Picked this one up today. Family spent Christmas in Gatlinberg, TN and I stopped by Smokey Mtn Knifeworks this morning. Been eying it online for a while. It's more of a gentleman's scout knife. 3 1/4" with decent fit and finish.

I think I am going to give an older knife a serious second chance
i found her (and she bit me, so you know it was love at first sight) and brought her home
my excitement blinded me to some flaws, some gaps in the liners, the blades werent centered
i tried to fix her up myself and only made things worse.

well, i have been gently trying to undo the damage i had done and i think i have her back in at least the condition she was in when i brought her home.
upon reflection, her flaws are cosmetic but i dont see anything that will effect her use as working knife. off centered blades does not mean she wont cut straight, they dont rub against the liners and there is very little blade wobble. And she still sharpens up quite nicely if i do say so myself.
gaps in the liners are just that, gaps. They are actually fairly hard to notice unless your looking for them.

i think there is a lesson here, but its just about time for bed, perhaps after sleeping on it, i will absorb the lesson.
besides, there isnt anything that quite fits the hand (well mine) like this particular handle shape...

(This oh-so-shiny knife is a tricksy to photograph, especially indoors; if I make the image bigger, you can see All the dust. ;))

The Imperial Barlow I shot at the Bay was with me today :) It´s a fine working knife - after I brought her back to life again... ;)

This 1978 Case Appaloosa peanut, which was my Christmas gift, arrived in today's mail. As soon as I give it a little rub down with mineral oil it will be in my pocket for the rest of the day.
