What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Decided I didn't have enough knives packed, so I threw this one in the bag on my way out the door. Aluminum framed, micarta handled, screw together construction, Buck 112. Sharp cheddar and cup of coffee for a snack as I unwind in the motel in Kentucky:

That moment you realize you own $300 pocket jewellery but would rather carry this $15 steal. Really have to get it in hand to feel the lightness, balance, jigging, and VG10 toothy sharpness.

Nothing big going on this evening. These smalls will do.
Buck 55 whose handle I modified last night, for (dark) color and texture
And an 83 smooth Camel, so nondescript I almost forgot I even had it ... almost
EDIT: To add a Case Pocket Worn Small Lockback. Because when you go small, you might need a bunch, ya know.

So, I’ve used many versions of trackers/WSK knives, and they all too often are too heavy, thickly ground, poorly balanced... this is 3/16ths tapered tang, differentially heat treated, and very well ground—the front optimized for chopping and splitting akin to a tomahawk, and the part that is closer to the handle is for carving and finer work. The hook/quarter round makes excellent curls for bird’s nests, and can “unzip” flesh if you hold it at the spine. Despite being optimized for chopping and splitting up front, I’ve cut and peeled melons with that part of the blade without issue. Between this and a trapper or my SAK field master, I have nearly all woods tasks covered.

I think it looks pretty cool to :D
Definitely.
And similar to what SAS Wiseman says about sharpening a parang.

Nice recover. I suspect it looked something like this?View attachment 1539263All these Crown Liftin Beer Scouts are just copycats.:D
Thank you. I don’t remember the company, but it was an advertising knife with the tip bolsters, just like that one. Yep, apparently the crown lifter jacks have been around for a while.

I carried this one today. My parents gave it to me when I was in college. I carried it every day for years. I haven’t carried it much lately but I did today.

Going out to the shed to do some spring cleaning. Bringing some heavy artillery just in case.

I’m in Texas this week visiting my in-laws for Easter holiday. Just brought these two: a perfect old traditional and a perfect modern traditional.

Not sure I could choose between those two either, bone on both are so sexy!
