What Was Your First Benchmade..?

A benchmade benchmite... Still carry it daily, fits in the 5th pocket of my jeans and sufficient for most tasks I encounter daily. I work in a tech office setting.

A Mini Griptillian, got it a few days ago... I absolutely love this knife!

My first was a 940 followed by a Rift. Most recent was a custom mini grip from the BM site.

My first BM was a Benchmade 5500BK Mini Presidio Auto. Borrowed pic:

  3. 1 Doug Ritter black mini grip
  4. 1 black/black mini-grip 154CM
  5. 1 black/black minigrip CPM-M4
  6. 1 black/sand mini-grip 154CM
  7. 1 black/sand full sized grip 154CM
  8. 1 limited edition S30V griptilian now with red Wilkins grips
  9. 1 shot show limited edition griptilian
  10. 1 black/black mini Infidel

Short story

Hit me like a ton of bricks, this knife thing. Walked out of a gun shop w/ a BM new 2011 product catalog. I had remembered seeing a 615 years before and the only thing I remembered was that it was a Benchmade.

2011 Catalog in hand, visiting my Dad, explaining how Ive got this overwhelming passion for knives all of a sudden, and BM looks outstanding. I couldnt find the 615 in it, (had no idea model # at time, or the insight to ask) although I was drawn to the 890. Beautiful, elegant w/ an eastern flair designed by some dude named Stieger something. He grinned and said come w/ me. Opened his safe, pulled out a custom handmade Steigerwalt and Carson... and a half dozen BM's, in addition to the Ares that he carried every day for years. He was into it years before, but had gotten out it. Firearms taking most of his present time/money/enthusiasm. Laughed and been back and forth w/ the knife thing w/ him ever since. Brought me to one of "his guys" w/ a brick and mortar. Left w/ 890, 585-1 and a 950....long story...but true. Oh yea...he left w/ an 890 as well. His first new blade in years.

For me it was an Osborne 943
It is still one of my most pokey friendly knife and the ratio blade length/weight is outstanding

Wow I'm there first one on here to say my first and only benchmade is a 940-1 I've had it 2 days and can't stop opening and closing it my wife is getting mad at me cause its annoying her llol

My first was about 8 years ago as a groomsman's gift and I loved it but also seem to have miss placed it...:grumpy:

I can't remember what it was exactly, but I know it came in a red/plastic blister pack from an outdoors store my friend worked at at the time.

Edit: after looking more, I think it might of been a 10400 PIKA...

A few years ago I got my second and 3rd which were a 707 and a 551.

My first was the Walter Brend collab they did back in the mid-90's. Pretty beat up and the liner lock is dead, but it was a solid workhorse of a knife. I still have it floating around somewhere....

My first was a Griptillian, BK2 Tanto combo edge, in OD. I loved that knife, but lost it in a corn maze one Halloween. I got it when I was 14 or 15.

I think it was in the mid 90's or so I had a AFCK and around the same time I had another Mel Pardue BM. The model slips my mind but it's the one that looked like a dagger. Both had combo edges. The Pardue got lost but I sent the AFCK to my little brother who carried it to Korea and Iraq for a couple of tours. I wonder if he still has it.

My first BM was a 942s about 13 years ago. I carried and used it a lot. I loaned it to a coworker at one point and he broke the tip. I put it away for a bit them learned about LifeSharp. Sent it in and had it fixed. Then, needed money and knowing very little about the knife, I sold it for 50 bucks. Stupid me. This was about 6 years ago.

I found a pic in the email chain from when I sold the knife. I emailed the guy asking if he still had it. Never heard anything back. I'd probably overpay to own it again.

Early (circa 2001) AFCK. Got it from a co-worker (a lady in around her 50's, believe it or not) who turned me on to BM. No pics - didn't even have cell phones back then.
