What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Headed out in the morning with my oldest daughter to go deer hunting. Had every intention to take the Hess Whitetail. About 3:00 I got the call from the nursing home that my 102 year old Grandad had passed. Being a lifelong hunter and knowing what he wanted to happen upon his death, we are going hunting. There will be a party later for him.

Now the only choice I had was to take his Western he gave me the year my oldest daughter was born. He packed it on Okinawa in WW II, used it on Moose, Caribou, Deer, Antelope, fish and who knows what else. Hoping he and it will bring us some good luck.

I’ve been debating about what to do with the Frontier stockman I picked up like he used to carry. I thought about sending it over to be buried with him, in case he needs one wherever he ends up, but decided I’m going to just use the hell out of it...I think he’d approve.

Wow, 102 years of living, serving, and passing on what he knew! My condolences on the loss of your Grandfather. Sounds like he was a terrific influence on your family. OH

A particular favourite of mine in your rotation Gary, hope you have a great weekend

Thanks for the compliment Jack! It has indeed been a long tiring day, just getting from a day of mulch and fun things such as that! Lovely loaf of bread with your Lambsfoot today my friend!

Hope you got to put your feet up Ron, thanks pal :)

Thank you, Jack.
It is the Month of the Wolf. ;)

Skolltober?! ;)

Sorry for your loss sir, but it sounds as if your grandfather lived a fine and full life :) You have picked a fine way to celebrate him, and that Western is quite a knife

Jack Black Jack Black - Thank you kindly, Jack. Cool SFO. That wonderful looking loaf needs slicing, with lightly toasting, and something spread or melted on it. Your sweet looking Lamb could easily handle that.:)

Thank you Harvey, I am a sucker for good bread, and that baguette is already gone! :D I had some just as it was, some more just buttered, more spread with pate, accompanied by olives and a glass of wine, and finished it off for breakfast, lightly toasted, and spread with orange marmalade :)

Thank you Jack!!! It's always a quite a pleasure to see your wonderful Sheffield beauties; a true standard in cutlery!:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you very much JJ :)

Morning folks, hope everyone has had a decent week, and is looking forward to the weekend :) I'm carrying my Unity Cutlery Co-op Lambsfoot and a GEC #15 :)

I thought something was familiar about Sköll, and you've nailed it for me, John; he's definitely depicted in the style of Hidden Pictures!:thumbsup::)

I can see the wolf!

(Goofus and Gallant were my favorites, though.;))

Autumn is coming!
...
I'd completely forgotten about Goofus and Gallant; as firstborn of 7 siblings, I felt a lot of pressure to emulate Gallant!
Autumn is certainly coming by me, and I hope it's eventually true for you, Rachel, although I'll miss seeing that Stock Yard Whittler.:cool::thumbsup:

A little red today.
...
Both you and the knife are Gallant Gents, Dean! ;):cool:

Love those long, narrow blades.
So why don't I carry this Camillus 69?

I’ve got two SFO’s in my pocket today. A 2018 release Ancient TC Barlow from Charlie @waynorth and a Ashley’s Choice Lambsfoot from Jack Black Jack Black . :D

Superb ancient knife, Harvey, in a sublime photo!:thumbsup::cool:

These two today.

Cool color coordination, Tom! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

This Star Brand Shoe promotional knife belonged to my grandfather, who passed away in 1916. I've never carried it before, but I just posted some information about the knife (and my grandfather) in the "Old Knives" thread and I'm carrying it today in his honor.

After some thought I have narrowed down 3 knives for veganism. 1. A variation of the "Bunny Knife",because of eating only "rabbit food". Or 2. A melon tester, to test tasty melons of course. And 3. A rotten banana bone GEC. Because being stuck with only fruits and veggies would be rotten imo. (No offense meant to any of our vegans) :D:thumbsup:
Thanks for the entertaining suggestions, David! ;):cool: I didn't expect you to actually respond to my silly comment.

...
I love the stag on this knife.
My Tote for Wednesday...
Thanks, John. :)
I love the patina on this knife; glad you decided to start "dancing with the wolf"!:cool::thumbsup:

For today my wooden Wednesday totes are both wearing ebony covers; a French Laguiole super slicer and an American traditional boys knife. :)
...
What a wood pair, JJ!:cool::thumbsup: I'm a few years past being a boy, but I should get me a boys knife or two - satisfying simplicity!

Morning folks, thought I'd go with black today ;)
...
Eponymous ebony for Wooden Wednesday, Jack; exemplary!:cool::cool:

Looks like my post opens and closes with exquisite little lockbacks from you, José! ;):thumbsup:

My condolences on the loss of your grandfather. Have a great hunt in his honor!
Rachel, I live about 45 miles east of you...I believe that our first frost may not be until December this year!!! I agree wholeheartedly with your Central Texas definitions!

Reading Goofus and Gallant, I always felt there was a 'middle road' not depicted. Also, as the youngest with two older brothers, I found I could get away with a lot if I did my mischief quietly. ;)
I doubt it will get below 50 this week, so I may as well keep carrying the Stockyard through Halloween. Along with a few others, of course.

Thank you, GT! Between your Martinez and my stumbling upon your posts in the Spanish knives threads, I'm starting to get the itch again for a Joker. Maybe I'll pick one up as a Christmas present for myself.

Thank you. To be honest, I'd never really stopped and looked closely at the buggy until I was posting the picture (I had always concentrated on the people before.) I was amazed when I realized just how lightly built the buggy was and how thin the wood in the wheels was, yet those buggies could last for years under hard use on rough roads (or sometimes no roads). Those old wheelwrights and buggy makers really knew what they were doing!
