> How is the fit and finish on the replacement knife?
It is nice overall. But Im picky and not happy. The scales are burned by the buffing wheel, not to my taste. They are also of the FAT center profile, not my preference, but only slightly more than the knife I sent in for repair. But I REALLY liked the scales on the knife I did not get back. I do not like the scales on this knife as much.
On this knife, although the main blade is close to centered, the pen blade sits very close to the pile side liner, though there is a slight bit of light between them. I will try to post a photo, not sure its going to show well..
I like the damascus pattern on the new knife's blades very much, better than the one I sent for repair. I do not like that the half stop on the main blade of the replacement knife I received, is wobbly, like the one I sent in for repair.
Overall, its OK. The main blade spring is stiffer than the one I sent in. Give the send in a 1, and the replacement I received a 3, slightly soft. My edc peanut has about a 5 on the mainspring stiffness.. 10 being highest. Neither the knife I sent in, nor the replacement I got back, gives me a sense of confidence in terms of the mainspring hold open tension, but the replacement is slightly better.
Im most concerned that Case did not tell me they had replaced my knife, instead they told me the scales would look different because of the disassembly. That was either intentionally misleading me, or the service tech misleading my contact person, either way, Im not in love with Case warranty service today.. They did not do what they promised, and did not warn me my knife would not be coming home.
On a more positive note, I have a friend who wants to buy the knife, and he is most interested in the damascus pattern. Less concerned about the scale features than I am. So this knife is actually an improvement over the one that did not come back. And I can let it go in better conscience, knowing the mainspring is slightly stiffer than the one I sent in.
