What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Today along with my boker barlow, this one:
GEC 62 courthouse whittler in ebony wood

I reprofiled the two little blades to better cutting through the wood, they are really scary sharp now.

This is a nice knife to whittling although I had to round some corners like the tip of the spine on the coping and the spine edges on the main wharncliff because they caused really painfull hotspots while whittling.
sorry for the quality of the pics, in not at home and I don't have my reflex camera with me, the cell phone os hard to keep steady while shooting

I bet at this point I have posted enough shots of my favorite carry that even the above low res and quality shot is still enough to identify it :o

Thats the problem with getting so attached to one knife and also liking to post in the what traditional thread :D

I bet they are SHARP! I was looking at your photo before you mentioned that and all I could think was man you layed the edge down flat on that one.

Must whittle like a champ :)

> the nicest peanut I've seen

thanks for the kind words Stich. Im sure others here have similar beauties, but None of the others who own one, including Carl, whose stories made me buy it, have posted a photo, that I know of. Come on guys, lets see those damascus peanuts!

No where near as nice as the stag on yours Jon, but since you asked...

Yes Rich,
It's indeed flat, the diference it makes is huge, for detail carving where you shave tiny feathers and also the tired you get. You put much less effort in cutting so the tendons in the forearm suffer a lot less.
The downside is that the edge is much more fragile if you use it as an allround knife too.

Hey mate, I forgot you whittled too, sorry for the teachers tone ;),
I'd like to see that zero ground whittler anyway.
see you

Aww, no bud, I didn't take a tone. I was more trying to let you know I can relate.

Here are the three blades on my older whittler. They aren't pretty but man they can whittle up a storm :)

Romo (Rosenbaum and Mogul)?
c.1873 - 1879 ?
Ebony Swell Center Jack

Well I found this quote from BRL
"ROMO was a trademark of a New York City cutlery importer named Rosenbaum & Mogal, founded in 1917. Isaac Rosenbaum and Mitchell Mogal went their separate ways in 1924, and Mogal got the ROMO trademark (Rosenbaum then began to use IROSKEEN). The last time I checked (5 years ago) Mitchell Mogal Inc. was still active, still importing ROMO brand knives. This knife was imported in the 1950s or 1960s.

This info is on pages 73 and 66 of LG4."

So a more accurate date must be: 1917-1924 or later

Dos Equis for breakfast. Works for me! That's a joke man. ;)
Nice looking Boker, by the way.

I'll have my trusty Ohta WT in my pocket today.
