What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

A whole lotta goodness in that pic.

Filip.J Filip.J Thanks Filip, really like that knife. As for pears, one of my favourite fruits, the wood is very hard and good to burn on the stove once matured:thumbsup:

As you can see these two have been babied, oh I carry each from time to time but neither has seen any action other than a string cut or two.
Eventually I'll start putting them to work, maybe.

Talk about goodness ! Sweet pair...take me to the river :) That M&G makes my heart sing

:thumbsup::cool:
Many thanks Gary :) Four really nice knives there, I just remembered that I have that same RR Sowbelly, a gift from @Humppa long ago,...

Thanks again buddy :) A friend of mine knows John Le Carre. I just remembered I did actually read that book, but it was a very long time ago - I saw the film more recently ;) I'm kind of enjoying some of my fixed-blades. You know, a few decades back FBs were probably 90% of knife collecting. I used to have a lot more than I have now, as I have given a lot away, but I still have a fair few ;) When I was a kid, I was never without a sheath knife on my belt, but the law here now, it kind of stinks - not illegal to carry, but don't get caught with one o_O :thumbsdown:
...
I forgot about this small one I have, made by MAM in Portugal, I actually carry it a fair bit it in the summer. It comes with a wee bottle opener. The idea is you open your beer, and cut and eat your hot dog or wurst of choice ;) :thumbsup:

Apologies for my late posting, and minimal presence today, hurt my back this morning o_O Before that, all was going well, and I had just sorted out my carry for the day. ...
Thanks, Jack. I like the Rough Rider sowbellies, and I like RR smooth tobacco bone, so that knife was an obvious selection for me! ;)
When it comes to "6 degrees of separation" for me, Jack, you're a major link! :cool::cool:;) Suddenly, I have a connection to Le Carre!
I hope your recent addition of fixed blades to your carry hasn't thrown you out of alignment and resulted in your back pain! :( You had an attractive trio picked out! :cool::cool::thumbsup:
I often look at that little "picnic knife" when I look at MAM's offerings online. :)

Astounding jigging, Wayne!! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

...
Thank you so much, GT! I love that little Case Canoe you are sporting.
...
This 44 is with me today - I don't carry it enough, it really is a pretty perfect knife.
...
Thanks, Dylan. :)
The brass and wood really "work" on your GEC gunstock pattern! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

...
Thank you GT. Your Sowbelly is not only beautiful, but your image is Magnifico!

Thanks for the encouragement, Harvey, and for the "living end" link. :)

...
A couple Sowbellies and canoes makes for an outstanding foursome; very nice artwork to go with your lovely Case, too!:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:
...
Thanks, JJ. :) That "traditional" arithmetic book was a gift from a student in one of my classes for prospective teachers several years ago.

Thank you, Gary. For me it's also intriguing because I don't know its origin, as for the stag I love it too.:):thumbsup::thumbsup:
:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

I admire that knife, Gary.;):thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks for your kind comment, José. :)

Today in my pocket.

The covers on your Curel are outstanding! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

You're welcome, Dean; dazzling daily duo again! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

I’m no theologian, and I wouldn’t try to make a proof from that Numbers passage, but I’m with Calvin who says somewhere in the Institutes that any activity not specifically indexed to one of the Persons (e.g. Incarnation) is attributable to all of the Person together.
Thanks for your (and Calvin's) thoughts on the matter, Joshua! :thumbsup::)

Stunning knife, LT! :cool::thumbsup::cool:
Is that custom-built for you??

Went with these two today, rosewood & stag.View attachment 1323490
That stag pen knife is breathtaking! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Just finished this modification of a GEC 21 Bull Buster. I enjoyed doing it, and I think I prefer the 74ish handle shape and spear point. I definitely prefer the slimmer handles.
You've been modified into a modding maniac, Joshua! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup: I'd like to see an exhibit of all your mods in one place! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

I feel "prepared" for Friday with these 2 black composite covered Camillus scouts. :)

Shenanigans!!! :eek: What are you talking about Gary? :rolleyes: I did learn early on from one of the best! Bob, aka "BigBiscuit" was a master at the art of surprise! :D
If the shoe fits... :D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Good Friday morning! My trio is from the Dark Side today and is a mixed bag. ;) I've paired two of these before so forgive the recycled photo. First up is a Tidioute #79 Workhorse Whittler in Ebony. It's teaming up with my 2018 Ebony Guardians Lambsfoot, an SFO from @Jack Black. :thumbsup: I've also got my Vic Black Alox Pioneer close by. You can't never tell when my screws might get loose! :rolleyes: Y'all stay safe and well out there! :thumbsup: :D
...
Terrific trio for Black Friday, Ron!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks Gary. That one in particular I find to be just the right size. However it’s such a rare bird that I only carry it where I know there is no chance of misplacing it.
That's a dilemma, Alan. I used to treat my knives with sentimental value that way, but then decided the joy of carrying/using them would be greater than the sorrow of losing the knife, but still having the memory. Kind of a Que sera sera philosophy. :rolleyes:

...
Probably the best handles they have done.
Seems a shame they never ran it with a different blade.
I scratch my head sometimes when I see their design choices.
Rough Rider does stag bone much better now than they did 5 years ago. And they've used stag bone on quite a few patterns, but I don't know how many patterns use this top-flight stag bone that's on my little cotton sampler.

Just like our viral pestilence, this snow, too, shall pass. Some of my hardier garden plants are shrugging it off.

Hope you all stay safe, and if you can’t stay in, stay clean!:D
Really like that Robeson, Jeff; tough for me to pick my favorite between Harvey's shieldless 1-blade(?) barehead and your 2-blade, end-capped model with the cool shield! :cool::cool::thumbsup:
This has been a tough week for some lonely daffodils in my backyard. :eek:

SW 879 and a PAL Jack today

You sure have a way of finding the best bone, Steve! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

I’m loving it so far, GT. All of us here really should be getting commission for all the sales we’re making!
:thumbsup::D:thumbsup:

You could say that about any kind of berry. ;)

Pretty good haul today:

True fact about berries and birds, I guess. :rolleyes:
Maybe I should try mulberries in my oatmeal; anything tastes good in oatmeal! ;)

An antique stereoscope.:)

Thank you kindly, GT. Your peanut cotton sampler is the cat’s meow. You and I are both Senator fans.
Thanks for the background info, Harvey. :) And I appreciate your positive remarks about my knives. :cool::thumbsup: Our lambsfoot senators are fine knives, but I'd have to say mine is a state senator, and your damascus model with the sumptuous stag is fit for the national stage in DC! ;):thumbsup::thumbsup:

That is an eclectic ensemble of traditional knives, Gary! :thumbsup::thumbsup: Each one is top drawer. :D:)

Thanks, Dean. :) Your brace of bone-covered knives are spectacular! :cool::cool::thumbsup: (I still want to try "scratting" a wood-clad knife sometime - maybe this summer.)

Trying to keep up with this thread is exhausting, but exciting (except for the exhausting part). I toted some odd friends today - Mutt & Jeff. A Case Muskrat (1976) and a Case 33 pattern small premium pen (1970):

That's an E/O notch, not a crack.

Even though you can't crack the Case, Stuart, that pair makes you a winner! ;):cool::cool:

Thanks a lot Gary!!! That certainly sounds like a very fun project; I can't wait to see the finished piece with any design you choose!:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Beautiful covers on your trio today; the stag on your lamb is my favorite, but only by a ram's whisker!:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks, JJ. :) I might actually prefer the stag bone on my cotton sampler in that trio.
I have lots of projects planned, and virtually none (knife-related) in progress. :(:rolleyes:

A Barlow from Britain and a US Scout for today. :)
...
Superb pair, JJ; I really admire that C. Johnson Barlow! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Today with this Portuguese in stag made by Verissimo-Miranda do Douro.;):thumbsup:

That might be my favorite of your Portuguese knives, José! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

I need to watch Send Me No Flowers again.

Dwight, I've never tried to clean a knife with battery acid, but it does have a dramatic effect. A "Study in Blue"
Overkill? :D

Which civil war battlefield did you recover that from?
:D

Battery acid/Civil War relic.... it looks to me like it sat in a box somewhere, mice nested in the box, gnawed the bone for the minerals, and their urine caused the corrosion. That looks like the starter on a lawn tractor I had after mice nested under the hood. I hate mice.

So what are the details, Dwight? Any snap or walk ‘n talk left in it? Can you make it usable?

Patinus Maximus.:D

Edit: I really miss our huge local flea market. This poor old Barlow reminds me of the treasures to be had there.
Ain't it so Jeff. :) It's a M FURNESS & SONS I picked up off of the big auction site a year or so ago. Definitely served as a mouse buffet for a time. :D

We have already seen two of our local flea markets close since the shutdown. :(

Hello Dwight!
Long time no see. I hope all's well. I've missed your presence. Welcome back!
Hello Don! Good to hear from you my friend. :)

Dwight, looks like some critter was chewing on the handles at some point in it’s life
You are right for sure Jeff! :D

Yes, I agree that this is an odd totin' pair, but they are two that I don't tote much at all, so I wanted to air them out today (clear and cool here). They carried well on Loki's walks and when our new granddaughter made a surprise appearance the Russlock cut cords off packaging on a new swing seat Miss Norma bought (a bit too early for baby use, yet). They do share similar blade profiles, sorta.

This site must have COVID-19; it's slower than my grandma and she's dead.

Potent pair, JJ, especially the Barlow.

Some awfully cool stag your totin with those fine Case knives today!;):cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I remember that now Stuart! :) The stag on the Big Jack is still bodacious! :thumbsup: :D

Even though you can't crack the Case, Stuart, that pair makes you a winner! ;):cool::cool:

Thanks, guys.

Mighty high fallutin', Ron, Please remember us little people now and then.

A pair of small knives in Mammoth Ivory today.

I wonder if the mammoths will come back after this is all over.
