Headed out in the morning with my oldest daughter to go deer hunting. Had every intention to take the Hess Whitetail. About 3:00 I got the call from the nursing home that my 102 year old Grandad had passed. Being a lifelong hunter and knowing what he wanted to happen upon his death, we are going hunting. There will be a party later for him.
Now the only choice I had was to take his Western he gave me the year my oldest daughter was born. He packed it on Okinawa in WW II, used it on Moose, Caribou, Deer, Antelope, fish and who knows what else. Hoping he and it will bring us some good luck.

I’ve been debating about what to do with the Frontier stockman I picked up like he used to carry. I thought about sending it over to be buried with him, in case he needs one wherever he ends up, but decided I’m going to just use the hell out of it...I think he’d approve.

Thanks for the compliment Jack! It has indeed been a long tiring day, just getting from a day of mulch and fun things such as that! Lovely loaf of bread with your Lambsfoot today my friend!
Thank you, Jack.
It is the Month of the Wolf.![]()

Jack Black - Thank you kindly, Jack. Cool SFO. That wonderful looking loaf needs slicing, with lightly toasting, and something spread or melted on it. Your sweet looking Lamb could easily handle that.

Thank you Jack!!! It's always a quite a pleasure to see your wonderful Sheffield beauties; a true standard in cutlery!![]()
Stupendous pair of stag 83s, José!
That green Russlock is a chameleon, Jer! it seems to be different shades of green for different surroundings!I'll just go into denial. -some more- again
On a happier note, I'm getting better at rolling this open with my thumb.
...
I thought something was familiar about Sköll, and you've nailed it for me, John; he's definitely depicted in the style of Hidden Pictures!
I'd completely forgotten about Goofus and Gallant; as firstborn of 7 siblings, I felt a lot of pressure to emulate Gallant!I can see the wolf!
(Goofus and Gallant were my favorites, though.)
...
Autumn is coming!
...
Both you and the knife are Gallant Gents, Dean!A little red today.
...
Oooh, there's a couple of slender, curvaceous, and vivacious vintage beauties!Love those long, narrow blades.
So why don't I carry this Camillus 69?

Superb ancient knife, Harvey, in a sublime photo!
Cool color coordination, Tom!These two today.
...
Captivating shoe knife, and fantastic pic! This Star Brand Shoe promotional knife belonged to my grandfather, who passed away in 1916. I've never carried it before, but I just posted some information about the knife (and my grandfather) in the "Old Knives" thread and I'm carrying it today in his honor.

Thanks for the entertaining suggestions, David!5K Qs
After some thought I have narrowed down 3 knives for veganism. 1. A variation of the "Bunny Knife",because of eating only "rabbit food". Or 2. A melon tester, to test tasty melons of course. And 3. A rotten banana bone GEC. Because being stuck with only fruits and veggies would be rotten imo. (No offense meant to any of our vegans)![]()

I love the stag on this knife.
Thanks, John.
What a wood pair, JJ!For today my wooden Wednesday totes are both wearing ebony covers; a French Laguiole super slicer and an American traditional boys knife.
...
Eponymous ebony for Wooden Wednesday, Jack; exemplary!Morning folks, thought I'd go with black today![]()

Looks like my post opens and closes with exquisite little lockbacks from you, José!

Rachel, I live about 45 miles east of you...I believe that our first frost may not be until December this year!!! I agree wholeheartedly with your Central Texas definitions!
Ron
Reading Goofus and Gallant, I always felt there was a 'middle road' not depicted. Also, as the youngest with two older brothers, I found I could get away with a lot if I did my mischief quietly.I'd completely forgotten about Goofus and Gallant; as firstborn of 7 siblings, I felt a lot of pressure to emulate Gallant!
Autumn is certainly coming by me, and I hope it's eventually true for you, Rachel, although I'll miss seeing that Stock Yard Whittler.![]()
Sorry for your loss, but happy he was with you for so long.my 102 year old Grandad had passed.
I thought you might like that.he's definitely depicted in the style of Hidden Pictures!
Thanks, GT... Me too.glad you decided to start "dancing with the wolf"!
