 that you carry literally everyday. And, nice to see “literally” used properly for a change! “Literally” is misused nearly as often as is “Random” these days.

Woods walking today so as always on my belt was my Henri Tikkanen Puukko and as accompaniment - cause 2 knives are always better than one - I was carrying Cedrick the Ettrick. A pretty pair.

Look at the color developing on the birch bark handle.

An otherwise nearly rainy day - some might consider a bleak day - here in the mid-coast but brightened up considerably by an extended sighting of a Scarlet Tanager and it's mate. They were as curious about us as we were of them. This was the very 1st time I have seen one in Maine - though I had seen one ONCE in Connecticut.

Cheers,

Hi Vince - JL is looking pretty seedy these days  - but any nice gulls or albatross or terns could do

:) Ray

I guess I need more knife content ...

Woods walking~ what a great way to pass the time! Good for body and soul.
The puuko looks great! If you could only have one, that would do the job.

Thanks Dwight, what a beautiful knife
Thanks Jack. Beautiful pics of your Dama and Ancient.

Super pen knife Dwight. Do you know the meaning of I.O of R.M.
Thanks. "Improved Order of Red Men"

Fodderwing Fodderwing A great old Pen knife Dwight!
Thanks Ron. Great pair your totin.

Good morning everyone! :) I’ve got a busy day ahead of me, but then it’s family time on the Georgia Coast for the rest of the week! :D I’m following Jack’s example this morning
Have a great trip to the Atlantic coast my friend.

As much as I love his TC’s, I believe his 48 SFO was a real sleeper. They are incredibly nice to use and carry. They also have the rare random jigging that many of us wish GEC would use more often. They are often available on the aftermarket at reasonable prices compared to the Barlows.

Some noteworthy (to me ;)) posts from Saturday and Sunday.

Overwhelming options available in that pair, Jeff!:thumbsup::cool:

That's a lot of knife, Dwight!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Did it come with the stylish matching bead, or did you make that?

Finding it necessary to carry this one today if I really have to use a knife .

For about three days now it's been brilliant sunshine and warm, up to 22c :D Remember also that up near the roof of the world it stays light now until 11pm and up again before 5am and gaining every day. Makes up for the misery darkness Nov-Jan ;)

Glad you're enjoying the arrival of warmer weather, Will! :):thumbsup: That yellow Buck stockman looks radiant and useful.

If you got it, flaunt it!!:cool::cool::thumbsup::)

I got up this morning before 6:00 am and drove 170 miles to get some things from our daughters Town Home near Nashville. I spent about a half hour there and turned around and drove the 170 miles back home so I could eat lunch with my wife! ;) I started out with this Ebony #73 Scout in my pocket. After lunch I switched to the Stag #35 Churchill to fulfill my Saturday requirements! I hope everyone has had a good day! :)

You're a traveling man, Ron, with a pair of exquisite knives!:thumbsup::cool: Coincidentally, for some reason I had this song stuck in my head Saturday:

Thank you. I've been looking at images of old scrimshaw and engravings for ideas, so I'm feeling like quite the amateur compared to what's out there. I'm gonna have to order a bunch of white bone Rough Riders to get some practice! :D
You got Skilz, Rachel!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I'll send you a couple of white bone RRs on which to practice, if you'll return them when you're finished! ;) (I'm thinking it would be sort of like finding some of Picasso's sketchbooks.)

I always have a traditional folder in my pocket. I rotate between 2 or 3, but for the past few weeks it's been this Case mini copperhead... it has the wharnecliff as the main blade, and a pen blade. Very handy little knife....

I totally agree!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I've got a navy blue jigged bone mini copperhead that's one of my favorite knives! :)

Little Big Horn and K’roo too!
Impressive couple of lambsfoots, Joshua!:thumbsup::cool:

As some of you saw in my Beverages post last night, the family of my late buddy found some of his pocket knives while we were cleaning out his house the past few days. I didn't know that he had any, and he never carried them for the 20 or so years that I knew him. They knew that I like knives (the fixed blade on my belt may have been a clue) so they gave these to me yesterday, from the top: Schrade 108OT (1946-1973), Case 051 Fishtail lockback with Pakkawood covers (P1051 1/2 L SSP, 1986), and a Craftsman 95075 lockback. These are as they found them, and they are incredibly sharp (and I know that he couldn't sharpen a knife). I'm totin' all three today.

Plaudits for helping out, Stuart, and congrats on the priceless keepsakes! ;):thumbsup:

Today’s carry is the closest I can get to the team colors of the St. Louis Blues, hoping this will bring a little luck for the game today :).

Love the blue Farmer, Tom, and your efforts seem to have paid off in a big way! ;):cool: The Blues have had quite a turn-around this year, right?

Picked up the LT on Friday so I've been mostly carrying it and the little Kutmaster since then.
Versatile pair!:thumbsup::cool: How do you like the 110 LT so far?

My new Rosewood Lambsfoot from Jack Black Jack Black Jack Black :cool: also a cool Moziac called "Trust" is one of a series that local artists have done and are painted on the side of town buildings

Congrats on another fine rosewood lambsfoot, Dave, and good to see you back on The Porch!:cool::thumbsup: I'm sure there are plenty of post-move tasks waiting, but take your time and don't burn yourself out! ;)

...
That is a great looking 85, Gary! Buffalo horn?
...
Thanks, Dean. :) It is buffalo horn, almost entirely black with hardly any feathering, and a post-production EO notch and pen-to-coping secondary blade mod.

I'm carrying this penknife that Case calls this an Antique Bone Half Whittler.

That's a prime example of a pattern I've come to appreciate a lot! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Monday is the day I usually do my weekly rotation. Today I noticed that my schedule assigned me several knives with bails or keyring attachments.

And the real SAKs are very inexpensive (compared to GEC, or even Case). It's sad. I've carried a knife most of my life, since I was about 8 or 9, and our forefathers did too. Necessary equipment, like carrying a comb, handkerchief, billfold, keys, etc. We live in a different world, where children are taught that all knives are weapons and are bad. It was man's first tool, for crying out loud! Well, I'm raising my daughter right. She ALWAYS has at least one knife on her, and most of the time it's a traditional. :)

You're so right. Another word that is generally misused is "awesome." I think the Grand Canyon is awesome; some people use "awesome" in almost every sentence, it seems. Went to a restaurant and the waiter asked "Have you been here before?" "Yes." "AWESOME!" He used the word about ten times on his first trip to our table! I almost laughed, but I behaved and didn't embarrass my wife. :)

Knife content: got this in my pocket now:

Lovely pic Dave :) Hope you'll be very happy in your new home, and also HAPPY BIRTHDAY my friend :)

Nice pic, that's a beautiful Puukko :) Fine Ettrick too, the name made me laugh :D :) Interesting to see the Scarlet Tanager

Nice Mitchell Buzz, I wish I still had mine (my dad stole it decades ago)

Thanks Dwight, what a beautiful knife :)

Morning folks, hope everyone had a great weekend :) Starting the week off with these two
