I have been interested in this modern take on a sodbuster. What are your initial thoughts for awarding it knife of the year? Thanks

Yup, a custom by @Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith that I got from Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley a while back. It's really neat, Stacy took actual watch gears and shaped them to the curve of the pen then set them in epoxy.

It is pretty nice Chip, he did a great job on that, here's some closeup shots I took of that pen when it was with me for a spell;

I think is a combination of factors, the main one being that I am very moved by unexpectedly being gifted this knife that I had wanted for a while to use for our upcoming camping and boating adventures this season.

My thoughts:

Well built and ready for work.
@Reaper AL tells me it has become his favorite knife for hard work and he uses it every day. This knife can take a beating and it won't let you down.

D2 steel

Size, a bit bigger than the Case junior sodbuster but a bit smaller than their regular one ... looks like the sweet spot for me for the outdoors. For regular EDC I do like smaller knives.

I really like the blade shape, the point a bit lower than on other Sodbusters.

It has a lanyard hole. I can attach one to it and clip it to my Victorinox belt clip for added safety.

No fear of the pivot getting loose after hard use as you can easily tighten it if needed.

Canvas Micarta looks amazing and is bulletproof too.

It's pinchable open, a big plus for me.

The pull is about a 5. While I like knives with super strong pulls the truth is that my wife and my daughters can not safely open them. This one is perfect for them ... and quite acceptable for me too :)

It came at the right time for me ;) :)

Edit: Oh, and it comes from Italy :thumbsup: . My Great Grand Father was Italian and I proudly carry his last name.

I see from your later posts that you are really liking that knife Dan . I really like mine too . I just had to grind off that sharp point at the end of the Upturn at the end of the covers and you are correct on the Lanyard too . Enjoy it my friend . It is a Heck Of a Knife .
