This is the first wedge whittler that I have been able to inspect. Now I can see why these are considered to demonstrate the highest level of a cutler’s skill. They have the same type of quality craftsmanship that you see in a Swiss watch, and GEC did an excellent job with this one.
These are really big boy knives. Didn’t Marcus Aurelius carry a whittler @Aias ?
Thanks!I've had bad luck with gray dogwood and don't bother with it anymore, just won't stay straight for me. Red osier a bit better but still prone to warping.
I use a lot of Arrowwood Viburnum and have good luck with it. Season for about 6 months, remove bark, size to preferred diameter, then heat and straighten a few times until it stays that way.
My other favored shaft material is bamboo garden stake from the big box store. Hard to find straight ones but can also be straightened by wiping down with vegetable oil and gently heating and hand straightening. Super strong and durable, not sure Ive ever broken one shooting.

A fantastic themed picture.
Beautiful Albers.
Thank you, Jack.
I've been shooting for years. I used to hunt but gave it up when I had to mix with rifle hunters.
I've introduced both of my boys to the sport as well and they enjoy our shooting sessions very much.

My brain’s sieve is clogged up with so much sand, that I can’t see the rocks.Thinking back now John, I'm sure you've said before. My memory is like a sieve these days (if that's not an insult to sieves)!Thank you my friend, those two look great together
