What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

That's defo Traditional! Those are fine knives with really good filework that he French excel in. Excellent fit&finish.

Is that Compagnon or Compact? I have an Ebony in the former and a Stag in the latter. The Compact is a quality knife for the pocket, Le Compagnon is a lot bigger but works excellently as a picnic food prep knife- all stainless construction, no brass.

Today it will be CASE SBJ in stainless for me, Bermuda Green pocket worn.

Regards to all, Will

Thanks Will, it's a Compact in juniper. I read a thread here quite awhile back about Chambriard's Le Thiers and it's been on my wish list ever since. I had some good luck lately and decided to splurge on a couple pieces, this is one. It arrived Friday and has been in my pocket since then. The FnF is top notch, the filework is beautiful, and even my wife likes it(!)
Since the reviews were overwhelmingly positive, I decided I'd give some French knives a try, now I have a Fontanile-Pataud XS Laguiole in curly birch on order too. Big change from GEC/Queen/Case/Boker, but what the heck!

Speaking of Boker, this one will be in my pocket today:

Zippo,

Thanks for the response. I'm sure you'll be over the moon about that Fontenille-Pataud. Best knife I own bar none. Interesting Böker you show there with Spey blade? My Böker Congress is the more conventional 2x Sheepfoot, Pen and Cope. Excellent fit and snap on mine but it's a pattern I don't much carry except in small form.

All the best, Will

Hey Guys,
Taking advantage of the spare time in the weekend, the little mechanic is almost done. A little more detail in some parts like the face and of course the hair and the beard which are a great improvement on their own.
Here with the tool that helped me carving it:

I decided to switch it up a bit. P's pic of her bone barlow moved me. I needed to pick a favorite of mine and put it in my pocket.

Mateo, I love the new little dude-- especially his overalls. :)

P,

The way you show off that bone I have a new appreciation for it. Very nice.

Thanks! It's fun to try to capture how great it is in real life.

Uh, "ugly duckling"? 'Cause why, exactly? I see no "ugly."

(Another) Nice picture.

Meanwhile, my barlow and I had some excitement this afternoon, a flat tire on the way home from my third of three college drop-off trips in as many days.

(Pictures taken after I was safely home, for which I am grateful-- 76 W outside of Philadelphia, with its narrow lanes, fast traffic, and debris-strewn shoulder is a scary place to have to [try to] pull over-- hence the extra damage to the tire, trying.)

Glad you made it home Okay P!

I'm just joking. Quite a few of the friends on here have voiced their overwhelming dislike for the design :-p

I carry it anyhow.

Hi Will and Biglmbass (can't wait to go fishing for some largemouth on Labor Day!),

Yes, it is the carver congress, I had to wait awhile for it to come in but it was worth it. I picked it out for a few reasons, the variety of carbon steel blades, the size is not too big or small, and it's my first rosewood handle. I've found that all my Boker's have terrific fit and finish and are so nice to use.

I am really looking forward to the Laguiole too, I did a lot of searching to try and narrow down which one to buy and decided on the Fontenille-Pataud based on user comments and ultimately size. I like 'em a little smaller and figured I wouldn't carry a 12cm knife as much as I would a 9cm.

European knife month for me after the new Boker Evergreen and Chambriard. I liked the Evergreen so much that I went looking for the single blade pen version and found another Tree Brand, same size but with two carbon blades for a little less so I snagged it. A little back to school gift :D

Well I'm carrying the same thing GEC 620311 courthouse whittler, the main blade is taking a nice patina.
The little guy is done, only wet him a little for cleaning the cuts and the oil.
The eyes are not great because is the first time I was brave enough to try :).

What IS that stuck in your tire?

(very nice blade by the way (<-- obligatory knife related comment;)))

I have no clue as to what its sitting on ?

It looks like a music box? But it seems there are way more teeth than needed, so I might be wrong.
And the knife is very nice as well.

Mateo, I always admire your little men.
My White Owl was busy as well today. It isn't my favorite to whittle because it lacks a straight blade, but it worked ok. I thought about modifying the pen blade into a coping blade, but that needs some more thinking.
