What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

This came in yesterday, Just gotta give it a little ride...

This is a great looking knife! One of my first GECs, but it is a bit thick for my liking and I've been actually brooding about having it turned into a single blade. Just worried the bone will get cracked in the process. Needs a lot of skill I assume.

Today a CASE Yellow Pen decided to accompany me, nice and slim this one!

Thanks, Will

Thanx Will,
Skill and perhaps a bit of luck on that...
If it was a single blade it would be nice and slim, and perhaps a tad lighter, for me, today I haven't even noticed it in my pocket, but I wear jeans everyday. I have a feeling that this one will be right up there in my rotation, especially being that it is in 440C .

Yes, that stainless of theirs is really decent gear. I even like the squirrel/acorn etches on the blades and I'm not usually keen on etches.

I was just playing around. I don't know if you have heard of this...here is a link to the origin of the game of French origin. "The decision of the Flower":

Yes, I know it, of course. I was just joking, too ;) Maybe I should have added some smileys. This term is also well known here in Germany. Sorry about destroying your joke.

You did not hurt a thing, Andi.

Thanks for your reply, my friend!

What is the name of the pattern of your paracord lanyard? I would like to make one. Very cool

Hello Gevonovich,

It's called a helix pattern, though I didn't make it. One of my Scouts gave me lanyards this past summer as a thank you (cool gift!) and that one is my favorite.

Cheers,
Griff

pathetic service from Case
I recently sent a damascus peanut in for service, due to a loose mainspring and uncentered blades. Case sent the knife back without replacing the mainspring, so I sent it back. They told me they were going to completely disassemble the knife, and replace the mainspring, instead they sent me a completely different replacement knife. Im unimpressed.

Here, on the left, is the knife I sent in for service.

Here on the left, is the knife Case sent me back, claiming they had replaced the mainspring.. Not accurate.

How is the fit and finish on the replacement knife?

It is nice overall. But Im picky and not happy. The scales are burned by the buffing wheel, not to my taste. They are also of the FAT center profile, not my preference, but only slightly more than the knife I sent in for repair. But I REALLY liked the scales on the knife I did not get back. I do not like the scales on this knife as much.

On this knife, although the main blade is close to centered, the pen blade sits very close to the pile side liner, though there is a slight bit of light between them. I will try to post a photo, not sure its going to show well..

I like the damascus pattern on the new knife's blades very much, better than the one I sent for repair. I do not like that the half stop on the main blade of the replacement knife I received, is wobbly, like the one I sent in for repair.

Overall, its OK. The main blade spring is stiffer than the one I sent in. Give the send in a 1, and the replacement I received a 3, slightly soft. My edc peanut has about a 5 on the mainspring stiffness.. 10 being highest. Neither the knife I sent in, nor the replacement I got back, gives me a sense of confidence in terms of the mainspring hold open tension, but the replacement is slightly better.

Im most concerned that Case did not tell me they had replaced my knife, instead they told me the scales would look different because of the disassembly. That was either intentionally misleading me, or the service tech misleading my contact person, either way, Im not in love with Case warranty service today.. They did not do what they promised, and did not warn me my knife would not be coming home.

On a more positive note, I have a friend who wants to buy the knife, and he is most interested in the damascus pattern. Less concerned about the scale features than I am. So this knife is actually an improvement over the one that did not come back. And I can let it go in better conscience, knowing the mainspring is slightly stiffer than the one I sent in.

Vandal, thank you so much. It always means a lot getting praise from this group. I've been a little down and away from the forums. My 85 in pocket. Doctors today for infected tonsils and throat, possibly a tumor. Hurray.

Sorry to hear that. Hope everything turns out fine. I hope you get well soon.
