What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

So, as a cotton farmer, does your cotton sampler get used for its intended purpose?
If I have read up correctly on the Cotton Samplers history, then it was used by buyers to test cotton bales. If that is the case then no it doesn't get used for that, I just like the history behind the blade.

Now days, gin technology has made the blade's purpose kind've pointless but it's still cool.

It's another laid back day at home - rain and snow flurries. We're having beef short ribs with all the fixins tonight. I haven't got my jeans on yet this morning but will be carrying one of these two today or who knows - both of them. A single blade Case Sowbelly and a Case Sod Buster Jr. - both CV with stonewashed blades. Hope everyone has a good Sunday. I know I will - peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich for lunch. It's gonna be a feast all day.

More old quotes for me, but they're all less than a week old, so I'm making progress, I guess.

Got my Rosewood Hartshead Barlow with me today, and a Random Tuesday Pruner by Richartz :)

Good to see the rosewood HHB getting a turn, and that's a whale of a tang stamp on your pruner, Jack!:thumbsup:;)

...
Clip and Pen Jacks are among my favorites for sure.
Especially the Case Medium Jack. It's almost as small as the Peanut, certainly doesn't take up much more room in the pocket. But I find the blade size on the Medium to be so much more useful and the handle just long enough to be comfortable. It's my go-to knife when I'm looking for something small and people friendly. You should definitely get one. ;)
Enjoyed your size comparisons/comments, John.:thumbsup: Reminds me of this photo of an Imperial serpentine jack and a Case Peanut. The Imperial's closed length is only a quarter inch more than the Peanut (3 1/8" compared to 2 7/8") but it looks MUCH larger.

Happy Tuesday Everybody.
Carrying the Ironwood Lamb and a Case Mini Trapper for Trapper Tuesday.
Good wood for Timber Twins Tuesday, John!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Fairly new, Gary. JonMcD sent it to me last year. Twas a bit of a surprise. A pleasant surprise. I’ll paraphrase one of those old westerns where the cowboys are peering out into the dark...

Yeah, it sure is nice. Too nice.

I kind of hate to mess it up with sap!
Thanks for the background on your pruner, Jeff. :) I have a couple of knives that I'll carry when it's their turn, but I've never used them because they are "too nice".
(Pruning would turn into a much longer task, but I suppose you could wipe down the pruner after each cut to keep the sap mess minimized.)

Tidiute Tuesday. In honor of all you who are partaking of the availability of new Bullnoses.
I really like the looks of the red micarta, but this one’s not worn out yet.
Usually, that's my motto when it comes to cars, clothes, leftover food, tools, wives, furniture, etc. I'm still trying to figure out how I ended up with 200+ knives and counting! o_O

Ebony #14 and a Green Peanut to go with my new Ebony watch.
Congrats on the new watch, Shawn!:cool::thumbsup: Wood, eh? What will they think of next? What are the "green rays" on the watch face? Excellent pair of knives!

Couple of new ones today.

Carrying my new Case Trapper again today and another new Boker Stockman.

Congrats on the new acquisitions, Todd!:cool::thumbsup: Lots of Porch denizens going for that micarta single-blade trapper lately! Your Böker stockman pair is sehr elegant!

My two for Tuesday are a GEC Calf Roper and a BB Winchester toothpick. :)
Appealing pair, JJ!:cool::cool: That toothpick tickles my fancy!

Camillus 69 and a Trapper

Splendid pair, Steve; my vote goes to the svelte stockman from Camillus!:thumbsup::cool:

I've lost 3 Queens to this same affliction. Two pen knives in buffalo horn and one mini trapper in delrin. The pen knives popped while Queen was still around and they were replaced by Ryan Daniels, the trapper just popped a couple weeks ago. Since it was already a single blade, it met it's fate. I thought it was a fluke when it happened to the pens, but the trapper was made years after those and went without warning. Sounds like @r8shell 's cocobolos were made several years before those even.

I know that springs can break on any slipjoint but I've only experienced it on a Queen, so it's alarming to me that it's happened on three separate knives!! Queen made some of my favorite knives, and I didn't have the problems that others had with them towards the end. This problem with the backsprings gives me pause on investing too much more into them though.
Sorry to read about your outbreak of Queen broken springs; hard to believe that can just be bad luck!:mad:

We ordered the Moore Maker for my son, but the clip blade has a formidable pull to it, so the next chance we had we picked out the Case in person. The Moore Maker is in my pocket as I cut the grass. The Case is in his every day.
Lotta blades in that photo!:thumbsup::cool:

Thank you, Gary. I'm with you on that old jigged bone being great looking, would love to see that on some knives being made today.
:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

That Buck is a beauty!:cool::thumbsup:

Your big, fat Champion reminds me of @Buzzbait! I wonder how he’s doing...
Yeah, he had a lot of splendid old scout knives and then fell head-over-heels for his big SAKs!

You’re doing Sunday right, avoid the leg prisons as long as possible.

Spending some time in the backyard this morning with these two knives along. Sadly our massive silver maple is dying and will probably be taken down this year. :(
I'll sure miss the old girl and the shade she provides. On the plus side I won't miss the 6 million seed pods she releases that cover the lawn each spring. :)

Thank you, Jack. :)

Nice to see Lucy, she's looking lovely as ever.
Please tell her I said so, I want to stay on her good side.
I passed that on John, Lucy blushed a little ;) :)
Decided to carry two favorite GEC knives...
Nicely matched pair my friend :)
Thanks Jack! We were on the water yesterday, it wasn’t a big deal, talked to a service guy and he explained that the prop was loaded and I needed to just turn it a bit and it would come out of gear and it did! Hope to get some pictures today, had my hands full with a boat load of my son’s buddies all day yesterday!😂
Fantastic looking knife, the grain is mesmerizing!😎👍
Good news Todd, that sounds like a busy shift! :D Thank you kindly :)

He was certainly a rare, old school craftsman!

Thank you kindly, Jack!!!

A couple of real beauties for Sunday, the covers on both are very special!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Definitely JJ, many of the Sheffield cutlery factories never mechanised, because skilled labour was so cheap and plentiful - once  Thank you for the kind words my friend :)
