Do you get a lot of snakes in the garden? I suppose having dogs keeps them off?

We do get snakes Will but not too often. This is a Great Basin Rattlesnake I killed some years ago in our back yard. I usually try to get them up and toss them over the fence down the hill but on this day, my wife, grandchildren, and two dogs were in the back yard and I didn't want to mess with the snake while they were there. Blew his head off with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Very nice Dan. Is that a Grohmann?

Yes Ed, I just got it.
I am so happy ! :)

Its a # 2 Grohmann, Bird and Trout with a flat grind ( they are usually saber grind )

It actually feels a bit convex, like an opinel.

I am going to sharpen it later today and I am confident is going to make a great slicer

Allow me to show it off some more :D

That's interesting, Mountain Lion must be exciting to see- at a distance. Once saw a Brown Bear on a trail about 150 metres from me in Eastern Finland.

Mountain lion tracks are not exciting to see while backpacking, Will. Saw a lot in the snow around Reno / Lake Tahoe, and assumed they knew I was there too. Just kept aware of my surroundings since there were a few reported incidents. They are stalkers so you’ll possibly not even know they’re there, but in my case for fresh snow.

This guy, however interrupted my breakfast one morning. Just a black bear who tried to no avail to scare me off my pack. Once I realized he would‘t get any closer than 15 ft, I’m the person who thinks, I should get a picture of this (2x on iPhone). Was in the fall, not long before the pandemic began.

Knife content, I had a SAK Farmer and CRK Pro Soldier with me.

Paired these two wood covered cutters today; a French Le Thiers slicer and an Al Mar that I found after 25+ years (thought I'd lost it) I refer to as my "special activities" Barlow. :)
Al Mar makes great knives. I bought one a few years ago specifically as a gift for my bro-in-law. He’s a great guy and a knife guy, but always carries some high end tactical folder. I thought the Al Mar had enough of a modern flair while still being a porch worthy knife, and I could ease him into being a traditional guy.

Beautiful and capable pair, Steve!

Why did you use a 12 gauge?
Because I didn’t have a 13!
My new addition :)

I don’t drink, so it’s not Molson’s Golden.
I don’t drink milk from a bag, so it’s not milk.
I think the Canadian Belt Knife might be my favorite Canadian export!
I’m not sure there’s a fixed blade made with better ergonomics.
Congrats!

I agree Jeff, thanks! I'm glad I found this one after all these years, as it is mostly traditional, with a bit of Al's "edgy" flair. :)
I believe this was among his last designs, prior to his passing in 1992...

We have quite a coyote pack that hunts around here. When we start to see a lot of rabbits, we can expect to hear them howling nearby. Good reason to carry a sidearm when going out for a walk.
We are outside the normal range for big cats, but a couple of years ago, there were a bunch of reports, including photos of a cougar sneaking around in the Chicago suburbs. Biologists thought it was a young male that had been driven out to find his own range. Wonder what happened to him...

Ed, that photo you posted on your tractor showed some beautiful scenery! Wild looking.
I’ve spent a lot of time outdoors in pretty liony areas and I can’t remember ever seeing a mountain lion. I guess they survive on being stealthy.

In college I was doing a research project on a ranch next door to Michael Jackson’s Neverland ranch. He had a black panther that escaped and was seen on the ranch where I was working. They told us don’t work alone and don’t crouch down, which was pretty much what I was doing, clipping forage samples. Luckily I never saw it, because I can’t think of anything much scarier than running into a black panther in hills. For some knife content, this is the knife I carried every day back then:

that's another fine pairing :)
Thank you, Jack!
Carrying my Hartshead Barlow and a Nicholas Nichols Pocket Cleaver gifted to me by Reaper AL :)
The Pocket Cleaver seems like a handy little blade. 👍
Excellent pairing, my friend. 🤠
Thank you, John!🙂👍
Ironwood Lamb (Skol) and Case Medium Stockman for Wednesday
My school's having graduation tonight. Only supposed to be 95 degrees, and thanks to COVID we will be on the open black top... should be fun. 🤪
😳 At least it's the last day!👍
I’ll be carrying these two. The Jack again, no reason not to, and because I’m feeling a little fancy, a Boker Curley Burch. View attachment 1575266
Great pair, Todd, the covers on the Boker look great!
Another pair of work knives, today. Opi #8, and Schrade Walden 204S TL-29 pattern.
Carbon steel and wood :)

Nice pairing, Jeff.
A couple of ol' Sheffield made ones for me today. I like how the bone is quite similar on the two.
