That GEC camp knife was definitely "larger than life."Great story, Gary, thanks. I’m trying to do better about using sentimental knives, but I try to find seconds or equivalents too. Pretty bummed I missed that big GEC camp knife.
Thanks for the info, Les.
Terrific trio, José; my personal favorite is the top one.
Well-matched set, ED!...
Case Sod Buster and Case Sod Buster Jr. - both CV and both with Stonewashed blades.

Thanks, JJ.Many thanks to you, Gary!!!
Quite a hefty Euro-beauty; the grain pattern is wonderful on your beefy slicer!![]()
That the fine stag Case is a Christmas gift from your wife is certainly "value-added"!I think you’re right about the the chestnut sowbelly. I’ve looked around quite a bit and found nothing but old pages and “out of stock” messages. The fact that yours was a gift from Ron puts it over the top! Thanks for the kind words about my Case, it was a gift from my wife this past Christmas, which puts it over the top for me!
Have a good one.
Todd
So many differences between those two knives, but I like 'em both (the Imperial probably a little more
Sounds like a good project, Jack; I look forward to seeing the finished staff! Thanks a lot for the kind words Gary, it's rare these days that I get a chance to use my knives as much as I have today, and they both performed well. I was having a walk in some local woods yesterday, and there's an 'urban farm' there, where a couple of neighbours of mine work. They've been cutting down a bunch of saplings, and having obtained prior permission, I took one to turn into a staff. I took the bark off, and thinned it down some, and smoothed out all the knots. If I get time tomorrow I'll start sanding it
...
My girlfriend brought me the Marttinni back from Finland, but that is an inexpensive model, and good value I think
...
That's one of my most frequent BF utterances, John!...

High-scoring scout!
Thanks for the info, Dan....
Hi GT, I used a very silly little app on my Iphone called " Ghost in photos" which let you add ghost, aliens and bigfoot to your pics
I used the free version which I promptly deleted after. I can't believe they wanted a monthly subscription for itto remove water marks, high resolution bla bla
There are other apps for the iphone but they all want your money.
Photoshop would probably be ideal for what you are thinking but I don't know anything about ... except that is expensive.
Thanks for the info on a remarkable knife.Thank you! The Douk Douk Macina was a special order in 1950.
So cool to see these Douk-Douks that are totally new to me!1930s Douk-Douk 'Le Lion' for Sunday

That is one of my favorites among your Barlows, Dean, with that small script on the bolster!
It's cool that you actually know some of the history of the knife! It has indeed been around, athough I'm I'm not sure what its previous owners did to/with it. Its a 1998, I got it on that auction site in 2015(for about $12 as my records say).
Yup, I did it. well... mostly.
I'm getting awfully forgetful, had to go back and check to see exactly why I reground it. I remembered broken blade.
Assume it was a broken blade, then someone else made a kinda chisel ground tanto point on it. I had to make it a useful shape and tweak/tighten the frame.

Great knife, Frank; I'm glad it's serving you well!Been experimenting with using a farmer for my weekend knife. Came in handy last weekend working in the back yard. Have to see how it works just around the house. I do enjoy the thicker, pointier main blade compared to the regular SAKs. I can say that the reamer works well for making holes in leather, as I was fussing with a piece of leather for a project today.

That second photo (that I didn't edit out) is EXACTLY what I had in mind!!Sooo..... I got curious how hard it'd be to find a simple app to do it.
...
I literally just Googled "transparent background overlay app" and this was in the top like 3 hits... there might be better options if you dig around, this was just fast and easy to me.
"PhotoLayers〜Superimpose, Background Eraser"
Its dead simple, add a photo, then add another and adjust the opacity of the top one. (Can adjust all other usual photo editing stuff too, contrast, sepia, etc)
It also has all the features to cut/crop around things in a pic then layer that over another image.

Not perfect, but I only played with it for 5 min. The tools are pretty easy to use though, I think I'll have a lot of fun with this!
I had to run them through my favorite pic tools app ( "PicTools" ) afterwards to get the file format I wanted and down the size, but it works fine with minimal adds.
...
Sounds like it would have been a good time, Jeff, if the sump pump had cooperated....
5K Qs ~ appreciate your kind comments, Gary!
Glad you got to visit your flea market, steamed up glasses notwithstanding. Our big local one was this weekend, and I’d fantasized about going but sump pump repairs put that to bed.
Knives there are either proudly priced, or junk, but I like to poke around for old USA made hand tools. Usually good deals to be had.
Actually, to be fair, in the last two years, I did find an old Camillus stockman for six bucks, and a Camillus carpenter’s whittler for 10.
...
Good for you finding a leather project. My last one involved a belt that somehow got shorter!
Thanks Gary!!!So many differences between those two knives, but I like 'em both (the Imperial probably a little more)!

IIRC, that Marttiini is called a Lynx Lumberjack, and might be the same model @WhittlinAway has.
Good luck with your first shot Jack. Great to hear so many of you all getting your shots! I’ve said it before, but it really does give you some piece of mind.![]()
