What was the spyderco that got you hooked?

I bought my first Spyderco knife at a gun show in 1990. The Delica and Endura had just been introduced and they were unique to the knife world. They were considered ugly, with that strange shape and big hole in the blade, but they looked "interesting". I bought the Delica. And lost it within a couple of weeks. Left it on the bumper of my truck after opening bags of ice to fill the chest for a camping trip. About 6 months later, I went to another gun show and the same vendor was there still selling Spyderco knives. I bought a fully serrated Endura this time, along with a Sharpmaker. I thought the larger knife would be harder to lose. It was. I used that knife for years, sharpening it so much the serrations smoothed out. I still have it. I've bought a lot of knives since that first Endura, including a recent Gayle Bradley Folder, but the original knives got me hooked.

My first love was a SS POLICE, bought many years ago. About six months ago I became smitten with a Digital Camo/ black blade Para 2 but couldn't find one to save my life, until I joined BFs. Now I own the one I wanted, plus 4 other different Para 2s.

My Para 2; my newest EDC member.

The Delica really put Spyderco at the top of my list. I have a Grip and it was my first quality knife but when I got a Delica I could see that you are getting a lot more knife for your money with Spyderco. The Sage 1 is by far my favorite folder though. If BM put this knife out with the same options, it would run over $200.

I got a bunch of fully-serrated Spydercos around 1990-91 I think, 2 Enduras and 2 Delicas. I absolutely hated them. They were really aggressive and efficient cutters though, but just not for me. At the time, I had a couple of Balisongs, a Buck 110, a Kershaw 2420 (still have the Buck & Kershaw), and a few SAKs. I gave them to a couple of my buddies who were EMTs and they carried and used them like they deserved to be used. Fast forward to about 4 years ago, still kinda standoffish about Spydercos, I saw someone with a customized Ti Military whose work was done by So-Lo here on BF, and was intrigued. I pulled the trigger on an M4 Military, and instantly bonded with that knife. The framelock, the blade length, the ergonomics, I loved everything about it. I then got a Ti Military to have So-Lo do work on, but decided to swap the blades out and created my all-Ti M4 Military. I don't have as many Spydercos as I did a few years ago, but the Ti-M4 is still with me.

For me it was the Embassy. I purchased the Citadel first but found that the aggressive nature of the handle texture caused massive amounts of pocket wear. Add to that it's immense weight and I was eager to try something different. The Embassy is a perfect EDC (legality aside) as far as I'm concerned. S30V, lightweight(ish), very comfortable handle design, easy to deploy and put away with one hand, and I personally like the blade shape and find it not only easy to use but also to sharpen thanks to the constant curve.

I liked my first Embassy (all black, plain edge) so much that when I lost it (sob) I bought another (uncoated, plain edge) to replace it. The only other folder/auto I have loved as much was my Kershaw Breakout. Even thinner and lighter, lightning fast, and completely unnoticeable in your pocket.

This one got me hooked, my first non cheap knife. I bought it at Kittery Trading Post in Maine when I was stationed there in 1991-1992. I carried it for many years, even went scuba diving with it clipped on my shorts.

I need to pose a question, but it is not worth its own thread. So, not knowing where else to put it, I decided here might be best. I am interested in the Foliage Green Delica 4, (really I would prefer Foliage G-10, but I know that is a custom job these days) but everywhere I have looked the only edge available is the combo edge. I prefer a full plain edge. Does anyone know where I can get one....preferably new. If I can find one in plain edge, then it would most likely become my first since I gave away my Enduras.

Thanks.

The Wegner. Awesome knife, fit me like a glove. I loved that steel backspacer.

Tenacious started it all for me. I remember when I bought it I was thinking "This is so expensive for a knife, I don't understand why people would spend $100 or more on a knife." About a month later I was buying a sage.

The tenacious was my introduction into the spyderco world. Its just ballooned from there. I have no complaints about any of my spydies. Even the little man bug on my key chain has taken a beating, and held up nicely.

The Foliage Delica is only available with a combo edge. Only way around it would be to buy both a FFG Delica and the Foliage and swap blades.
