What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

These two for me today. I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far.

Hiked into a mountain lake today with my daughter and friends. They’re spending the night but I did a turn around. A little more than 10 miles round trip, and my feet are feeling it tonight!! Took a couple of knives in my pack but the Camillus made Remington got the front row seat in my pocket.

Beautiful hike, nice backdrop for the knife. :)

Le Langres, par Stephane Thomachot.

Great folder for kitchen use, isn’t it?

I have never lacked at being able to put an edge on a knife, maybe struggled with a knife or two but have had a high rate of success over my lifetime sharpening knives. That said, 2012 GEC knives just seem to achieve a level or sharpness over other GEC knives that I own. PLEASE don't get me wrong, all my GEC knives get very sharp but there's something about 2012. Quicker, easier, sharper, geometry??? all of these seem to be a noticeable trend from 2012.

Duncan and I have had this conversation many times and seem to land on a certain year or in many cases certain knives having these traits over others. Now being as old as Duncan is, it's understandable any confusion on his part:eek::D:D:D, that could have some direct influence over me as well;) I certainly understand, BATCHES and heat treat etc... But all of my 2012's qualify for this phenomenon. Or, it's all in my head:p

2012 CC HJ6 in Tomato Acrylic...a heck of a sharp knife, both edge and looks:)

Paul, you got me wondering if I even had a GEC knife from 2012 (I bought my first GEC in 2015, and knew I had a handful from 2013 and 2014, but couldn’t think of a ‘12 off the the top of my head). I had to check my spreadsheet, turns out I have just one: the Ebony spearpoint PPP TC Barlow I won in Duncan’s giveaway a while back. I’ve sharpened it once, and used it some since. I don’t remember noticing anything out of the ordinary sharpening-wise, I’ll have to pay more attention next time. ;) :D

My hinkelhatz peppers are starting to ripen and my Forge de Laguiole is always ready to help with the harvest. I've been carrying this knife - sometimes alone, sometimes with a smaller knife - for the past couple weeks now. I had previously thought that it was a bit big for regular carry, but that is quickly changing.

Cool photo, and a good looking Laguiole.

I'm running late today and I've got some catching up to do! ;) I've been carrying my new #23L Beaver Tail today. This one has the smoothest action of any of my new #23's! I won in Barrett's btb01 btb01 GAW. :D

Looking good, Ron! Enjoy! :D

I’ve been trying to think of what to carry next after almost a full month with my Woodland Micarta #23. I did switch it up a bit yesterday, but I think I’m going to take a cue from Vince and drop my own Stephane Thomachot (a generous gift from @Âchillepattada) in my pocket for a while.

Minor ... o.k. ... major change ...
Swapped out the (BTI) Old Timer 858OT stockman for a (BTI) Old Timer 280OT Barlow for a couple days.
The (BTI) Old Timer 23OT Scout/Camp knife and 25OT two blade slipjoint folding hunter remain.
I'm going to try and make it a couple or few days without a stockman in my pocket ...
(A recommendation: Don't bet anything valuable or precious that I'll succeed.)

EDIT: (original crummy picture removed ... or made to a thumbnail somehow ...)
I was right. :(
Rough Rider RR1419 Stoneworx stockman found its way into my pocket.
So, these are what I'm carrying.

I just can't seem to make it without a stockman ...
(The stoneworx covers have real Black Lip Pearl, (reconstituted) Red Jasper and Turquoise, and real Mother of Pearl.)

Ah life is good. Got about 15 lbs of huge chicken breasts and a full veggie basket smoking, big old slab of salmon waiting to go on when Mrs Grave Fleshwund gets home.
Playing a little slide on my old J45. And when I say old, I mean it. It’s a ‘55, which makes it one year older than me.:)
Such a sweet old guitar.
The little peanut sized 12OT Jack is the working knife hero of the day ~ it cut the stem ends off of three gallon ziplock bags of beans and didn’t break a sweat.

View attachment 1404666 View attachment 1404667 The squirrel planted shagbark hickory seedling is going to get transplanted to a more suitable location than this where it can hopefully enjoy a long life.
I won’t bore you with the details, but there’s a simple biological reason that tree rats plant oaks, walnuts, and hickories in your lawn, vegetable garden, flower bed, and even flower pots...
